Just an observation from us this year..

Do you think in 2009 we started slow, had a good run in the middle of year then id say last 5-6 rounds plus finals we fell right off the pace, minus a couple of good games(eg.Adelaide s/f)?

We had our good players in pendles, thomas, didak, swan etc playing uninjured,in form,in middle of year,in which we had our good run, towards end of year most players were carrying niggles or out of form,or just knackered..(younger players)

Well come 2010 i think we have had a compleatly different approach, horses for courses has been said for years, but i think this year is the only time its been done correctly, resting players, dropping players on form(no matter who they are or what they have done in past) and giving our next generation a great look in,if we have any major injuries these players now have some experience playing senior football..

We run alot deeper than last year and with adding luke ball will help our young guns in the middle like beams and sidebottom,i think come august september in there 2nd years with not having to be on bottom of packs could see players of there silk really looking good for us heading into back haif of season....

Well my point is..Do you think we have managed our team alot better this year?

And do you think we will be better for it come september?

When we bail out in the Prelim again, (if we get there) will prove that even if you're right, it will all be for nought.

you are too cynical mate. footy is to be enjoyed, not loathed. enjoy the ride.

But i agree, it was as if in last years review, the staff knew what had to be done, and that was player management.

Yeah, I think the thread starter meant ">>>" in the sense of moving from last year to this year, in the kinetic rather than the mathematical sense. Of course, time doesn't move kinetically anyway... :p

I think we may well be managing players better this year, but it's certainly too early to tell. I'm worried about "flirting with form" too much, in the sense that we seem to be tinkering with the side a bit much even when we have a decent record. Our forward structure has most closely resembled a revolving door this year. Also on a lesser scale I'm keen that we should try to give some of the younger guys a consistent run in the seniors as much as possible. Reid and Sidebottom have gotten this chance, but Brown/Anthony/Dawes not so much. I know there's every chance that we're modelling ourselves on the way soccer clubs rotate their starting rosters depending on matchups and importance of particular games, but development is also important and there needs to be a balance. We're probably not far off the right balance though, so credit to the club.

More importantly, however, is that this year as opposed to last year, I think we can beat any side in the competition on our day. Last year I simply didn't think we could beat Geelong or St. Kilda.
