2009 BUDDY DRAFT - get on board!!

I think, to be completely fair, we should start afresh. I thoroughly enjoyed the privilege of being Rocca's Buddy Reporter this year, but I'd be happy to write about any player, and there are many excellent posters who could do a great job on our hero.

Before people put their name forward, I'd urge everyone to realistically consider whether or not they have the time to report on a player's progress regularly throughout the year. Last year, some posters were disappointed that they didn't get their preferred player, but then the lucky buddy reporter headed for the hills and we had few reports on certain key players.

So count me in again, Skeetz, or whoever else takes on this onerous task.

Just to clarify, Stripes, we don't actually post out the players.:p

What? We don't? god dammit count me out then haha;)

I would be happy to "post" on any player that is available, hopefully i get a regular otherwise things might get a bit boring.

If we get a player that plays majority in the VFL we still post their progress and stats from the VFL games though right?

I'd like to keep Goldsack.
I'm not a fan of change....

I'll admit now that I probably won't be able to do much in regards to reporting next year. Next year I'm in grade 12, so I doubt I'm going to have much time to do anything..... let alone post on BF & keep up to date with my Buddy. But I'm happy to try.

Hahaah......you're deluded.

We didn't have too much trouble last year finding the required ammount of people to put their hand up for this, but getting people to contribute each week was another thing.

I think a lot people liked the idea of the draft, god knows we needed some fun and excitement in the off season. They had a player that they could say was 'mine'. But the real idea is not to make people around here feel special, it's supposed to be player-specific match reports, as well as a discussion/news tracker.
The idea behind assigning each player to a poster was that hopefully each week all the posters would watch the match, and provide a personal insight into their player's performace in the match, along with maybe some stats etc.

Sounds like a great idea, no? Well in reality there were very few Player threads that were updated each week, and many that were left untouched after the excitement of the draft, gathering some vital stats and adding a pretty picture to make a nice opening post wore off.

Last year I was Racer's buddy. Most games I watched last year I had this specifically in mind. I found it gave me a whole new outlook on watching a game, being very focused on just one player. I loved going back and reading my posts from during the year, as they give a point of view and recollection that no one else can give.

When do we start?
Well I really think we need to get as many people on board first as possible!

It's pretty hard at this time of year though. A lot of people are on holidays, maybe some of the solely footy orientated (rather than partly social) posters don't visit much in the off season.
Once we get a decent amount of people, I reckon we randomize the list (perhaps giving some small advantage to posters who have been here a long time/took initiative in last year's Buddy Reporting?).
I don't want to be discrimanatory, but we don't want high profile players going to a poster who won't bother to put in the hard yards.
Conversely, if a "newb" gets stuck lower down the order and does not get the player of their choosing, there is nothing at all stopping them from writing reports on their preffered player as well and posting them to the Buddy Board.

In fact, the Buddy Board could be a pretty boring place if each thread was just a match report each week from 1 poster.
Next year, I am planning on doing my own Buddy Report, plus choosing one other random player each week to specifically watch and do a bit of a mini report. :thumbsu:
