It is getting to that time of the year when downgrading your cash cows and upgrading your mid ranged players is starting to come into play.
(This may be a No Passengers topic in the future)

I was just wondering personally about which players are classified as keepers. Every year some new faces appear in the list of so called "keepers".

My main questions are I guess with regards to the backs and forwards. This is where I see the most change and potential (Also so hard decisions to make)

I will briefly state why I think why the midfield is not a question. I personally feel whoever out of Bartel, Corey, Ablett, Cornes and even Swan that you don't already have, they are the people you upgrade to. (Please mention anyone obvious I may have missed)

Backline

My main question is with regards to who has stepped up and is now a keeper. It may be even a case of rating the top 20 backline players and if they don't fit into this group then they're classified as upgrades?
Specific questions are with regards to Symes and Kennelly for my team.

Forwards
Well what a year for some gun players potentially dropping off and others potentially rising. (Dropping - Brown, SJ, BJ come to mind. Rising - Franklin, Medhurst *shudder*, Stokes, Didak, Murphy, Porplyzia, Gian)

I'm just having problems with deciding who to upgrade to this year in my forward line and backline.

Backs should be:

Cornes
Bowden
McPhee
Drummond (hopefully)
Burgoyne
Shaw
Goddard (watch his form over the next 3-4 weeks)
Mcleod (keeps on churning)
Fisher
Milburn

smokies this year:
King
Symes (might be stretching it ;) )

Nah i'd say Symes is a keeper :thumbsu:

P.Burgoyne, S. Fisher, Milburn and Goddard are all low in price for their greatness. Ive got Symes, Barlow, Ellis, Johncock. I will be upgrading at least 3 of them. Will these players with greatness get back to their gd form

When Brown hits some form Bradshaw's points will dry up a little.

I agree with most of the players labelled as keepers in this thread.

My team and the required upgrades:

Bowden
Cornes
Shaw
Burgoyne
Ellis -----> upgrade
Kennelly
Thornton -----> upgrade (maybe)

Judd
Stevens
Johnstone
Cross
Palmer -----> upgrade
Masten -----> upgrade

Brown
Pavlich
Fevola
Burton
Reiwoldt
Hill -----> upgrade
Rioli -----> upgrade

Stevens or Johnstone may require an upgrade, I will know more about them after round 11.

I have 140k and this week I am thinking of Hill -----> S.Johnson.

Keeper, yes if you have him, but personally I wouldn't trade into him. 1 good year out of 6 hasn't put him in my good books.

He was ordinary pre-2007 - but he undertook a metamorphosis last year, is over his injury concerns and is playing in the highest scoring team in the comp. Mind you, I'd probably go Stokes if both were the same price, but at his price, SJ is a good option.

Backline

C. Cornes
Shaw
Johncock
Gilbee
Mattner --------> upgrade
Wonameirri ------> upgrade
Pfeiffer -------> upgrade

Midfield

K. Cornes
M. Murphy
C. Ling
G. Ablett
N. Stevens -------> possibly upgrade
R. Palmer -------> upgrade

Forwardline

M. Pavlich
N. Riewoldt
A. Didak
R. O'Keefe
J. Porplyzia -------> possibly upgrade
B. Burton -------> possibly upgrade
B. Deledio -------> possibly upgrade

This if from the thread http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=431817&page=1

Premiums
C. Cornes, J. Bowden, H. Shaw, K. Cornes, D. Cross, D. Cox, P. Chapman, M. Pavlich, J. Brown, L. Franklin

Keepers
G. Birchall (although I'd consider him a premium), M. Murphy, N. Stevens, T. Simmonds

Upgrades
B. Symes, X. Ellis, D. Pfeiffer, B. Houli, R. Palmer, J. Porplyzia, C. Rioli, J. Hill

I have 17 trades left so I should be able to upgrade all my "Upgrades." If possible I will also upgrade N. Stevens and T. Simmonds too.

My ideal team would be:

Back
C. Cornes, J. Bowden, H. Shaw, G. Birchall, B. Waters, P. Burgoyne, D. Milburn

Midfield
K. Cornes, D. Cross, M. Murphy, J. Corey, D. Swan, G. Ablett

Ruck
D. Cox, J. White

Forward
P. Chapman, M. Pavlich, J. Brown, L. Franklin, B. Johnson, N. Riewoldt, R. O'Keefe

Those in black are the players I already have. Those in red are certain keepers that I'll be upgrading to. Of course this could change with injuries and form, but this is the basic blueprint for my team. Obviously my ranking of players is slightly different to the OPs. From now on I'll be look for peaks (in my "Upgrade" players) and troughs (for those I'm tragetting) in order to build my "Dream Team." Hopefully I'll be able to make the team with the 17 trades I have left and *knock on wood* I don't get too many injuries.

I'd probably change the back line selections. Sam Fisher and Brendan Goddard would be in the mix. Also a bit of a change in the forward line Ryan O'Keefe (due to Barry Hall's suspension, O'Keefe will probably have to play closer to goals and will score less as a result) to Daniel Giansiracusa or someone.

As a minimum I'll be upgrading 6 players (with N. Stevens, T. Simmonds, B. Symes and J. Porplyzia as the iffy ones) and 10 as a maximum. With only 16 trades left I'll probably only be able to upgrade 6-8 though.

I think my main problems are still with the forwards and backs.
Current Situation.

Backline

Cornes, Shaw, Birchall, Kennelly, Symes, Bowden, Ellis, Pfeiffer

My backline I'm looking to upgrade Ellis as my first priority, the main question at the moment is who? I'm just not locked on a keeper, thinking P Burg as the best option (Esp Considering his price at the moment)

Forwards

Pavlich, Brown, Didak, Porplyzia, Burton, Hill, Rioli, Gamble, Tippet

This is where I want to spend the most work upgrading, looks like Hill and even Tippet are almost reaching their peaks. The only problem is there are no good cash cows coming through the ranks. Second of all, I have no idea who to upgrade to, thinking Reiwoldt or Chapman would be the most obvious options here. Then again with BJ coming down in price he is looking like the most obvious pickup here.

So the question is do I downgrade a Hill and do a sideways trade of say Burton -> BJ in the coming weeks.

Midfield
(Quick disclaimer - This is where I made the most mistakes)

Cross, Stanton, Hodge, Thompson, Stevens, Dyson, Palmer, Bird

The main problem here is the lack of a Geelong gun, no Ablett, Corey or Bartel, this is really killing my scores.

So I'm basically aiming for Corey or K. Cornes here, and potentially leaving the other players as is, so trying to turn Dyson into a Corey would be my perfect solution.

I guess my main problem is the form of last year's so called forward guns, BJ, Brown, SJ, (Pav to a certain extent) are being out performed by players like Didak, Medhurst, Franklin (No more YoYo?)....

I still have 17 trades to spend, so I have not blown to many trades at this early stage.

What is the better option? Steve Johnson or Riewoldt?
(Fixing FWDS and to some extent my backs: Gram)

18 trades left and losing ground in my league, so i should trade. Oh and Travis Cloke and Jason Gram have to go.

Current
Backs: Milburn, Birchall, Symes, Mattner, Ellis, Brett Jones, Gram (Pfeiffer, SD Thompson)
Fwds: Didak, Porplyzia, Deledio, Burton, Akermanis, Cyril Rioli, Travis Cloke (Hill, Tippett)

This week
OUT: Travis Cloke, Josh Hill
IN: Nick Riewoldt or Steve Johnson, Gamble/Other Cheap Rookie?

Next week
OUT: Akermanis (Is he injured?/Playing Sydney this week), Gram
IN: Pavlich, Waters

I've avoided the known premium fwds up until now.
Now its a choice of Riewoldt VS. Steve Johnson + $22,400 cash.

Thoughts?

Thanks

don't see why Johncock is a keeper and Porpz a possible upgrade. to me, they'd both probably score about the same.

i'd go with Riewoldt; SJ is the more riskier choice. Gram for Waters? smells a bit side ways, but bringing Pav in is a good move. not sure if Aker is injured, but wouldn't trade him out just because he's playing Sydney soon.

My team and required upgrades in BOLD

Cornes
Shaw
Birchall
Symes (one of the last to be upgraded, depends how i go on injurys)
Mattner
Ellis
Pfeiffer

Cross
Murphy
Johnstone
Stevens
Houli
Palmer

Riewoldt
Pav
Brown
Deledio (see symes)
Porplyzia (see symes)
Hill
Rioli

Hopefull i can upgrade 2 out of porps lids and symes. 300k in the bank and 18 trades left so i reckon just about all of them can be upgraded.

Is Johncock a keeper?
IMO no. ATM keep him until you have a certain team you dont want to trade anymore and you have a few trades and then trade him because he will probably be worth around 350,000 by around round 16.

Sorry if this doesnt make alot of sence but im on the phone to my grandma who doesnt stop talking:p
