Happy and unhappy today.

Same , I reckon they had Dalziell pencilled in for pick 56. and Brisbane have jumped us again. :thumbsd:

Rapt to get Palmer & Mayne - don't know anything about Hinkley.

Johnson is a surprise , but We had doubts about Solly this time last year and they have been well and truly shot down.

Just looking at the PSD and Rookie draft. Unless i missed something in the draft.
Sampi
Collard
Dunn
Mourish
are all still available.
If we want them we shouldn't have an issue getting Mourish and atleast one of Collard and Dunn. Most likely a shot to get them both.

Solly was 27, Johnson is 30. :thumbsd:

Oh give me a break.....

We pass on our last pick, yet we've picked up Johnson at 55, and Bradley at 69...

Freo deserves every bit of carp levelled at us for poor drafting and trading after this. :(

Happy we got Palmer... know very little about the next two..... I am fine with Kepler as he has time on his side - he may yet do something.....

BUT if we have to have Johnson, then I would have picked:

55. Some other young bloke
69. Kepler
74. Johnson

IP, I may be wrong, but we would have to still have a free spot on the senior list with passing on our last pick? They must have someone in mind for that in the PSD - any ideas?

Johnson is a little surprising, but I remember feeling less than enthused when Harvs brought Solly over last year and look how that turned out. If Harvey has faith that Johnson can improve our performance, then I'm happy to back him.

Johnsons abit disappointing but some would have said Solomon was too last year. At 55 arguably all a lottery but a youngun' would ave been been nice.

Collard and Dunn abit disappointing, might have been a show this late.

Ruck ?? Hopefully a rookie target.

i assume we will be taking an etablished player in the PSD who didnt nominate for the ND. Is there a list of PSD nominees?

Ok Ok - all negative comments aside - I'm interested.... what exactly can Johnson bring to us... we have him now, so lets just build a bridge and trust the new regime - we still drafted mid fielders so all is not lost.

I'm listening to cannibal corpse as I read this thread - very fitting....

Watch them slide straight into our 22 :thumbsd:

Our centre line will probably be Carr, Mcmanus and Johnson :thumbsd:

Very pleased with Palmer though, would have preferred Masten but can't complain.

I think you've pretty much answered the question of why Johnson got picked instead of a youngun - it is a lottery and when you look at the 3 that were dropped off the list this year (Collard, Mourish & Dunn), it would be pointless to just take some skinny kid who may never make it to replace them. With Johnson, Harvey knows what he is getting - someone who can make a meaningful contribution to the team now.

There are 4 or 5 rookie spots available - that is where we should be taking a punt on young guys who may or may not have what it takes. It's the best way to manage a list. If we are looking at ruckmen (which surely we must) the rookie list is the best place for them - most are not capable of playing AFL until they've had 3-4 years on a list - why waste a spot on someone who can't contribute?
