I'd like to see us try something fresh and innovative, such as going into rd 1 without an official captain and telling the players those who have dreams of captaining the club have until round 5 to prove they are worthy. Make the captaincy something that has to be earned and wanted and sort out the leaders from the frontrunners. I reckon Brock would step up to the challenge provided he doesn't injure himself again.

Give it to Green. Let Brock mature for a year or 2 and then throw him in the deep end.

I think after Green's carrying ons over the trade week he shouldn't even be in the leadership group.

Personally I think J.McDonald for 2009 and then McLean for 2010

Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please give it to BROCK!!

Send the competition and the club a message that we want someone strong and who doesn't take sh!t and actually cares passionately for the MFC.

VCs can be one/any/all of Junior, Green, Bruce, Miller, bloody Newton for all I care as long as Brock is skipper.

Brock to VC in 09 while Junior Captains and hands over the reigns at the end of the season

Agree.
Junior is the soul of this footy club, absolute stalwart.
Give him the captaincy as he is going to retire at the end of next year anyway.
He leads by example, and seems to be an upstanding citizen off field, there's not much more you can ask for in a captain.

Brock deserves it, but he needs to get his body + game right before he adds more to his workload.

I know for a fact its gonna be bruce

Not that i have a source or that i agree with it, but it kinda makes sense. If they don't think that Brock is ready and Green may have ruled himself out, then they might see Bruce as the logical stop-gap captain.

Personally i think if they go with a stop gap junior is the best option as he'll most likely retire at the end of year, like Viney was a good option because he wasn't go to stay there long.

know someone who is very close to sandy, actually extremely close to sandy.

I'd say we'd go into 2009 with a leadership group of:
Definites
Bruce
McDonald
Green
McLean
Miller
Possibles
Moloney
Robertson
Whelan
Rivers

Green's trade week rules him out, Miller still hasn't done enough on the field and I just can't see McDonald as a captain, he leeds brilliantly by example but I don't think he really wants the addittional media and stuff like that. So it comes down to Bruce or McLean. I think I'd probably go the soft option of Bruce as well, because they both go okay in the media and obviously Bruce is solid on the field and will always work very hard but might not put his body on the line everytime. But I think he gets the job because he is respected and consistent. If Brock played out the whole of last year I'd go for him, but right now I think coming off a decent injury he still has a bit of the ground he lost in his tour of Europe to make up. I also think he will end up captaining this club for 5+ years and hopefully take us to a flag in that time, but we don't need to rush it. We shouldn't copy everything Hawthorn did in their rebuild as I think you always need a point of difference to make you the best, but I think they got it right with their captaincy, ie. Vanderburg to Mitchell (Hodge).

In 2010 i would love to see Brocky Captain and Moloney Vice that guy has so much passion for the Red and Blue would love to see him lead out the team. Seen him pump up the boys many times in the huddle. Maybe even PJ lot of passion also.

So your source is someone at the VFL club we ceased to have anything to do with at the end of August?
well like most people here i'm not prepared to name names but he is the son of a past board member, and just because the team's are split now doesn't mean he stops all communication with players and staff. Sure as time goes on he'll know less and less about melbourne considering he's a geelong supporter, and couldn't care less about us, and as time goes on again will get to know the saints a whole lot more. if i'm wrong i'm prepared to take the shit but i'm not gonna make up crap to make myself look good .

That might have come out a little wrong. Someone with something to do with Sandy is much more likely to know inside information then any of us and any whisper is appreciated as long as it's not been fabricated, which i don't think you would do.

The point i meant to insinuate was that any info he would have is likely to be from September or earlier and i wouldn't expect us to announce a captain before the NAB cup at the earliest, about late Feb. So i would think that our captaincy for next year would be far from set in stone and i would at very least a little sceptical of any certainties being stated this far out. Not saying that it won't happen, but i would doubt that a decision has already been made
