I would think no earlier than 3rd round. Roughead is about 200cm and a nice mover, but he's probably around the 5th best ruckman available after Naitanui, Vickery, McKernan and Trengove. Now, it might seem a bit rich calling Trengove (or even McKernan) a "ruckman" when he'd probably only pinch-hit there at AFL level, but the first five ruckmen taken last year were Kreuzer/McEvoy/Lobbe/Simpson/Thoolen (taken #47, ie. late third round), and you could raise the same query over a couple of those.
Because most clubs don't have more than 4 or 5 ruckmen on their list, there doesn't seem to be a lot of them taken in the early rounds. There may also be a perception that ruckmen are more of a gamble than players of other positions. Roughead would probably be very good value if you got him with a 3rd rounder, but I can't see him going much earlier, while he could certainly go later.
Is Roughead worth us pursuing him? My initial thought is "yes", but on the proviso that he's there at our 3rd rounder, and that we feel we can get ruck time into him in the VFL side. There's going to be one of Wood/Bryan playing there, along with Thoolen (if they do decide he's a ruckman, I can't see him as anything else) and Keeffe. Bit of a logjam, potentially.
Those could depends on how Thoolen is Growing because he could be too short
