Re: Media Thread

Who would you drop for him L2M4G?

Based on this week's current 22 it would be Raph Clarke. Purely on a matchup basis.

Baker would play on Stokes in my opinion.

Re: Media Thread

When I was driving home yesterday, I was listening to "The drive home" on SEN.
Someone ( Buckley maybe ) had written an article about the relevance of "stoppers" in the current game, that they may be a dying breed.
The SEN guys were saying basically - Rubbish the top two sides in the AFL have two of the best taggers in the game in Ling and Jones.

Just thought that it was interesting that they casually mention Jones and Ling being on a par. He's come a long way for a rookie from WAFL. He might get better too.

Re: Media Thread

God i love Roo.
Hutchy's shitting bricks as we speak.

Saw that as well, Hutchy also seemed to miss the point since Rooey had to repeat himself and then really laughed it off as "or would that be too dangerous? haw haw"

Pretty much confirms his reputation in regards to BS I would have thought.

Re: Media Thread

Wow, I hope someone in the Saints heard that and passes the word onto him.

Gun.

Now if only he can learn to kick a tiny little bit better. :D

I don't know is he worse than Lenny? Hopefully it is next on his things to do list. - Get fit, Tick, Buff up , Tick , Learn to Kick.....

Billy B was on SEN this morning said that Richo left straight away after the footy show finished without saying anything to Hutchy.

Honestly, as much as I'd have liked to see Richo just plant on on his face, anything Richo said to Hutchy would have been splashed across the papers anyway, and if he did give him a thump, even more so plus legal proceedings probably. So it was at least good to see that Richo and Rooey attempted to beat them at their own game as much as Hutchy probably deserves to get a thump.

Re: Media Thread

I hear BJ's dulcet tones will be heard on the footy programme on One Digital at 7.30 tonight.

Hopefully he can fend off Robert Wall's questions :
1. I hear you were a Carlton fan as a youngster?
2. So were you disappointed that Carlton was unfairly found to be breaching the salary cap so you couldn't get drafted by the Blues?
3. When does your contract come up? Do you think you might still play for Carlton one day?
4. Wouldn't it be great to play with Juddy?
5. Wanna watch an old video of me playing for Carlton?

7. So BJ would it take one to get you to Carlton? Sam Laine is queued up out the back if so.

Too far? Too far, maybe Hughesy would be better....

Re: Media Thread

Yeah BJ's - she's waiting.

BJ? ... Where'd he go?

Re: Media Thread

I can't (well I can probably) believe that Robert Walls asked him who he barracked for as a kid. Tosser.

He then backed up with "and you know you should have been a Carlton player ..." F-wit!!!

They had a look at the marks of the week, and I was thinking how funny it would be if BJ asked why his grab wasn't in the best 3. He did!

So who's your mother barrack for?
You know, you should have been a Carlton player, but Jack Elliot cheated the cap. Who rang you up to tell you what happened?

If I was BJ, after getting out of that I'd go back to the club "if you make me go on there again I'm walking". Seriously, we're 10 zip, ladder leadrs and Wallsy still can't figure out suitable questions to ask and "so.. Carlton.. LOL!"

Saints coach not hung up over AFL bans
Adam Cooper June 2, 2009

The Saints' clean disciplinary record in 2009 was blotted on Tuesday when ruckman Michael Gardiner accepted a one-game suspension for striking Melbourne's Mark Jamar, which will keep him out of Saturday's clash against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.

Lyon was disappointed to lose a player who has turned his career around at the Saints from his troubled days at West Coast, but felt Gardiner's forearm to Jamar's head was worse than it looked.

Just as Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson was content with an uncompromising style in 2008 despite run-ins with the judiciary, Lyon said the Saints had to ready themselves for an occasional worry if they maintained the same intensity from the first 10 rounds. "He'll learn from it and move on," Lyon said of Gardiner. "But we're playing pretty hard football and we'll cross that line a few times and we'll have to deal with that. "It's unrealistic to expect at an AFL club you're going to go through without an indiscretion or an error in judgement. "We value having our personnel on the park, but if you're competing and you're going hard and you're in that state of mind, you'll make some decisions that sometimes bend the rules too far."

Besides finding a replacement for Gardiner, the Saints must also monitor the fitness of defender Sam Gilbert, who hurt an ankle on Saturday night, and small forward Stephen Milne, who missed the game with knee soreness. But Lyon said the Saints were more confident than not that the pair would play the Kangaroos, when the Saints seek a club record 11th win in succession.

Lyon said he had not detected a wane in the Saints' motivation to continue winning, and felt there was still areas to work on. "Clearly we're doing some things well - our team defence and our stoppage work is really good - but we turned the ball over a little bit (against the Demons) and weren't accurate in front of goal," he said.

Re: Media Thread

I like Robert Walls but that was absolute bullshit. Was there a question asked about how the side actually went? **** me.

Anyway do you think the club record will play on the mind of the boys this week?

Xavier Clarke comforted by Ross Lyon visit

Damian Barrett | June 04, 2009

IN the early May days when Xavier Clarke was sore in body and worried in mind after learning his season was over before it began, comfort came in the form of a visit from his coach, Ross Lyon.

Clarke, nursing a reconstructed knee and out of contract at the end of the year, was assured by Lyon that while this season would be a personal write-off there was going to be a St Kilda future involving him.

"I was pretty groggy, but Rossy pretty much said to me he would like to have me at the club next year, and as long as he's there he would do pretty much anything he can to keep me at the club," Clarke told Superfooty program Front and Square.

"I think I still have a lot to offer. I'm 25 and I would like to think I have three or four really good years in senior footy."

Clarke's knee injury came after extensive setbacks from hamstring complaints.

It occurred while playing an away match for the Saints' VFL affiliate Sandringham against Williamstown, when Western Bulldog-listed Wayde Skipper laid a strong tackle.

The diagnosis was a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

"It is frustrating, I was injured last year for most of the year, missed a lot of games, and unfortunately now I've got the ACL," said Clarke.

"Big Skipper from the Bulldogs, he ran me down in a tackle and as he slung me I landed on my knee at the same time, and I knew straight away something was up, and unfortunately it was the worst."

Clarke said he had questioned his future in the game.

"You have those doubts, the last three to four years I haven't been able to play a full season of footy," he said.

"I have always worked on my body, put on weight, lost weight, tried a lot of different things and felt I had the balance right this season, and was pretty confident and looking to break back in to the side."

Clarke said watching his teammates win their first 10 matches was difficult and exciting.

"At the start it was hard, because you feel the club is on the right track to do something special, and you never know what that might be, but I am happy for the boys," he said.

St Kilda's decision to leave in-form defender Jason Gram out of its senior line-up two weeks ago was in keeping with a zero-tolerance stance on the pursuit of professionalism, Clarke said.

"The club in the last two or three years has built a strong reputation on being as professional as you can and doing everything you can and doing everything right to play great footy," Clarke said.

"We are in a position where the players are going really well and we can't afford to lay back and take things easy."

One of the 5 things you may not know about Samantha Stosur
theage.com.au

Stosur barracks for St Kilda. This may have something to do with the fact that Nick Riewoldt, the Saints' captain, is a friend. They both went to Robina Primary School on the Gold Coast, and Riewoldt thought he was half-decent with a racquet until he was in grade seven. Stosur, then in grade five, beat him.

Rubbish result. The match was played on clay which is Rooey's worst surface.

Wasn't Alicia Molik a Saints fan too? "Close" mates with the G Train?

Hop on Leigh Montagna for Brownlow Medal

Mark Stevens | June 09, 2009 10:56pm

THE AFL's official statisticians have named Leigh Montagna as their Brownlow Medal bolter.

Using the formula that tipped Jimmy Bartel as runaway winner in 2007 and Adam Cooney as a top-three certainty last year, Champion Data has Montagna as the only challenger to Gary Ablett.

Champion Data has Montagna, St Kilda's most potent ball carrier, on 17 votes after 11 rounds.

Ablett is in front with a staggering 20 votes, despite missing two matches with a groin injury.

Given the statisticians' track record, Montagna's odds are likely to be slashed today.

Last night, TAB Sportsbet still had him at $21 to win and $6 to finish top three.

Get on it gamblers. :thumbsu:

Re: Media Thread

Get on it gamblers. :thumbsu:

I've got $10 each way at $23 and $6.50 at Centrebet.

I had $10 each way on BJ before the start of the season at $251 and $63 so he would still be my preferred option. ;)
