Agree with Rioli 1 or 2 comments, 4x Flags, 2x AAs, NSM... if I had to choose a player I'd take Danger, but Cyril more decorated at this stage.

Also agree Harry Taylor above Cotchin and Rance, for similar reasons.

Cyrils 4 flags should have no impact on who you choose

Cyril 1 or 2
Dangerfield 1 or 2.
Take your pick. Winner with either of them.
After that gets tougher.
Harry Taylor, Jack Steven, Walker, Rance or Ward from 3 to 7 depending on what the club needed for pick next.
Then Cotchin, Hanley, Hooker or Mumford to fight over last few spots in top 10.
After that to round out first round picks would be Easton Wood, Kruezer, Stefan Martin, Westhoff, Henderson, Mayne or Nathan Grima.

re do the first round now we have seen them play and with clubs needs that we know

1. Carlton - Cyril Rioli - have to take him as he is the best from the draft and will be a great midfielder and forward for the blues

2. Richmond - Patrick Dangerfield - need quality mids and would take someone who is durable and hard to try and change their culture. cotchin too injured and they are worried about long term

3. West Coast - Trent Cotchin - know he will take time but happy to spend time down ladder and know he wull op well in their culture

4. Melbourne - Matthew Kruezer - need a ruckman and another forward so is perfect fit

5. Western bulldogs - - Jarraod Grant - still think he will be a solution to forward problems soon

6. Essendon - Tate Pears - key player for their future to take over from fletch

7. Fremantle - Rhys Palmer - need everything but stay with Palmer because they love him

8. Brisbane - Cale Morton - he is soft but he is a good mid for them to go with black and power

9. St Kilda - Callan Ward - they have most covered but he is just the type of footballer they love. they wish they got rioli

10. Adelaide - Jack Grimes - classy footballer who will follow craigs orders and execute game plan perfect

11. Sydney - David Myers - they love classy running backs and will think they can get the most out of him

12. Hawthorn - Scott Thompson - get a good full back that they need

13. West Coast - Lachlan henderson - add another tall that can develop with Kennedy

14. Melbourne - Chris masten - add a good classy midfielder to a very bare bunch

15. North melbourne - Brad Ebert - add the best midfielder available to a weak area

16. Port Adelaide - Patrick Vezpremi - get some chardness into their team and some classiness

17. Geelong - stay with harry Taylor to back up their defence

How much does this prove judging players 2 years into their careers is ****ing stupid

Nope. no. never. no way.

Integral part in a 4 time Premiership Team not relevant?

Cameron Mooney was a valuable part in 2 flags and played in 3
Doesn't mean you can use it when talking about Lockett
If you think Cyrils the best then so be it but any of those top 10 would be 4 time premiership players if they were drafted to the Hawks

1. Dangerfield
2. Rance
3. Cotchin
4. Steven
5. Ward
6. Taylor
7. Rioli
8. Hooker
9. Walker
10. Thompson
11. Wood
12. Henderson
13. Ebert
14. Mcevoy
15. Masten

Top 10 KPF hold more value in my opinion that any other position on the ground, most teams would kill are trade their grandmother to get a good one as your team depends on it then KPB second most

1. Danger
2 Taylor
3. Rance
4. Walker
5 Cotchin
6 Rioli
7 Steven
8 ward
9 wood
10 Kruezer

I believe beating Hawthorn in the 2007 semi cost us Rioli, as we wanted him and it gave Hawthorn pick 12 instead of us. The rest, as they say, is history.

That said, we took Tarrant and four shoulder recos later he's close to the best key back in the comp. A shame he is now 27 and not 22.

Still has a lot of footy left in him is fairly durable now, so yeah Rioli would have been great but i think we chose well all things considered.

Tarrant has had a great year and would be pushing towards the top 10 now.

What a draft for defenders!!

Rance, Hooker, Tarrant, Taylor, Henderson, Thompson, Wood.

This would be my order;

1) Dangerfield
2) Rance
3) Taylor
4) Rioli
5) Ward
6) Walker
7) Hooker
8) Steven
9) Wood
10) Cotchin
11) Tarrant
12) Ebert
13) Thompson
14) Henderson
15) Masten

Excluding the rookie draft? Mumford and Pearce Hanley have claims to top 15 easy imo.

How Different would things be in the football world now. If Hawthorn beat the Roos in that semi final.

wow Hooker is underrated

I'd have him ahead of Cotchin and Walker and probably have him sitting around the pick 5 mark. Big men of his caliber (AA) are hard to find and generally go much higher in the draft

Walker is probably being overrated, been pretty average this year.
I actually think he has gone backwards.

It's pretty sad how much past form gets overlooked in these comparisons. Wood didn't string together a quality season until about 2014/15 yet somehow he's jumped ahead of Cotchin who's been a gun mid since 2011 (and is the the true Brownlow medalist of 2012). If you redo this draft there isn't a single club that would take Easton Wood ahead of Cotchin based on what we've seen over their 9 seasons.

In fact I'd have Cotchin ahead of Rance if we're talking career output so far. Rance is good enough to possibly bridge the gap over the final ~5 years of their careers, but there is no way Wood gets there.

Tex has put together 2 quality seasons. In fact 2015 is the only season of his career that can be argued was better than Cotchin's. Walker's form this year also doesn't fill you with much promise that he can make up too much ground.

Tarrant is another. He was a failed forward until the end of 2014. He didn't cement his spot until his 8th season. Unless he plays well into his 30s he's gonna retire with only 5-6 top quality seasons at best. I'm not sure how players that only had half a career could rank so highly.

I can understand recent form overshadowing past form when we're looking at drafts from 3-5 years ago, but surely their entire body of work has to come into play for drafts 8-10 years ago?

Agree - Look like a young Jackovic.
