2007 Offical Membership figures...

Really impressed with the fact that Carlton is the second paid-supported Victorian club, after Collingwood. Even more alarming is Carllton have the third most (second in Victoria) child members. This is going to be the foundation for a very strong supporter base in future.

Good point KnockOut.
Well done to everyone at Carlton for buying a membership this year. Lets have a repeat performance next year. :thumbsu:

If Subiaco was bigger, maybe WC and Freo would get lower membership numbers because you wouldn't need a membership to get a ticket to a game.

Look at Collingwood, bigger crowds in a bigger stadium, but smaller membership.
Very fair comment.

But its offset by the fact that the WA State Govt is a bunch of shortsighted gits who will end up building a stadium thats STILL not big enough to suit demand, and everyone will still need an Eagles or Docker's membership to guarantee a seat.

8th...Not bad for a relocated team ;)

Awesome that Richmond have >30K members given they've only got 1 victory for the year. Fantastic effort Tigers fans, respect! :thumbsu:

Abysmal effort from Brisbane though. Greatest team of the modern era yet members have well and truly jumped off the bandwagon. Pitiful!
My guess is that a lot of them were sold before the season started since a lot of Tiger fans were already on the finals bandwagon.

yeah, i was thinking about that

by the time they get the stadium built it will already be too small!

Unlike a lot of the Cats bandwagoners who jumped on once they were sure they would play finals.;)

Stats dont lie.

Time to relocate the Lions to a state that will embrace the footy culture. Inner Melbourne suburbs are doing well, perhaps we could shift them out to Fitzroy say?

Amazing. Sydney are a one team town coming off consecutive Grand Final appearances, and still have a large supporter base in Melbourne.

The Western Bulldogs are one of the most maligned clubs in the comp and are continually mentioned as a possible relocation candidate, haven't played in a Grand Final since 1961, and are seen by many as a financial basket case.

Yet the Swans have only 69 more members.

Interesting to note too that the Bulldogs' figure doesn't include about another 5000 members who are not eligible for finals tickets. These include the 3 game memberships given to Victoria Uni students, as mentioned by some of the North posters.

Jealousy is a curse. Why cant you be happy that a struggling club for most of its history is getting up off its knees and breathing some fresh air into the place.

Perhaps if you hadn't lead with the entirely obnoxious "I'm glad we aren't in North Melbourne's position" there may have been room for a little more good will.

Funny competition, this one.

The Bulldogs, Roos and Dees are always the ones in the gun, yet clubs with similar membership numbers are safe as houses.

And so many people busting a gut to set up teams next door to the Lions and Swans.

Surely from a pure business standpoint, if you were to own a licence, the best place to set up your franchise would be in a proven location where the locals are cashed up, with a thriving economy, and there is an under supply of the product. Perth.

The Swans figures are misleading because the Swans released a different figure which the club states is our alltime record for membership

The Sydney Swans are delighted to announce a new record membership for the Club with 32,452 signing on for the 2007 season. On top of the record for “Full-Season” memberships the Swans also sold a further 8634 ‘3-match Super Passes’, which take in the three Telstra Stadium blockbusters during the season.

Swans Chief Executive Myles Baron-Hay said; “Obviously the overall membership numbers are tremendous with more than 22,000 members in Sydney and nearly 10,000 members in Melbourne. “Adding the 3-match pass numbers to the bottom line we have more than 41,000 supporters financially committed to the Club for 2007.

St.kilda do really well for memberships. We had a really poor start to the season, and we have only won one flag, so to be getting those numbers is alright.

The saints website says 30,950

Hawkk what's the link for this?? I assume it's the AFL website, did a search but didn't find it.

I put the info on and a link to the AFL members component of each clubs membership at this thread started by Ricardo.

It's a good sign we have a lot of kid members,

Yep highest in the AFL, with Richmond and Carlton not far behind. Means we have a loyal bunch of kiddies coming through and/or our supporters rut like rabbits.

Either way it's good for the future of the club.

Conversely west coast have the highest amount of concession members in the AFL. And as anyone who's been to an eagles game can confirm, they aren't student concessions. Still, at least they've got a ready made waiting list for when they fall off the perch.

It's a good sign we have a lot of kid members, and explains why sometimes some seats are empty.

Did Pratt buy up on some Carlton membership or what?

A lot of people here seriously under-estimate the strength of the Blues supporter base. We heard the call to arms and joined up.

With Pagan gone, I think we will crack the 38,000 mark next year, especially if we can string a few wins at the start of the year.

Return of the true Victorian "powerhouse" clubs :p

From what I understand the AFL can alter the numbers (ie. ticketed/non ticketed) before they are offically released to the public.

A few years ago, the Hawks reported a 37,000+ membership on the club site but it was downgraded to 33,000 after AFL watered down the number so to speak.

Or the RSPCA again stopped you counting dogs

A return to what?

Collingwood and Essendon's memberships have gone backwards while those ahead of them have waiting lists.

Carlton's is a minor increase on the back of Pratt & a wizard cup win. Just another 'false dawn'.

When you get to near 40k levels the extra members are very profitable so from that perspective they are important. What it really means though is debatable. I have no doubt WCE, Freo and Adelaide membership numbers are boosted by the fact you need to be a member to get into most games. The fact they sell so many reserved seats is another great financial windfall for them.

Port Adelaide suffer for being Port. The plus is they started with an advantage over a cold startup with some club culture and a ready made membership base. The minus is they are forever limited by history to be the small cousin of the virtual state representative. Unless another club from SA comes in and can water down Adelaide, Port will always be the poor cousin. I am sure they take their lot ahead of the Freo example but Freo are at least well placed going forward to be a long term power club. They just have to learn how to be a successful club first. They really should try and rape and pillage WCE administration and get rid of failures like Schwab.

A poster called for a bigger Subi. The numbers certainly back that up and no doubt attendances would rise. If it was an MCG style stadium though I have no doubt membership numbers would drop away as people were able to get in almost every week or at lease pre book the odd big match like the Derbies.

There is still doubt that WA has a great team/population ratio for a footy state and it is currently backed up by a killer economy and truck loads of money sloshing around.

The Sydney/Brisbane figures show why the AFL pursued targeted success, why Sydney won’t lose their salary cap advantage and why Brisbane will get theirs back if they fall down the ladder for a couple of years. They also make it less likely of a relocation or new entrant into those markets. North supporters should be happy with the Northern numbers although not so much with their own. To me it shows a clear strategy direction for them. Clearly tell the world that GC is a cash take and not a membership drive. The prospective gains for them in that market are minimal and threatening at that.

I did notice West Coast have the most concession members, are they now the club of choice of the unemployed
Most drug dealers don’t pay taxes.
And Essendon have more than Collingwood too, with less total members, some of the old stereotypes seem to be changing.
Yeh but I reckon 5,000 nuff nuffs will drop of the Bombers now their leader has been flicked.
