Re: Media Thread

You guys are slick - sign them up as sub-editors Saints (or at least learn your own players)!

Heard the Jack Stevens one a couple of times now, but had no idea on the other two.

Stuck in the middle
Garry Lyon | August 12, 2009

On any hallowed footy ground, it is the most hallowed part of all.

'OWNING the corridor' is one of those football terms that has become part of the game's vernacular.

It refers to what is widely accepted as the most valuable real estate in football - the centre of the ground, about the width of the square, from goal line to goal line.

Its value lies in the fact that it provides teams with the most attacking and effective avenue to goal. It opens up the playing field in such a way that opposition sides find it most difficult to defend.

The dangerous space is not restricted to one side of the ground but rather it provides the ball carrier, and the forward target, with the option to lead to any part of the attacking 50-metre arc.

AFL hits dead-end on switch

Jake Niall | August 12, 2009

St Kilda chief executive Michael Nettlefold confirmed last night that the AFL had informed the club that it would be playing on Sunday in the first week of the finals if it retained top spot. ''They've indicated if we were to finish first, we'd play it on a Sunday.''

Good. :)
What would make this better is we get an interstate side, at the dome.

No Benchy.

We want to play at the G. Many as games as possible. The Dome is dead to us after Rnd 21.

Re: Media Thread

But it's cold, and the chips are shitty. :(

Almost impossible for us to play a final at TD now anyway.

Re: Media Thread

If we can just transform the G into a Saturday Night version of the Dome...we got the flag already.

Any ideas?

We can all bring tarps, stitch them together and then run them over a wire frame to place that over the G?

Re: Media Thread

Don't usually mind Hirdy
More stuff like this though, and he might need to be called Captain Obvious

Saints, this is all that matters
ST KILDA is on the verge of becoming the first club since Collingwood in 1929 to go through the regular season undefeated.
But in the end, the only thing that should matter to the Saints is the last Saturday in September.

Saints, this is all that matters

Re: Media Thread

Can you find one article where he has told you something about St Kilda you didn't already know?

All the recently retired players will be picking splinters out of their arse after months of fence sitting. I'm pleased that Voss is coaching - he was one of the worst. Buckley too.

Sometimes we get ticked off at a journo (like a Sheahan or Caroline Wilson) but I'd much rather some analysis and interpretation than a whole bunch of Captain Obvious'.

At least Akermanis and Murphy (in his own quirky way) give some real insight into what's really going on - in amongst the spin doctoring of the clubs (Collingwood is shocking - you know Eddie is lying when his face starts looking like a squashed prune that's been in the sun too long).

Re: Media Thread

I don't have HD :p
I guess I'll have to get it sooner or later

Is Andrew Maher on that show though? I can't stand that bloke
I can't stand Robert Walls as a commentator, but when he was on OTC, he wasn't as bad

Re: Media Thread

Quartermain is fairly painful, and everything seems to revolve around Hawthorn.

Surprisingly, Walls is quite good - and seems to have realised that everyone is watching for his Navy Blue obsession (has toned it down of late, but Quarterbrain tries to fluff it up way too often).

The third panelist is a player (typically Lloyd, Harley or Richo). Think Darcy (who is excellent) has also been on there.

Guests can be OK - Cam Mooney recently was actually very good (thought he'd be a dud).

Love the format and they hit the key issues of the week. Well worth a watch for the sake of a digibox (you can also watch replays of the games broadcast on Ch 10 if you didn't tape it first time around).

They have the poker on too!

Mind you, that _ucking ridiculous "slam-ball" is also on.

Basketball with mini trampolines?
Remember seeing ads for that on Fuel TV or something. Might have been right after Bikini Beach

Yup.

I am impressed that you were able to remember anything about the commercials!

I think it just went with the general bouncing theme

Barry Hall said:
At last, umpires wrestle with off-ball treatment
IT'S just my luck that they finally have started to do something about it after I step away from the game, but ''hallelujah'' that the umpires' department has decided to do something about the off-the-ball treatment of key forwards.

http://www.theage.com.au/news/rfnew...fball-treatment/2009/08/13/1249756397387.html

Define irony: The master of off-the-ball sucker punches writing about off-the-ball treatment

Re: Media Thread

I think poor old Baz is confusing a backman having touch on his opponent (like Staker did one second bfore being knocked into the next week) with an elbow delivered with high force into your spine.

Maybe he thinks that because he got Goose from the front it was OK.

Yeah, Sydney has been real good for him. If he had of stayed with the Saints he might have done something silly and looked like a complete arse clown.

Re: Media Thread

Herald Sun (no link - sorry) had a flashback to 1999 when a player headcount was called.

Quite funny - supposedly Harvs paid out on Guy McKenna who called it but completely _ucked it up.

He was asked how he could be captain if he couldn't count to 20! Even now it gets under his skin - as he said "but I did advanced maths at school"!!!

The players were doing their best to put the umpire off as he was counting "1 ... 2 ... 3", and the picture shows the ump having a laugh. Spider was at the head of the queue in his white dreadies, so I can only imagine what he might have said.

The extra player was created in McKenna's mind due to an extra man in the Saints forward line. Who was his Eagles opponent?

None other than Fraser Gehrig.

Andrew Thompson was the Saints player interviewed, and even though he was one of the better players reckoned he couldn't really remember the headcount! Made an interesting comment, in that the Saints back then had a few teams within the team - but he couldn't see any of that with the current group.
