Re: 2007 Season Schedule announced.

Barely. I wouldn't worry as much. The percentage is lower than I thought. :o Considering that NE & JETS made the play-offs. Doesn't it thrill you that to beat your division rivals, that's a leg up for wildcard hope...can't beat your division rivals, then your team is not worthy of play-offs. Simply really.

Long time since Bills made it to the play-offs.

Its only been a lazy 7 years since playoffs. We do seem to beat NYJ and MIA on a regualr basis (thumped them both last year). Just seemed to get belted by NE every time since that Week 1 31-0 shutout a few years back.

You must admit Woodson, tough home games against BAL, CIN and DEN and hard road games against PHI and JAX (didn't count PIT :p ). If we were in the NFC we would have been a playoff team last year. If we were in the NFC East, Sportscenter would worship us on a daily basis.

Re: 2007 Season Schedule announced.

The Bills are one team that baffle me. I don't watch them often, but when I do they look like they've had talent and at times look like worldbeaters. Then they kill me in the tipping (although I've learnt). Other crappy teams like Oakland and Detroit, watch them for a 1/4 and you can see why their crap, but the Bills I don't get it.

What's the deal neddy? Bad coaching, inconsistent players, missing key players like Spikes for extended periods . . . or is just bad luck you've been up against some pretty good teams consistently?

Jeff, the Bills always seem to be in a state of transition. Ever since Butler and AJ Smith's departure a few years back, the Bills personnel decisions have been made by GMs with polar opposite philosophies. Donohue brought in his "types" of players and now Marv Levy is in he has drafted and brought in his type of players. Donohue was always willing to take a risk on a talent (see McGahee - bad attitude, never used a dinger, to an extent Mike Williams - lazy!), while Marv is more of a character GM (much like the teams he coached). These constant changes creates a state of flux for the organisation, just a merry-go-round of personnel. So once again the team is in another 3 year plan, where Marv is building the team from the O/D Lines out.

I think what really doomed the Bills was the hire of Gregg Williams. We interviewed Marv Lewis but gave the job to Williams. In hindsight its easy to judge but apparently Williams interviewed better than Lewis. Both were defensive gurus, so it must have been a close call. Mularky was another bad hire by Donohue. I was skeptical about D1ck Jauron at first but he is strating to grow on me and is the type of coach that fits the demographic of Buffalo - hard-working, passionate.

Personnel wise their offensive line has been horrid ever since Howard Ballard, Will Wolford, Kent Hull and John Fina called it a day. My philosophy is a great offensive line is they key to a good football team. All the great teams have had solid lines. I think that is why Marv lashed out big time on Dockery and L. Walker, not to mention the extension to Jason Peters, who, mark my words, will be an All-Pro. No homering, he was stiff to miss a Pro Bowl spot this past season.

Drafting has been pretty good. Trading a 1sts for Rob Johnson and Drew Bledsoe, obviously hurt. All of our draft picks last year (8) made the roster, while 6 were starters by the year's end. We also seem to be never able to re-sign our good draft picks. Antoine Winfield and Nate Clements were both great picks in the 20s of the 1st round, both gave great service but we couldn't get a second contract out of them.

So what I am trying to say is pretty much, the continual state of transition the team has affected the on-field results, while some additions (Spikes - getting injured, McGahee - lack of contraception) have given false hope to all Bills fans and football followers.

Playing New England twice a year ain't fun and the AFC East has traditionally been pretty strong. Playing in the NFC West would have been nice.

I must say, the moves made by Marv this year have me more excited than ever to be a Bills fan. This draft will be huge for the future of the organisation. Maybe if we are lucky Adrian Peterson will slip to 12. If not, I say draft Patrick Willis. Then either take a RB in the 2nd round or strike a deal with SD for Michael Turner (2nd and 3rd) and take a CB in the 3rd round.

Sorry to ramble on, just love talking about my team.... :D

Re: 2007 Season Schedule announced.

No need to be sorry neddy . . . thanks for the detailed response.

One of the things I love about the NFL is that with 32 teams it's hard to follow what's happening with all teams. While I follow the Saints & the NFC South closely, I tend to fall in and out of 'love' with other teams for varying reasons. Keep talking and you'll probably spark my interest in the Bills this year. ;) Aaron Brooks and g.g. got me watching the Raiders this year <shudder> & Woodson's enthusiasm has certainly helped me keep an interest in the Steelers.

Anyhow, good to see you keeping the faith. Trust me, as a Saints fan I know all about false hope.

Whoa, hold your horses there big fellah. Oakland has had a small little rough transition period in the last 4 years ONLY. They've been consistenly a top 5 all-time NFL team for decades before that. 2007 being a phoenix year.

It's like that ethics analogy that if a man commits a cowardly act, does it make him a coward or did he merely commit a cowardly act.

IE...the Raiders aren't a crap organization or team. A few poor years spanning 40 years therefore does not make them a crap team.

Umbrage, dude. Umbrage.

Re: 2007 Season Schedule announced.

Sorry g.g., I was talking about last season. I'm a Saints fan so I'm hardly going to trash another organisation as being crap. I really hadn't watched much of the Raiders in recent seasons but this season went out of my way to watch them (Brooks was the catalyst). I'm loving this NFL Game Pass where I can pick the teams I want to watch.

Anyhow, it was pretty clear watching the Raiders this year they were a crap team. Poorly coached IMO - especially the offensive play calling. The defense impressed me a lot, but much of that was raw talent. No matter how good the history of the franchise, they stunk this year and you didn't need to watch much to realise they stunk (especially that o-line). That's all I was getting at.

It's ok JD. I was being a bit non-serious. As far as I'm concerned, 2006 never happened. lol.

Re: 2007 Season Schedule announced.

The Chargers seem to have quite a hard schedule this year. But we also play some of the weaker teams from last year. e.g Texans and Lions. Overall im pretty happy with it. Im also very happy that we get to play the Patriots. Cant wait to see the bits get fired up in that game.

That's the beauty of these rivalries Neddy. Beating the division rivals is paramount. I still respect the Ravens although they haven't been a real force since thier supabah victory several years ago. Jax are our stumbling block team. Just can't put those punks away. Denver are very competitive, they self-destruct more than they should but in saying that, Big Ben gave the Steelers that embarrassing honour last season. :o

Of the Bills, that germ you have that is possibly holding you guys back is Tom Donahue... is just pure EVIL ! did the damage at Pitt... hate the bloke.

Losing to the Raiders... :o :o :o

Yeah its quite hard to keep tabs on all teams, especially from the other side of the world. Your rivalry with Vick<Footy and the drafting of Reggie Bush sparked my interest in the Saints last year.

You are right, gotta stay loyal and the law of averages will finally turn it around. :p

Question for all....does anyone buy Lindy's Pro Football? It comes out every July, costs about $20. I have bought it the last 13 years and highly recommed it as a yearly publication. One liners on every player in the NFL and detailed analysis of all draftees. GOLD! :thumbsu:

It took us a few years but we finally got rid of him!!! Still clearing out the stench. Lucky Marv has some powerful cleaner....

Yeah i get Lindy's each year. its a good read as well as PFW

Re: 2007 Season Schedule announced.

Are listed game times EST ? I'm trying to work out the season kick-off MNF 10.15pm time slot? (Wouldn't it be after midnight in NY when this game ends?)

Yes, it's a prime time double header they have only for the first week, as a result the second game has to be played in the west, ie San Francisco, and actually at night.

I recall that ABC once decided to bring MNF games forward to 8pm eastern, a game from say San Diego early on in the season started at 5pm, the sun was out throughout the whole game, hardly Monday Night Football.

There is an opening in Los Angeles for an NFL team. ;)

And don't forget to mention the Cheerleader section of Lindy's :thumbsu:

I prefer Street & Smith's lay-out..quality tidbit info along with informative lowdown team expectations without sounding too far fetched.

I tend to swap & change over the years with NFL previews mags... '05 season it was ATS, the season before Sporting news.... I even have Don Heinrich's big editions from late 80's/ early '90's... guy passed away soon after. :(

Re: 2007 Season Schedule announced.

There used to be heaps of preview books, now I can only find a couple (Lindys and Street & Smiths) and I only seem to find them once the season has started. Where does everyone get theirs from?

Also Football Digest seems to have gone from the shelves nowadays - I used to buy those religiously.

Right On Broken !! I recall flicking thru the monthly edition back then reading three pages at the newsagency, then just couldn't put it down...had to BUY BUY BUY... just got addicted to 'em.

I still have my ol' copies (30 odd) in the early 90's. Won't be able to forgive myself to throw 'em out. :o The stories from players & game classic recaps were a great buzz to read and appreciate. I didn't really give a rats that it was b/w aside the cover, it was bursting with such information that I doubt any other publication comes seriously close for packing a passionate punch.

Mizza would get a kick out 'em.

1-1 each year... just so people don't think we're the Bills bitches :p. Plus you don't have McGahee anymore... he was what won it for you ;)

I'm thinking 9 wins for the Jets this year. 8 if they don't improve, 10 if they improve like I hope they will :thumbsu:
