Re: CHANGES TO CURRENT PDFL ( merged ) NEW COMP / MFL/PDFL 3 Division System Threads

What are the proposed 2010 changes?

Is Coleambally & Billabong Crows on the agenda?
The proposed changes are questionable and appear clouded, some thought is that all MFL, PDFL and KDFL clubs will be involved in a re-structure which will see 3 comps formed from those clubs.
Whilst others have indicated that it is simply nothing other than a VCFL staffing/ admin. restructure which may see a division, whatever, set up for this area:confused::confused:
The well informed and involved seem to be backing the later. ;)

Re: CHANGES TO CURRENT PDFL ( merged ) NEW COMP / MFL/PDFL 3 Division System Threads

Okay guys, without any of the 'sales pitches' post your BEST idea for the make up of the PDFL into the future:

PDFL
Berrigan
Blighty
Deniliquin Rovers
Jerilderie
Katunga
Mathoura
Picola United
Strathmerton
Waaia
Wunghnu
Yarroweyah
(Rennie if they want them)

TFL
Dookie United
Katamatite
Katandra
Shepparton East
Tungamah

Invite Congupna, Tallygaroopna, Violet Town, Benalla All Blacks and Goorambat to join.

Based on footy alone with rele/promo.

Comp 1
Dookie United
Katandra
Shepparton East
Tungamah
Waaia

Comp 2
Berrigan
Wunghnu
Yarroweyah
Mathoura
Deniliquin Rovers

Could go into either comp.
Jerilderie
Katunga
Picola United
Strathmerton
Katamatite
Blighty

Re: CHANGES TO CURRENT PDFL ( merged ) NEW COMP / MFL/PDFL 3 Division System Threads

List of the total points earned senior football and A grade netball over the past 3 years,( have multiplied Jerilderies 08 season x 3 to put into perspective)

Tungamah 368
Shepp East 320
Katandra 318
Dookie 306
Katunga 278
Waaia 268
Mathoura 240
Strathmerton 224
Picola 196
Blighty 192
Rovers 184
Katty 168
Jerilderie 156
Yarroweyah 94
Berrigan 84
Wunghnu 24

Looks also like a few sides may not of had a A grade netball side over the past 3 years, would be ordinary I think to have a 5 or so side comp. for the netballers and the netballers do pay the same price for entry and consumables ??

Re: CHANGES TO CURRENT PDFL ( merged ) NEW COMP / MFL/PDFL 3 Division System Threads

It will be an very interesting league meeting on monday night. I dare say some clubs will walk away happy some unhappy. We had our club meeting last night to discuss how the league should be split and funny enough by including Renne into the equation it made the split look better. It was difficult to say who should go where as there were a couple of clubs in a very similar situation both in onfield performances and demographicaly. By this time next week i think we will have 2 divisions of the picola league. How that will look is anyones quess

Re: CHANGES TO CURRENT PDFL ( merged ) NEW COMP / MFL/PDFL 3 Division System Threads

Monday night will be interesting indeed.

Looks like the split of the league into 'conferences' is getting closer and closer.

If the decision is made to break the league up by geography maybe the VCFL could call one the 'Picola Conference' and the other the 'Tungamah Conference'?

Will depend on whether those making the decision can remember killing off the Tungamah League back in the mid 90's.

Pace to Freeze - Care to enlighten us all on the CRISIS MEETING that the Mathoura Football Club has scheduled for the 10th of November???

(Now this is a rumour, which falls within your rules of acceptable posts on this thread. Don't delete it now.....).

Its called a annual general meeting, which most clubs are required to have every year as per their constitution. CRISIS MEETING :D:D:D:D:D

Re: CHANGES TO CURRENT PDFL ( merged ) NEW COMP / MFL/PDFL 3 Division System Threads

Based on some rumours I'm hearing about what comps different clubs want to play in, how healthy (and unhealthy) some clubs are, and who they do/don't want to play against, here's my attempt at a the split comp for next year. It's only October. Plenty of time to have this in place for 2009. Procrastinating for another year would be stupid. Comments welcome.

Northern PDFL
Berrigan
Blighty
Jerilderie
Deni
Strathy
Yarroweyah
Rennie
Coleambally (they'll fit right in, good club, not wanted in Hume)
Oaklands (Noone likes them but they're out of $ and will want to tack on to survive a few more years. Probably won't last long term though)

Southern PDFL
Tunga
Dookie
Shep East
Waaia
Picola
Katandra
Katamatite
Katunga
Wunghu
Mathoura (I also hear they're about buggered, so probably not long term)

AGM eh? Word is it could be your last? The term "Crisis Meeting" is being freely bandied about Deniliquin today (and yesterday) so someone is not real positive about your future. Hope that is not the case P2F. A great shame to see any country club fall over. A lot of people seem to think the Timber Cutters have a bad case of the wobbles though. They're only rumours though.;)

That looks like a very evenly matched, competitive league. Berrigan would have to be happy with this being centrally located to all the clubs.

Re: CHANGES TO CURRENT PDFL ( merged ) NEW COMP / MFL/PDFL 3 Division System Threads

Mathoura in trouble?!?!?! Strong word coming through that a number of clubs keen on the split. Sounds like the wheels are falling off Pace to Freeze. I guess that is why your meeting is being referred to as a crisis meeting around Deni because you'll be buggered if you are put into the NSW Comp. Perhaps that is why your club (and you) are quietly pushing for the PDFL to remain the same for 2009. Good luck to the Mathoura Club. Hope they stick at it.

You obviously must have a good informer.

Don't take it personally my friend. You don't have any confessions do you regarding the buggered?

Good luck to Mathoura FC at their meeting. Hope some of us get to play you next year.;)

Re: CHANGES TO CURRENT PDFL ( merged ) NEW COMP / MFL/PDFL 3 Division System Threads

Cant say ive heard any rumors around Deni about Mathoura folding. Did hear alot of that talk last year but i was speaking to their coach this morning and they (as many clubs) are waiting to see what the league does before trying to recruit any players. As for them not wanting to split, dont know where that has come from, they are all for it and so they should be.

Re: CHANGES TO CURRENT PDFL ( merged ) NEW COMP / MFL/PDFL 3 Division System Threads

Hope to see the PDFL split into two 8 team competitions. Clubs will be able to look forward to rivalries, less travel, general bye, and even a possible Interleague match. Rematches later in the season will allow clubs to look at player matchups, strategies, gameplans, and develop stronger relationships with opposition clubs. Current players, new recruits, clubpersons and committee's can get excited about a better chance of experiencing success, and even be proud of making the finals or just missing out - particularly clubs that consistently occupy the bottom end of the ladder. The competition can recognise more individual and team success, and teams may not have to worry about trying to scrape up 18 players with closer away games.

If it stays as 16 teams, it may take some clubs at least 16 years to experience success. That will be the beginning of the end for some clubs.

Let's face it, a 1 in 8 chance is better than 1 in 16.

Very well put , rumour is your wish is strongly supported by the majority of clubs, a couple of interesting matters which appear uncertain at the moment are :
How will it be split ?
If split, do the majority of clubs wish for Rennie to be involved ?
For a club to enter into the PDFL , apparently the proposed split comps will remain PDFL, do they still need 2 3rds majority ?

After being on and off the footy club commitie for the last 20 years I reckon this split maybe the way too go... This may prolong the life of some clubs! And I've seen alot over 30 odd years.. PDFL much stronger comp with less teams... I spose it's the old saying "less is more" Well said Frostyfruits:thumbsu:

Re: CHANGES TO CURRENT PDFL ( merged ) NEW COMP / MFL/PDFL 3 Division System Threads

Splitting is the way to go.

I think the "ideal" number of teams in a comp is 10. 20 week comp, 18 rounds (play each other twice), and 2 byes in there for bodies to recover (and for "important" jobs the missus has lined up for around the house).

How many teams make the finals in an 8 team comp? If you only have a final 4 it's too short a finals series. If you come 5th and play finals in an 8 team comp .... well .... wow .... bit of a hollow feeling. I'm hearing a few current PDFL Clubs are battling to keep going. If one of them falls over (or merges) all of a sudden you have a 7 team comp which is getting a bit thin.

I'd be taking advantage of teams like Rennie wanting to come in. I bet a lot more clubs would jump at getting into 1 of 2 10 team PDFL comps. Take on some clubs while they are keen to come on board. If you don't, you might well need them in a few years and they may be gone or ensconsed in a another comp.

Time for some brave but very smart decisions to be made.

Anyone have news on how the meeting went tonight re the future of the PDFL? Was there a split? Which way? Was Rennie (or anyone else) accepted?

Not decided upon, a proposal recommended by the board was delivered, from the suggestions received in writting by all clubs, and will be voted upon on Nov. 16 on a Yes/No majority wins basis .
Possible comps ??

Jeriliderie, Mathoura, Blighty, Deni, Yarroweyah, Wunghnu, Strathy, Picola

Tunga, Katty, Katunga, Katandra, Dookie, Berrigan, Waaia, Shepp East

That "eastern" league looks a lot stonger than the other comp. Surely Berrigan wouldn't be thrilled with being in that comp instead of with their geographic and more "traditional" rivals such as Jerilderie.

Were the comps put together purely on the basis of east/west, club strength or as the old Picola and Tungamah Leagues?

At last night League meeting the Division of the leagues would go this way... Or is the proposal..

North/West League
Yarroweyah
Blighty
Mathoura
Picola United
Deni
Wunghnu
Strathmerton
Jerilderie

South/East League
Dookie
Shepp East
Katandra
Tungamah
Katty
Waaia
Katunga
Berrigan

By my way of looking this is not a bad set up.. The South/East League is alot stronger and will be interesting if it does fall this way..

Would also be interesting if they had Interleague on a yearly basis to bring back that rivalry. What are peoples thoughts??

Re: CHANGES TO CURRENT PDFL ( merged ) NEW COMP / MFL/PDFL 3 Division System Threads

Swap Wunghu and Berrigan, stick Rennie in the north west comp and play the finals at Barooga for the NW comp good result for football

That's a good idea. Would seem silly to separate Rennie from their rivals/neighbours Berrigan and Jerilderie. I hear that Mathoura are the ones opposing this due to travel distances. I believe all other clubs in that North West Comp would agree to this. Seems silly if one or two clubs can make enough noise to dictate the make up of the Comp. Perhaps someone from Mathoura or in fact anyone who was at the meeting last night might clear that up whether true or not.

Re: CHANGES TO CURRENT PDFL ( merged ) NEW COMP / MFL/PDFL 3 Division System Threads

Not sure about Berrigan being in the South-East comp, but it keeps the traditional bus trip alive.

As per this years ladder, with a final five.

South East
Tungamah
Dookie United
Waaia
Katandra
Katunga
Shepp East
Katamatite
Berrigan

North West
Strathmerton
Deni Rovers
Blighty
Jerilderie
Picola United
Mathoura
Yarroweyah
Wunghnu
