Funny competition, this one.

The Bulldogs, Roos and Dees are always the ones in the gun, yet clubs with similar membership numbers are safe as houses.

i guess it's all about potential for growth against demonstrated difficulty in ever being financially independent. being one-horse towns, sydney and brisbane generate a lot of non-membership exposure and goodwill that attracts strong corporate support.

Jealousy is a curse. Why cant you be happy that a struggling club for most of its history is getting up off its knees and breathing some fresh air into the place. Still al ong way to go before we are there but its a good start.

And thankfully stupidity is not contagious. You'd hate to be in North Melbournes position? Hahaha, I'd rather be 2nd on the ladder with some great first year players coming through as opposed to continually falling below expectations for not being anywhere near as good as cracked up to be.

Handing out freebies to the local Somalian and Asian communities might be a good idea to get the numbers looking respectable, but don't think for a minute it'll last. Particularly given you're overrated on field and about to face a mass of retirements. Newbies to the game won't follow bottom teams.

Unless there has been a recent change, the unemployed cannot get concession memberships. It's basically students.

With Sheedy gone, it would be great to see the Bombers return to being a mid - range club. They were never one of the 'big' clubs pre-Sheedy.

I'm pretty sure pensioners get concession discounts as well as students.

If Subiaco was bigger, maybe WC and Freo would get lower membership numbers because you wouldn't need a membership to get a ticket to a game.

Look at Collingwood, bigger crowds in a bigger stadium, but smaller membership.

this is true , but for people like myself and a couple of mates who like to go and watch footy (no matter who's playing) it makes it near impossible.

sorry mate but you have lost it....put it this way, the kangas have played at there best for most of the yr, the dogs on the other hand have hardly strung 1 half of footy together yet we are still in the finals picture

As for the "freebies" there 3game membership worth bout 40-$50 and im at the dogs games each week and i dont see many somalian or asians there.....so i dont know where u pulled that from buddy!!! but if they or anyone wants to become a doggie member, good on em i say

and newbies to the game in queensland wont follow the kangas my freind!!! once you relocate into rugby territory

Also i'd say those 'freebies' wouldn't even be counted in the official figures, i think there is a certain amount of $$ or other criteria that needs to be met to be a counted 'member'.

Btw- most of those concession members for Geelong (2nd highest in the AFL) would be seniors, there is seems a huge amount of elderly people that follow Geelong.
