Don't throw your ticket out. Normally a $3 mystery is a half box trifecta, meaning it doesn't matter what order they finish. If that is the case, you've just scored the Melbourne Cup trifecta.

i'll throw cold water on his/her hopes
looking at my WA TAB cerise $3 mystery - it's exact order for the trifecta

Great race that a true staying test and a very worthy winner.

Just a few quick observations

Efficient - Breaks the Phar Lap curse.
Definetely a different horse with lighter weights, had a nice barrier got back, relaxed and stayed the trip beautifully hitting the line well from a long way back.

Zipping - No luck with the draw which cost him many lengths and had to start his run at the 800, 4 wide, a top effort. Top run as good as any just misses the place. He probably wins if it's a small field.

Master O - Another that got back early which spelt trouble being behind Zipping, had to be very good to win from there and really struggled to find anything down the straight.

Purple Moon - Improved and ran to the hype for a great second, Olly gave him a perfect ride, just beaten.

On a Jeune - Nice run from a long way back, 6th at big odds.

Dolphin Jo - Ran the race of his life and fought hard to the line.

Mahler - Ran from the front used that advantage and good barrier to just hold onto third, good effort from the 4yo

The rest were outclassed, but a very worthy winner in Efficient and the track played well.

Efficient wins 2007 Melbourne Cup.

Efficient has won the Melbourne Cup.

The Cup was run with a field of 21 after three scratchings earlier in the day.

Master O'Reilly had been the favourite to win the race along with Purple Mon and Zipping.

Ridden by Michael Rodd, the horse started at 15-1 and pipped the English stayer Purple Moon, ridden by two-time Melbourne Cup winning jockey Damien Oliver, in the last 100 metres.

Efficient was last year's Victoria Derby winner.

"I've won the Melbourne Cup - I can't believe it," Rodd said immediately after the race.

"All credit goes to Lloyd Williams and Graeme Rogerson and their great stable here in Melbourne."

The victory is a third Melbourne Cup win for prominent businessman Lloyd Williams.

Williams had previously won the Cup with Just A Dash in 1981 and What A Nuisance in 1985.

Williams had his favourite horse Gallic scratched from the Cup this morning.

Gallic was one of three runners knocked out of the race in the final few hours.

The Fuzz and the well fancied Maybe Better were both found to be injured in the lead-up to post time.

Efficient won the Victoria Derby at the Melbourne Cup carnival last year but was only ninth to El Segundo in the Cox Plate at his last start.

Williams also had Zipping in the race, who ran fourth for the second year in a row.

Williams watched the race from home and did not have a bet on the race.

"Age has caught up with me - I'm just happy to win," he said

I feel sorry for the horse that was put down on the track. I hope the punters there remember the horses through this and how many of them have to be put down

Bay Story got a mention in this thread and was an outside chance to qualify for the race... sad end, RIP.

Yeh, it says clearly you have to get the 3 in order.

The $6 mystery bet is the one where you can get them in any order (in WA at least).
