Sounds like a good idea, especially considering some of the shite on wikipedia. I think Skeetz offered to do the Buddy draft.

Wikipedia is pretty good as far as accuracy on most things goes (at least pop-culture wise). With sports though it's completely different. You are not allowed to say so and so is one of the greatest players ever or of their era unless you have proper sources.

I remember making a page about bigfooty. Despite it being the 2nd biggest forum in Australia and having a source for that they deleted it for not being noteworthy enough. I hate wikinazis.

I'd like to join in as well but I will be away from the afternoon of 4th to 8th of Jan. Can I still be involved or should I leave it for someone who'll be online during that time?
You shouldn't miss out just because you are going away for 3 or 4 days!
Just send me a list with your preferences of players and I'll put your bid in for you. Actually that's how it worked last year, so we didn't need to have certain people online at certain times of the day.

So if anyone has already decided, feel free to PM me a list of your preffered players :). But please don't send me a list, then send me another list with changes etc etc.

No worries abs, but you will be designated a newbie. We really don't want someone to get a high profile player and not bother updating the thread much, and with newbies we can't really tell how much they will post/how much they visit the site. Some people join up, have fun for a couple of weeks, then get bored.

Consequence is you will have a lower pick in the draft, but I'm sure there will be some beauties to pick up lower down the order!

knighter, I think it would be only fair if Collingwood supporters had preference in this. But as a budding young reporter, feel free to visit the Buddy Board throughout the year and put some match reports down if you wish.

Ok fair enough. Every Collingwood player is a beauty.:thumbsu:

I still like my idea of having two designated "buddy" posters (numbers permiting) for all the reason you list above.

Thanks to all who have already sent in their preferences, it will make it a lot easier come draft time. I also don't mind if people want to actually participate in a real-time draft.

We are getting closer and closer to our target of a full size list to cover every player in a Pies jumper, which is great news. I am still pondering Pie Eyed's suggestion of doubling up on reporters...what do the rest of you guys think?

I would be stoked if our esteemed mods could find the time once a week to contribute as well. As mods, they obviously spend quite a bit of time here, and must have their own opinions and views regarding our players. It would be great if they could join in the project as moderators on other Buddy forums have.

I really like Pie eyed's suggestion of a team of 2 reporters, each bringing a different insight to the player and his progress throughout the season. It also offers the practical advantage that if one reporter can't see a game, we'll hear from the other.

Also, by sharing the load, busy posters are less likely to abandon their thread if they miss a few weeks. And it'll be loads more fun - fancy having Pie eyed, RRRoocccaaa or one of our young media magicians to illustrate your thread!

I also think the idea of a real-time draft is excellent, but let me know well in advance. I don't want to miss anything.:)

What was wrong with the way you did this last year.

Draw the Poster first and that poster gets to select from the still available players on the list. A live draft.

EG:
You draw the first poster, who just happens to be Pie eyed...dinks,
I then have to chose a player from the "unselected list, which in the case of the first picked would be anyone.

You then chise the next poster, say Snag, who then picks their "Buddy"

etc. etc.

Make the live draft on an easily accessible evening say in mid January.
Any poster who will not be online on the designated evening should provide a friend (fellow board member) with a list of say 4 options in order just in case. The friend could then select for that poster by proxy.

Easy....
Then after the draw posters with highly regarded players can haggle with those who would like to be alternate "Buddy" poster.

I think it would be great to get Daisy as I reckon I could probable get a few botties of the Johnny Walker off a few potential "Buddies"....lol

But seriously I would be happy to be the alternate even.
The main thing is that those who want to and are keen don't miss out and get a chance to show their wares.

Yeah there is nothing wrong with how we did it last year, which was a live draft. But a lot of people still chose to PM their choices to nick_savo anyways so if they weren't online to make their choice, it didn't hold up the draft.
We randomized the order of posters, then they just made their choice when it was their turn. Pretty simple.
I think Snag's idea of having last year's Buddy stay on board is also a good idea though. Or maybe everyone could just make 2 choices, a primary buddy and a secondary buddy? The draft won't be for a while yet, so there is still time to ponder these important decisions :D

I think you've misunderstood me, Skeetz, I think just the opposite. I think we should go back to square 1, where everyone who chooses to enter the draft starts on an equal footing - no preferences for former buddies at all. That's the only fair way.

We do it just as we did last year - with posters getting picks in an order determined by some random program such as Nick Savo used. When all 44 players are taken, if there are still posters who want to be involved, they could negotiate with successful buddies to be involved. First- round Buddies would be obliged to seriously consider an approach from an unsuccessful buddy.

Jebus! This getting like the Northern Ireland elections.
