Re: Media Thread

It seems evident that the club is looking for 2 ND picks and 1 PSD - we have been linked to about half a dozen players, including Brown (now retired), Pattison, Robertson, Nick Davis. The media is guessing but there is obviously someone we are eyeing off.

Re: Media Thread

Hear what you say SS, but posters laughed when we picked up Dawson and heaped scorn when we traded for Faz.

If a PSD pick doesn't work out then no great loss. Many would have base-type cotracts and a one year commitment.

The romantic in me thinks that we'll do a Mini and pick Goose up (who kicks 5 goals at full forward in his 100th game for the Saints)!!! I'll just keep telling myself that until common sense prevails.

Re: Media Thread

.....

.....Sooper Hooper? Do. Not. Want.
He apparently forgot to turn up to a Richmond training session. Shit attitude. Can't believe Brisbane were paying him 350k, still had a year to run on his contract as well. Volumes spoken.

Couldn't agree more, who would take someone with off field issues, been suspended by his club, walked out on the club, is inconsistant, pretty much an outside type, 27 years old, and still commands top dollar.....

Oh, hang on........

Lyon said he expected several players to improve in 2010, naming David Armitage, Jack Steven, Robert Eddy and Jarryn Geary as the main contenders to take Ball’s place in the Saints’ star-studded midfield.

“Armo’s done his apprenticeship. He had a great pre-season last year. He tore his hammy leading into the first pre-season game so it really put him behind,” Lyon said. “When he got an opportunity he was best on the ground against Hawthorn in Tassie. "He is ready to go, a fourth-year player, endurance animal, clearance beast. As disappointed as we are to lose Luke, certainly David is one of those players who can step into that void.”

Lyon said he expected the Saints’ hard line to be justified on draft day. "What we’re about to find out at the national draft is Luke Ball - where's he rated? Ask me the question afterwards to see if it was fair and equitable tomorrow.”

Nine of the 21 remaining grand final players had post-season surgery but all were out on the track.

Re: Media Thread

I've also wondered how Gram would go as a clearance player, with someone like Geary taking his place in the back line.
In the past Gram has voiced aspirations to play in the midfield.

Will also be interested to see if Jones can add some more dimension to his game, given he seems to pull a new rabbit out of his hat each pre-season.

Re: Media Thread

Too be fair Squizzy... that was only the Tigers midfield. :p

Nice to see that Ross is also getting the Armorall feeling as he leads us to an extra shiny cup.:D *beats down wood in a forest so as not to jinx anything*

Got to love the look on their faces , like "why are we even here, when can we go home"

Re: Media Thread

What a nice response fromm Goosey, realising that his time was just up at the saints and that's that. Even if it is the blues I hope he gets picked up (he'll be paid well at least and will have an excellent chance to forward any environmental ambassadorship aspirations as well :D).

Best of luck to the goose

Re: Media Thread

Ok, so he's no longer one of us
Still, I hope Goose gets picked up in the draft today, even if it is to Carlton

Yeah as disappointed as I was to see us delist Goose, you hope he gets another opportunity somewhere else. Would be tough seeing him run around in a Carlton jumper though.

Also interesting to see his comments about how getting the titanium rod out now has improved his flexibility and that Nathan Brown said it will make him 20-30% better. You have to wonder if it was worth us keeping him on our list for one more year to see how he went without the rod.

If a couple of our key defenders go down with injury next year we might regret delisting him as he would still have been a handy back up.

Re: Media Thread

Whilst I would have liked us to keep the Goose, he would have found it difficult to get past Blake, Dawson, Fisher and Gilbert when most teams only play two tall forwards these days.

The other issue is that Gram, Goddard, and Clarke can all take a taller opponent at a pinch. Miles has added some depth and I still think you guys will be impressed with Simpkin who moves like an AFL footballer (just hasn't got an AFL tall defenders body yet).

Re: Media Thread

Can i just reiterate that emotion young fella ?:D

Stay injury free please.:thumbsu:

Oh, anytime at all mate.

Armooooooo!

Agree with Squiz. It's clear that the list management group rate Simpkin and Miles a better chance to play 100 games for us in the future. Probably on a combination of age and injury-free-ness. Although I seem to recall Miles having his fair share of injuries in the past couple years?

Regardless, I think Simpkin might sneak up on a few people...he's lookin the goods according to those who attend Sandy matches, and was in the Bests like 50% of his games for the Seniors...not bad.

Jesus, how bad was Browny before he got his rod removed if he was 30% better afterwards. ( I was going to say "got his rod out" but that didn't sound too good).

Yeah I guess it would still have been difficult for him to force his way into the team next season unless we had a few injuries. Probably better for him to go elsewhere where he can play regular AFL games.

I remember Brown was pretty awful when he first came back with the rod still in his leg. He did improve after he had it removed but he was never the same player. Have a feeling it will be the same for Goose, he may improve without the rod but he's unlikely to ever be the same player he was before he broke his leg.
