Our first round draft pick or Rischitelli will get the 3.

Bank on it.

Can I get a refund? :D

Sam Sheldon will wear number 3 next year per today's C-M

Sam Sheldon in the number 3 that would be interesting, I think he is going to be a gun player, hope he doesn't feel in pressure in the Brisbane Lions most famous jumper.

I would also be interested to know what number pick he would go in the draft this year if he had waited the 12 months to nominate.

That is a little out of left field, but a very promising sign for how well regarded Sheldon is at the club!

He was a 12 month development player that actually was an emergency for one game. If he didn't get injured I think he may have had a senior game under his belt. Carlton wanted him to wait 12 months, luckily for us he didn't and hopefully is going to have a very good career with the Lions.

Couldn't find the article on line, but basically he asked the club if he could wear it, beginning of last year. Told him if he did all the right things he could.

His dad also wore number 3 apparently

It will take a new draftee with some coconuts to say to Lethal "give me 3".

Very impressive pair from young Sheldon;)

Sheldon asking for the number three doesn't surprise me at all.

He's a confident player who just backs himself EVERY time.

What a star.

Obviously has no plans to head back to Melbourne if he's making requests such as this.

Yeah, that's still one hell of a commitment to make as a young kid, knowing the history of the jumper.

We should sponsor Sam Sheldon for next season.:thumbsu:

Ballsy move.

Wear the 3 with pride:thumbsu:

Good call CTD, would be great to support a player from day 1. Could have extra special meaning.

I've always wondered why there's the assumption that a players will always want to wear a lower number.

Actually it's an interesting giude into their personality. No one would be surprised that Nige stuck with his #44 - didn't want to cause a fuss and probably wasn't really looking for others acceptance. Then there are others who changed their number a few times for lower numbers. Not saying that there's anything wrong with it, but it almost warrants it's own thesis.

Great point.

The lower the number the more they crave the spotlight? Flashy, super-confident players go for low numbers? Voss, Headland, Mitch C,

"just happy to be part of the team" players go for high numbers? eg Beau McDonald, Nige Lappin.

Might be something too that.

#36 Bradshaw
#35 Rischitelli - I do not think he will change numbers, from what I understand, Peter Daicos was one of his heros growing up.
#33 Darryl White
#32 Hart
#30 Copeland

Alot of our guns have been content with the 30's.

Interestingly a lot of loyalty displayed there in that group.Bradshaw, Copeland and Riska turned down big money offers from down south. Harty and Whitey were 10year plus one club players. Hmmmm theory standing up so far.

Admittedly Vossy wore 56 I think when he debuted, so no great surprise there. A lot can depend on things like what number they wore as a junior or numbers of players they looked up to (I always wore #42 or #21 if I could, but would have worn the 25 of Jesaulenko or the 5 of Kenny Sheldon). Our first-round draft picks I think get their choice, whereas the rest are assigned them automatically, so I can understand if they wanted to choose another. I just find it interesting that's all.

Guys before you go posting anything on the main board & make Lions supporters look collectively a little stupid.......

Ken Sheldon famously wore the number 5 for Carlton.
Where this No 3 thing & his father came from is beyond me.

Well I don't know what they are posting, but I said his father wore number 3 in this thread and I'll stand by that comment - Courier Mail on Thursday a direct quote from Sheldon

My old man wore number 3 for St Kilda and I also wore it for a fair part of my junior career

Voss is the contradiction he was a great team player, but also i think he loved the limelight.

Still theory holds up
