Rules


The draft order will be the same as the up coming draft, father son selections also included

You have a maximum of 6 hours between selections (Personally I would prefer that reduced, maybe if we all agree we could change that to 4 hours?)

If you've taken longer than 6 hours, the person who selected before you or myself, has the right to make a selection for you. For example Essendon select Hurley at pick 5 and Carlton take longer than 6 hours to make selection 6, then Essendon have the right to make their next selection.

The countdown starts from the last selection. For the example above, if Essendon selected at 9am then Carlton have until 3pm or if Essendon selected at 7pm, Carlton have until 1pm the following day (6 hours of actual selection time)

AFTER you've made your selection, PM the next person and remind them it is their turn. If possible, the use of MSN/email may also help speed things along

We aim to finish this draft within 1 week, this means if we start on Monday we end on Monday. This might be wishful thinking, but it is my aim.

If you've taken longer than 6 hours to make a selection, I then gain the right to replace you with someone else (Unless you give a valid reason).

1 - Melbourne – Jack Watts

Could not have popped up at a better time for the Demons with the retirement of Neitz, Jack will fit into his boots very nicely. Has all the attributes you want in a Key forward. Tall, mobile, quick, accurate boot, great around the ground skills, excellent contested mark, footy smarts, evasive, match winner, leader. And the scary thing is, he is only 17 years of age and having recently dropped Basketball to focus on footy he will continue to improve and develop. Superstar in the making.

2 - West Coast – Daniel Rich

There will be a push for Nautanui, but Rich is a gun. West Coast already have Seaby, and if he can improve, then the Eagles would have a dangerous midfield with Rich, Kerr, Masten, Rosa, Hurn and more. Tough pick for mine between him and the Fijian.

3 - Fremantle – Nicholas Nautanui

NickNat is simply to good to go past. 200cm athletic freak who will at least be a very good tap ruckmen. His 2nd, 3rd and 4th efforts also a huge positive for such a big guy. Sit this guy infront of a TV with tapes of Dean Cox and Adam Goodes, along with AFL coaches guiding him.. His supposed "footy smarts" problem, shouldn't be one.

4. Port Adelaide - Jack Ziebell (Murray Bushrangers) - bottom-age 188 / 86 utlity

- AFL-AIS Graduate
- 2008 Vic Country U18 squad (Captain)
- 2008 Larke Medal runner-up
- 2008 AA U18 team (RR)
- 2008 TAC Cup Team of the year (CHF)
- Tough as nails, bulldozing type
- Excellent leadership skills
- Strong tackler
- Versatile w/ Hodge-like game breaking ability back, midfield or forward
- Excellent core strength – breaks and shrugs tackles
- Game pace and agility is better than testing pace (have seen him produce some good bursts), but still not a speedster
- Average agility
- Endurance is below average, but doesn’t struggle at the big grounds (see form at Subi)
- Kicks goals up forward
- Very good assist player
- Very strong overhead and a safe pair of hands
- Dual-sided w/ a thumping 60m kick and good accuracy too
- Very solid build and frame (manchild)

I went best available here and while many others came into consideration, ever since his ripper game at Subi against WA I've been sold on Jack. I think he could be a highly versatile Luke Hodge type at AFL that can play a stop-gap role in almost any position on the ground and dominate.

5- Essendon - Michael Hurley

Ideal fit for Essendon who are looking for a long term key defender to develop. Plays well in the big games and on the good players and at times has shown he can go forward and have the same influence. Has had a few injury troubles but should still end up a 150 game plus player.

Pick 6 - Carlton - Chris Yarran

With Ziebell going to Port Adelaide and the Bombers taking Hurley, this has left Carlton with a tough decision. They're looking to boost their forward line and the best option here is Yarran.

He has the ability to play either as a strong leading forward or a small crumbing forward. He is one of the most skillful people in the draft, he will do things that will just make you sit back and wonder how that was possible.

He also has the ability to go into the midfield, he has been doing this throughout his junior career. This gives him an added dimension. The main question marks are with regards to how lazy he is, I actually think this is an urban myth.
Very quick and agile with a great set of hands, can be a little relaxed when kicking on goal at times (Kicks some helicopters).

He will complement the forwards of Fev, Kruezer, Cloke, Betts and Fisher.

Pick 7 - Brisbane - Tom Swift

I think that Brisbane will go with a little surprise here, Swift is Voss's type of player that will also fill a big need for the Lions. Swift is a mid that can do everything, his recent knee injuries will be a worry but with the success of Selwood the risk doesn't seem that big.

Pick 8 - Richmond - Hamish Hartlett

I've gone best availiable even with Vickery still there because I believe that in the first 10 it should always be that way. Hartlett will be a very good midfield prospect because he has a good mix of pace and ball getting ability while also being a goal threat.

9. North Melbourne - Sam Blease (Eastern Ranges) - bottom-age 184/70 mid/winger

- Vic Metro U18 squad
- AFL-AIS graduate
- Explosive - searingly quick line-breaker, big vertical leap and excellent agility
- Endurance affected by lack of pre-season in 2008
- Superb hands below the knees and can pick the ball up at pace without breaking stride
- Defensive work-rate and 2nd efforts awesome, big impact stuff, an excellent 'run down' tackler
- Very good short kick of the footy, but distance needs to improve (50m). Good accuracy and weighting over short distances and can hurt you going I50
- Footy smart and can use his weapons to kill
- Very slight and not AFL ready. Possibly ~3 P/S from a full-season of AFL
- Holds his feet well, big tick for good balance
- Not a big possession winner this year, but was OK last year
- Bucketloads of upside (could become a line-breaking inside midfielder that blows stop plays to smithereens)

With Boomer Harvey on the way out North need more match winning talent through the midfield coming in. Blease has one of the highest ceilings in this draft and is a personal favourtie of mine. He has big scope for improvement given he's bottom aged and missed 2007/2008 P/S. I was considering Sidebottom here, but he doesn't excite me as much as Blease and my gut feel is his ceiling is a level below elite.

Pick 10 - Adelaide- Tyrone Vickery

Adelaide should be going tall with this pick and they will absolutely be stoked if Vickery slips this far. A very mobile player who plays in the ruck and can also go up forward- two deficiencies in the Crows line-up. Vickery is very good in the contested situation and is fantastic around the ground with this skill. A great package who has a lot to offer wherever he goes.

Pick 11- Collingwood - Steele Sidebottom

Collingwood would be pleased that Steele has slipped to their pick. A big game player who was awesome during the TAC grandfinal. Steele possesses some the qualities where Collingwood are thin in, such as beautiful skills and clearance work. Steele may not have the speed, but he has the ability to just run and run and run. Has the footy smarts and Collingwood won't feel like passing up on this kid.

I actually like that some selectors have picked slightly different to the majority of BF Mock drafts. It has allowed certain players to "slip" down the draft order. It will really help to shake things up in the later rounds of the draft as well.

Looks like we might get one round completed in almost 24 hours, that is not bad going.

Pick 12 - Sydney - Lewis Johnston

In my opinion the Swans really need a key forward and he is the next best available. I don't really expect much game time from him because of Hall and O'Loughlin but considering they are both 30+ then Johnston is a good choice. Should develop into a fine footy player.
