2007 BigFooty Phantom Draft

I dont mind the idea for a bidding system. I would be shocked if anyone nominated a first round for Daniher. A second round nomination would mean we can take him with a third round choice as long as he nominates to come to Essendon. Seeing he is training at Essendon I think it is a lay down that he will be at the Dons for a third round pick. No steal but a solid selection and gives us a bit of certainty over who we would target early on.
Jaxson Barham is an interesting one. Would anyone bid for him? His stocks are rising. A team may well bid a 3rd round selection for him by the end of the year.

seems a bit unfair, like the kids gonna go train with sydney lol :p

He'll end up at Essendon. I can't see him wanting to leave Melbourne.
You also have to figure there are going to be big opportunities in the Essendon backline in the next year or so. Essendon are also a young team that are likely to be peaking when he is whilst Sydney are still in the decline phase.

I am not sold on Daniher though myself. I think he lacks closing speed and could really struggle at AFL level.

I dont reckon its Daniher's closing speed. I think Danihers agility is more of a concern. When he gets a head of steam up and running straight he is ok, he has difficulty with agile opponents. Only an opinion:thumbsu:

watson had the same problem (he was also fat and unfit...but still) and now look at him. essendon will develop him quite nicely i rekon. he could pull a teddy richards. leave essendon when he's playing crap and thrive and sydney

Looks like we going around again this year. :thumbsu: :D
Some quality coaches have gladly put their hands up to take part this year, so the discussion should hopefully be first class on the Class of 2007.
Give it a couple of weeks, and we will again have a trial version where we head down to pick 100 or so.. From there we will wait to the start of November and run the Official BigFooty Phantom Draft.

The main point of this exercise is to promote as much quality discussion on the Class of 2007, May the Party begin :D:D

Melbourne - Gilly1972
Carlton - HBF
Essendon - Foj1

I am going to be interested to see his 20m and agility times from camp. At the end of the day I think it he is always going to go in the third round to Essendon but I will be interested all the same.

This run of wins is making me have to seriously re-evaluate my likely picks. I will have to hope the guys I am interested in fall.

I will have to have a word with the guys. Don't they know they are supposed to be tanking at this time of year. ;)

My line of thinking has changed somewhat as well, but I seemed to have settled (for the time being) on my early selections. Looking forward to this years PD.

Good luck with the PD this year guys. I know I'm scratching my head after round 2 for real quality.

Was a real interesting exercise last year and I'm looking forward to seeing this years results.

Peoples, whats everyone reckon about kicking this trial run off in about a weeks time ???

If we do this then we will have to guess the order of the draft as the position havent been settled, but it gets 100 names down on a list as a teaser to the real deal in a few months. Im guessing coaches will be holding there picks very close to their chest just like last years trial run...... :p ;)

Happy to start a trial run but it is important to remember that all it will do is bring names to the table. You couldnt possibly do it properly until you see final draft positions, how your team trades, who your team delists and finals performances of potential draftees. In my case especially bottom agers who I think my represent better value.

Realistically thats all the trial run will be. Getting 100 or so names down on paper, because im sure everyone will be keeping there cards close to their chest :p

Life be pretty chaotic the last week or so for me, hopefully get this trial run going around Monday next week.

Sounds good to me.

yeh you can put 100 names down now which would be good but i guarentee you there will b at least 20 changes as the school footy boys come back to their TAC Cup teams this round and are sure to make their pressence felt. it would be interesting to see, maybe not in a particular order but if all the players that someone puts down all gets picked up.

i think in future years maybe, their should be more than just a draft and have a mock end-of-season list evaluation too. get together like a team of 3 or 4 and make delistings, draft picks, rookie elevations, etc. it would add a lot more to the PD i rekon. bit of a change lol :p

I know that for the PD this year I will be considering St.Kilda's delistings/likely delistings (depending on EXACTLY when we do the draft) and what needs they will need. Even if I get the player wrong it will also be an interesting exercise how they structure their draft in comparison to how I did.

With the mock draft starting soon I won't really be considering list structure too much though.

Happy to start in a weeks time, although the order of the picks might be a bit of a challenge, considering the final order is nowhere near final. You could do it as it stands when we kick it off, although i'm not sure what you want to do with the PP's. We'll leave that up to you Hodgey. It's your call.

What is everyones thoughts on Justin Beugelaar for the Northern Territory?
