Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

Higgins is not a ball winning mid, he is a receiver and so far a disappointment, would be below most on the list. It wasn't an overly strong draft, was priddis rookied in 2005, he made his debut in 2006, so he should have been. Priddis would be up around the top 5 if eligible. I also haven't read the OP which might disallow rookie selections?

Would be an interesting exercise if we added in the rookie and PSD for new players into it.

You'd get:

Porps
Priddis
McGlynn
Jack
Heath Hocking

More importantly, where is Jones.

Hard being a Dees supporter: One of our only 3 good players isn't rated top 10 :p

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

Surely Jones would get a gig ahead of Varcoe, especially in terms of production.
This was my one
1 Scott Pendlebury (5)
2 Mark Murphy (1)
3 Andrew Swallow (43)
4 Dale Thomas
5 Josh Kennedy (4)
6 Grant Birchall (14)
7 Patrick Ryder (7)
8 Nathan Jones(12)
9 Bernie Vince (32)
10 Shaun Higgins (11)
11 Shannon Hurn (13)
12 Travis Varcoe (15)
13 Richard Douglas (16
14 Samuel Gilbert (33)
15 Mitchell Clark (9)
16 Courtenay Dempsey (19)
17 Garrick Ibbotson (26)
18 Mathew Stokes (61)
19 Trent West (31)
20 Dylan Addison (27)

Jones in at 9

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

1. Pendlebury
2. Murphy
3. Swallow- Surprised at Pies fans rating him ahead of Thomas really is 50/50
4. Thomas- As above could easily be 3rd.
5. Kennedy
6. Nathan Jones- A little controversial but i love his attack on the ball and is continuing to show improvement, easily my favourite down at Melbourne.
7. Ryder
8. Hurn
9. Birchall
10. Vince

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

Lamaros tends to over-rate EFC players - But if things go right for the rest of Ryder's career - he could end up No 3 - Won't get near Pendlebury or Murphy.

To the point of being farcical.

But if things go right for the rest of Ryder's career - he could end up No 3 - Won't get near Pendlebury or Murphy.

The same rationale would apply to every single player drafted in 2005.

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

Looking back I still think it took mega balls to do what Collingwood did on the day with there first 2 picks. Overlooking Ellis who was touted to be number 1 pick had have Murphy committed to father son as well as over looking the 3 WA kpp boys in order to take the at the time less fancied Thomas and Pendelbury.

Pendelbury and Murphy are by far an away the stand outs from the draft, with hindsight as an Essendon supporter picking Ryder after those two had been drafted was as good as they could have got.

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

Ryder is not a good tall. He is an average ruckman and an average forward. The only thing that really makes him special is his versatility. Swallow is more than a good small. He is pushing elite.
An average ruck? He is in the best few tap rucks in the league and is the most versatile and best around goals...
