Hurley and Zaka......... After his first season Hurley top 5, now? Probably the 7-15 mark. Zaka after he won the B&F top 5 now around the same as Hurley.

Both have shown they could hit top 5 but neither have actually delivered yet.

Wanted to leave. Requested a trade to Hawthorn. We received picks 25 & 41 in return, which, along with our already-held pick 21, allowed us to draft both Ryan Bastinac and Aaron Black. We also now have the All-Australian full-back. Don't really need Gibson and his elite spoiling ability anymore.

In 2010, you traded for Ben McKinley and Cameron Richardson. Are you sure you're replacing mediocrity or bringing in mediocrity?

McKinley cost pick 85. Richardson had torn the VFL up and was worth every bit of Pick 35, which was involved in the deal to get him.

In 2011, Will Swarowski was brought in. Has he had any impact whatsoever?

Pick 58, IIRC, and played a few games towards the end of the year. Didn't set the world on fire, but I'll trust the list management folk who decided there wasn't anything worth using Pick 58 on.

In 2012, you traded for Jordan Gysberts and traded away Richardson who you had brought in 2 years prior. Excellent decisions from the recruitment department.

We traded Pedersen, who was extremely serviceable at North Melbourne, in a direct swap for Gysberts. Gysberts, from all reports, didn't want it bad enough & Pedersen squibbed it in his first or second game at Melbourne worse than Bryce Gibbs ever did.

In 2013, you brought in no-one and signed Dal Santo and Nahas as free agents. One's a good player and the other is a spud.

No-one. Except, y'know, a whole stack of off-field acquisitions. Dal Santo frees up a whole bunch of other players who are now less likely to get tagged, and will spend more time forward due to our very good half-back line. Nahas is effective depth and a shrewd piece of list management, given we paid effectively nothing for him.

The players who've fallen by the wayside, like McKinley, Sierakowski, Gysberts and Richardson all did so because they either weren't good enough, suffered pretty debilitating injuries or didn't want it badly enough. We also paid basically nothing for all of them.

When a good player with currency decides he wants to leave, like Gibson did, we've received more than adequate compensation & used those picks to select players that will be outstanding footballers for North for years to come. Aaron Black could be anything.

Add to that getting NDS in free agency, which would be top 3 moves along with Thomas & Franklin, for 3 years and then put the free hit at Luke McDonald in there as well?

If it's not "elite" list management, I don't know what is.

It would be a good idea to understand the context of the discussion. Bill was implying that North have been trading really well for elite players after 2009, and I was puzzled. As a neutral supporter who doesn't have a vested interest in rubbishing Rockcliffe to justify my own hyping of Ziebull I can safely say that Rockcliffe at 4 makes more sense then Ziebull.

Premiership player, received NS votes in both GF's. 24 disposals in the next GF. First final he played, 28 disposals.

Stat = 1 kick. I would take 20 of JZ touches over 25 of Rockcliffe. And there is no way he is as hard. Or have you a stat for courage stat man?

He wasn't the youngest in his draft class. Liam Shiels, with a very late April birthday, is nearly 4 months younger. Others from that draft who are 1.5-3 months younger than Sidebottom include Hannebery, Watts and Ziebell.

He may have been the first to play 100 games from his draft class but is not the only one, and several are not far off. Steven Hill has played exactly the same number (108), while Hannebery is on 101. Rich and Redden are both on 98, and another 10 or so are well over the 80 mark. Luck with injuries is contributing factor to how many games these players have so far managed to accumulate, as much as their talent or physical development.
