With 2007 coming to a close and the all drafts now over, can we say this is the best recruiting done by any club in one year in history?
Dick Pratt
Greg Swann
Stephen Icke
Chris Judd
Richard Hadley
Matthew Kreuzer
Dennis Armfield
Steven Browne
Darren Pfeiffer
what a list!!!
thoughts? any ppl i've forgotten?
You have to be kidding Hadley had 2 knee reco's, Armfield is a risk and Phfeifer done nothing at Adelaide. Don't get to cocky. Personally Carlton stuffed up in the recruiting of these players. With pick 52 they should of drafted Gourdis and pick 2 in the pre season Wonaeamirri. Not very happy of these recycled players

People forget how awesome the recruiting was in the mid 80s.
But this is a pretty good year.
No offence lou but you seem to be permanently on your rags.

No offence you have no idea about football. You're permanently a knob
So making a comment about your general attitude and negativity towards the Carlton Football Club translates into having a lack of football knowledge?![]()
And what did we get him for?? Next to nothing in a weak draft, and we need some experience and developed mids to help the kids out
What is risky about picking up a 21yo at #46 in above-said weak draft who is only 4 years young to the game, runs the 20m in 2.83sec, ferocious tackler, puts his head over the ball, fills an immediate need, and has a work rate as high as any in our side already?
Thanks to injuries and a personal falling out with the coach....was highly regarded as a junior, and it is Pfeiffer.
Gourdis, after all clubs overlooked him in 4-5 times in the ND and a lazy trainer on the track. Wona "bang it on the boot" eamirri. You'll eat your words when Joseph becomes the next Foley
. No offense but I'll back WH's 20 years of experience in the game over your thinly veiled attempt at trolling.
Worst post of the year![]()
Its not a negative attitude towards the Carlton football club, they just don't learn from past mistakes. Year upon year they recruit recycled players from other clubs. I could not believe they recruited Pfiefier and Hadley keep adding them to list of recycled players Ackalnd, Cloke McClaren, Saddington, Bannistar, Young. Look at the way the Geelong have been building their list and Hawthorn. I shake my head at some of bulls--- i read on this board. Best Recruiting ever, will still don't have a back line. Thats the problem with this board if you don't conform to the norm you get shoot down.
3 key members of Geelongs team are from other clubs. Their captain Tom Harley, Brad Ottens and Cameron Mooney. Matthew Egan was a mature age recruit not overly dissimilar to our drafting of Ross Young.

Ross Young = Matt Egan![]()
Not as a player but as a proven VFL performer older than a typical draftee. You were criticising the recruiting process itself which is what I am describing in this instance.
I ask you the same question name the players Geelong have recruited from other clubs apart from Ottens in the last 5 years.

Geelong had a massive draft in 2001 which set their team up with about 5 excellent quality players, since then they've drafted as well or as poorly as everyone else and last year they were handed the biggest father/son gift since Jon Brown by electing to take Hawkins with a third rounder -what a tough call that must have been. The Cats identified 01' as a strong draft and took a stack of players, just like Carlton did in 2006 by recruiting 6 youngsters, thus, 07' being a weak draft wasn't used to take a bunch of NQR kids who will sit on the list for 4 years before we cut them because - suprise suprise - they're stil NQR. I'm sure Adelaide list managers we stoked at having to draft as many kids as they did in a draft like that.
Unfortunately the CFC brainstrust must have stepped out for a milkshake in 2001 because we traded our first rounder and didn't draft all that deep. If you want to know why we have an unsettled backline and we have a ruck division that consists of Ackland and Cloke, look to the bananas who were running the club in those times, because the backline was addressed in 05 with Bower and 06 with Austin and the rucks are being built around Hammer and Kruze - but these guys take time to come on and play key roles, if you want instant action you have to draft mature, but I don't think you want that????
You can criticize us for taking guys like Armitage and Pfeiffer who are passed it at 20 and 21 but don't forget the Catters used their first rounder this year on a mature WAFL player. From a list management perspective, these guys weren't lured with big time contracts and they offer the club an advantage to see what they have to give without needing to wait for them to bulk up or get used to playing against men; a call on their futures can be made easily to allow for next year's stronger draft if they fail as you predict.

Whats your thoughts on Hadely now Lou... Premature assumptions on speculative picks can sometimes come back and bite you in the bum hey...
