Only complaint would be not playing Collingwood twice and probably not enough Friday Night Games.

Otherwise, its definatley one of the best we've had the last few years. Im sure a few people would agree with that.

Geelong in Round 2 is great, get it over and done with, plus its a smaller ground, which gives us a better chance. :thumbsu:

Dear oh dear, what are we dealing with here? Geelong at Skilled is "great"?/

col, carl and ess all exempt from going there for the past 7 years but we have to contiually go there( 2008 was a rare exception). I know for a fact that Garry March virtually threatened the AFL if we got Geelong Twice again and wasn't happy about the skilled trip.

It is a guaranteed loss.

As for the small ground comment. Did you watch the two games at subi this year on the massive ground? what were the results?

How did we go on the small ground in sydney?

Total stupidity to suggest a small ground suits us against the strong boodied cats.

At least we have avoided playing a grand finalist twice for the first time in five years.

Good post, Snag! :thumbsu:

The sardine can is not a great place to be in round 2, but better than later, and I think a bigger ground suits us and our run to space plays we make, although given how we performed in 2008 against them at the MCG and TD this year we might as well see if Skilled gives us a better shot. ;)

The 'Coasters' will be tanking in the last game in order to get the best shot at the last uncompromised draft so you can pencil-in R22 as a win:thumbsu:

I wasn't really worried about the Weagles at all, to be honest.

say when is the NAB game tipped to be in Tas phx..what day?

Not sure Bojangles. It might have said in the local paper but I cant remember it.

Wouldnt surprise me if they make a twilight Saturday like the Swans vs Hawks (?) round 1 NAB cup game was last year, which was a good success. Two vic sides would make it a sell out with good whether I'd say

The weekend at my guess after looking at last years fixture for NAB Round 1 will be the 20th-22nd of Feb.

what i'm really loving is rounds 15-21 ALL at the MCG!!
with 7 weeks...in a row, mind you...all at our beloved home ground at the end of the year, we're a dead cert to make the eight next year.
beautiful chance to consolidate a spot, that run

Looks like Round 9 (Dreamtime) and Round 21 (Hawks) will be go-ers for me coming over next year.

Hoping for 1 more early in the year but not sure on which yet.

I am definately looking at the DreamTime match. My mates is a Bomber supporter and we have been planning on planning a trip to Melbourne to see our clubs play eachother, that looks the goods. :thumbsu:

Just glancing at the first seven rounds I think on past form we'd be good for two wins - five losses.

Negative I know, but I think the boys with large pay packets courtesy of Visy will move ahead of us this year.

I'm hoping some of our forwards gain some muscle over summer. We have the mids but our presence in the forwards needs to cause our opponents a headache otherwise the turnovers from the 08 season will mirror 09.

Im sure it's already been said but this fixture is ******ed.

I was actually on the AFLs side this season when people complained about teams not facing each other in the first 15 rounds, or even teams not facing each other until late in the season, because they were only a couple rounds off. This time we have the Dogs twice in the first 11 rounds, and Collingwood get the Dees twice in the same time frame. Furthermore, we don't play the Hawks until Rd21. Not that this bothers me from a winning perspective but it is poor organisation

What is Monday the 13th of April?
We play the Dogs on that day, and it is constantly said in the articles and reports ive read that Collingwood/St Kilda is the only new 'Monday Night game'
So I spose this game is at day, but what is the significance of this day?

Bigger grounds suit the better team.

We were the better team against Fremantle and West Coast, no question.

But against Geelong, a smaller ground will suit us far better.

Firstly, a smaller ground will mean it is far easier to use zone tactics, but also so that we can counterattack if we force the ball over. On a ground like the MCG or Telstra Dome, the Cats have more room to move, and especially with their attack from the backline, it will be much easier to apply forward pressure on a smaller ground.

Secondly, the Cats are a bigger team and will bruise us. Skilled Stadium being a smaller ground means that the pressure the Cats apply on us wont be as effective because our players wont be running as far. On a ground like the Telstra Dome, our midfielders will be buried constantly and have to get up and chase the footy again, however its bigger, meaning they will be fatigued quicker.

Thirdly, windy, wet and blustery conditions that could occur at Skilled will suit us better because it can nullify the better kicking skills that the Cats have over us. :thumbsu:

While a smaller ground will make it easier for us to set up a zone it also means that a good team like the Cats can rip us apart much easier too. Our players will have to be switched on all day the slightest drop off and the Cats could bang on 5 goals real quick.

A smaller ground will also mean our smaller players are in the play more often and will be under greater pressure from the Cats. While they wont get tired as quick they will get beat up. Much more fatiguing getting up each time you get buried rather than just chasing.

Thirdly, windy, wet and blustery conditions that could occur at Skilled will suit us better because it can nullify the better kicking skills that the Cats have over us. :thumbsu:
Wet, windy & blustery conditions will just expose our lack of skills and will result in more turnovers from us. Take a look at the first game against the Cats this year, wet and cold at the 'G and they were a 5 goal better side despite us having a fair bit of control during the first half & doing well in the last quarter.

The one thing I'm glad about is we play them in the first 4 weeks of the season. Hopefully they wont be in full flight by then so any loss wont really hurt % wise and secondly we have a better chance of knocking them off. After that we get to sit back and watch the other 14 sides battle against them while we can focus on getting a spot in the 8 secured before having to front up against the Pies and Hawks in rounds 20 & 21.
