Bell has to go. I'd like to keep Buckley for one more year. I can't believe that people think Cheney is a chance to go.

Spencer has a year left as a rookie yeah? I wouldn't bother keeping him on if he's finished his 2 years. There isn't a spot on an AFL team for someone who completely can't kick.

Meesen, Jamar, Johnson and Martin is enough for ruckman. If we have to get rid of one, it'd be Johnson.

we are in a better position now to pay for a superstar then we were when we chased Judd.

Yes but... is there anyone worth chasing? Considering the youth policy and all... is there anyone that Bailey would think of chasing?

Darth Vader?

Nah he'd be too old mate ;)

Rohan Bail - Keep. One more year. Hasn't had a run at all.

Clint Bartram - Keep. He's played his best season so far in my opinion.

Daniel Bell - Trade. Will trade for sandwich & chocolate milk.

Simon Buckley - Keep. One more year. But if he misses all of 2010 then he's gone.

Kyle Cheney - Keep. Kids need time to find their feet.

Lynden Dunn - Keep. Dunn tore it up in his last two games this year.

Paul Johnson - Keep. If Meesen was up & running I'd say trade or de-list, but Johnson is our 2nd best Ruckman (the first being Jamar), & I don't have all that much confidence in Spencer.

Addam Maric - Keep. But he needs to play some consistent football next year.

John Meesen - Keep. He showed something in his couple of games this year, & we need to keep at least three Ruckmen. But if he does down injured again he'll probably be shown the door.

Michael Newton - Keep. One more year. 2010 better be the year of Juice, or he's gone.

Rhys Healey - Keep. He was good before he was injured in the VFL, could possibly make it at AFL level.

Danny Hughes - De-list. He's never going to come through.

Jordie McKenzie - Keep. Needs to find his feet.

Jake Spencer - Keep. One more year. If Meesen goes down again we'll need him.

Shane Valenti - Keep. No brainer.

Trent Zomer - De-list. Not good enough.

Jake Spencer - Keep. One more year. If Meesen goes down again we'll need him.

I think Spencer poses a problem in that he has had 2 years on the rookie list and he either needs to be de-listed or take a spot in the senior list. Fair bit of competition for the last spot.

Bit of a quagmire as what to do with him. Is he worth it?

Is it against the rules to delist and then re rookie him?

bartram should stay, been good in last half of season.. dunn also, needs to play in a regular role. Buckley gets 1 more year

miller, bell and PJ should all go. miller fumbling/dropping easy ball on weekend was shocking.

Really, I thought you just had to let them go and then re-rookie them. I wouldn't think anyone would be desperate to have him so we keep him training in the full intent of redrafting him.

I'd suggest we'd be looking at a player the elk of: Bell, Miller, Bartram etc plus a pick in an attempt to upgrade (the pick) and free up space on the list.

Goobernutty, whilst wanting to keep basically everyone is all well and loyal, sadly it can't happen that way.

We have to get rid of at least three more players, on our senior list. Therefore Zomer and Hughes don't count as two of the three.

I'm inclined to get rid of those who have had the most time to prove themselves, therefore the likes of Bell, Buckley, Newton, PJ and Miller (in that order). Whether it be trade or delisting, they have to go.

Doesn't work like that my friend...

What it comes down to is, how many draft selections do we want in the upcoming draft? How many rookies do we want to elevate to the senior list?

With Whelan, Robbo and Wheatley gone, we have picks 1,2,18 at the moment... At a bare minimum, at least another 2 have to go, giving us, 1, 2, 18, 34, PSD 1... If we want to elevate any rookies, then we need to make more room...

There will be some surprises with the delistings. I mean, we delisted two players who played in a grand final side in the year 2000 in Matty Collins and Ben Beams... Some here will be surprised...

The fact is two of the below six players have to go at a minimum. More if we want to upgrade Valenti or Spencer to the senior list.

Daniel Bell - gone, nothing surer.

Clint Bartram - I think this will be the shock. Tries his guts out, but is he going to be anywhere near our best 22 when we're challenging? Wouldn't have thought so. Junior staying on doesn't help his cause either

Tom McNamara - still very young, and you'd think we'd rookie him if we didn't keep him. Out of contract and yet to be re-signed.

Kyle Cheney - over rated by many on this site. Gets cheap kicks from a half back flank, doesn't have much of a defensive side to his game, unaccountable, skills are mediocre. Like T Mac, out of contract, and yet to be re-signed.

Paul Johnson - Ruck stocks looking reasonably strong with Jamar, Martin, Meesen and Spencer on the rookie list. If Spencer is to be elevated, I think PJ is gone, which is a shame because he's shown promise at times.

Simon Buckley - Injury has hurt him this year, I really hope he gets another chance.

If I were Dean Bailey, I would delist Bell, Bartam, Cheney, and promote Valenti. Really would have to look at the PJ vs Spencer scenario too. If they believe Spencer really has something for the future, I'd delist PJ as well... Would depend if we picked up a ruckman in the draft also...

Maybe Mcdonald should retire?
He won't be in our next premiership team and is just taking a spot that could be filled by one of our young midfielders.

imagine him on a football field :eek:

I was actually beginning to agree with you after seeing this but.. then I realized... we have "The Messiah" Jack Watts who can do better then that :D

And let's not forget... The Cougar, Liam Jurrah :thumbsu:

Than again... are you sure that ISN'T Watts in that gif?

Would it be possible to rookie-list Buckley and / or Bartram next season (presuming no-one picks them up in the draft)? Wasn't there some rule about being able to have an under-23 rookie on the list?

It's a shame Bell and Newton are contracted. Would have made things so much easier otherwise.

Is Daniel Bell definately contracted for next year? I think you can still let him go and replace him but you have to count his salary within your cap.

I think delist;

Robertson
Johnson
Bell
Whelan
Wheatly
Bartram
Zomer

If we ugrade Valenti and McKenzie I think this leaves us with 5 draft picks - plus pick 1 in the pre-season which is probably about right for this year.

If we wanted one more pick in the draft I would say Dunn is next to go.

We could also take on 4 new rookies.

Gone
Robertson
Wheelan
Wheatly

Possible goings
Bell
Zomer
Hughes
Spencer
Johnson
Buckley
Miller
Newton

One of newton and miller has to go, like wise johnson or spencer, mainly becuase each are competing for the same two spots.

Buckley unlucky with injuries but he can't kick and makes bad decisions his pace is not a factor now we have benell, davey (in the back half) blease, struass to come into the side next year. All with pace and skill.

Bell has had his chance time to go, zomer can't even get a game in Casey 1's. Hughes can play but not at any standard to influence AFL.

Half the players people are delisting are from the rookie list which make no difference to the main list.

Spencer
Hughes
Zomer

Delisting them would do nothing but free up rookie spots and for the person who said Hughes couldn't influence AFL level, I seriously disagree and think given the chance he could be an exciting prospect in the forward line. He should have got an opportunity this season because his VFL form was exceptional, has the "X-Factor" that a forward line needs.

I was only thinking in terms of the first four draft picks. With Robbo, Wheels & Wheaters gone, plus probabaly Bell, that essentially gives us the first four picks of the draft. But if we up-grade rookies (I thought Spencer had another year, & that Valenti had been given a third year for some reason), then yeah two more will have to go, & maybe one more, making up the Pre-Season Pick (though I personally believe it's expendable, taking into consideration we have Blease, Strauss, who haven't played, plus 3 first rounders this year).

Agree with most of this.

I'd throw Miller on the trade table, and if there are no takers, I'd delist him.

Not sure who to keep out of Johnson and Spencer. PJ is an oversized midfielder who's struggled in the ruck, whilst Spencer has potential as a ruckman but looks hopeless in general play.

Bell has to go.
