Is that Mad Dog?
I heard he's umpiring in a country league somewhere
Probably belting the players if they give him any lip

Oops, I meant :club:ing

Re: Media Thread

Meh, doesn't worry me. Bit late for a Grand Final rematch though.
I heard we're playing Sydney first up, again.
The AFL trying to manufacture another rivalry?

Yeah, I'm a bit behind, but just read it http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sp...o-meet-just-once/story-e6frexx0-1225788495221

The best match of last year, or one of the best, round 14. Saints v Geelong. One of the greatest games I have ever, -ever- watched. And then the GF was also impressive. No wonder the big wigs want to put the match later, they will also rev the heck out of it, and get as many ads in as possible during the game, in which they are hoping for record numbers of viewers.

Also, and brace yourself, because it's conspiracy theory time, on my behalf. But it just seems things are against the Saints in GF/finals preparation.... this year, we played the premiership favorites once, and how often did we visit the MCG before finals? Compared to say, Collingwood?
Now 2010, again, play the premiership favorites once, and not till round 13.
Just seems we can't be given much in the way of preparation for Finals.
/conspiracy theory.

Re: Media Thread

Our decision to play Dempster as a defensive forward (partly to give Riewoldt and Koschitzke more space) looks stupid in the light on this news. We needed another forward target anyway imo (like Goddard), doubly so if Riewoldt was restricted.

Re: Media Thread

....Dempster in his forward role was spotted up and strong ont he lead, his problem wasd that in kicking for goal he uuterly ballsed up 90% of his shots, in that regard it was a fine choice to pick for that extra forward option, but wishful for that extra scoring option.

As much as I would have loved Goddard up there, not on that particular day no. In wet weather footy with a heavy footy you need to capitalise on your scoring shots, this inevtibely is a 2 stage process in;

#1: Maximising your chances with the initial kick into scoring range.
#2: Slotting the goal from the possession when in scoring range.

Goddards strength is his depth and precision with his kicking where Gram is that hit and hope type, as hayes was shut out so too would be others if we had one designated kicker. This is probably why Geary was next in line for a call up (albeit an entirely different reason why) because he is also not shabby by foot when he has it and can kick goals to allow a mid to be released forward. But yeah, Dempster, was a fine choice, just was always goign to struggle kicking it precisely (also remembering he was coming off a full knee reco midway though the year and most players feel their way through the games when reintroduced mid season.)

Re: Media Thread

Saw this via SS. A great read, paticularly for the "more mature" posters :

http://insidefootballonline.com/rhysjones.html

Included lines such as :

Burnsy had everything, he was a bit lazy and didn’t do too much training. When his man would run off he would say “Pick him up and I’ll pick up yours”.

I remember one day at Carlton he said Joff, don’t go far away because I owe Jimmy Buckley one. He broke my nose last year. So one, two, three quarters have gone by and nothing has happened. Then I’m right up at the far end and I hear the crowd going off and here is Burnsy at the other end, he’s decked Buckley.

Ian Stewart and Tony Jewell coming up to us one day and asking about the hoses. They tried to get the sprinkler system going and when they adjusted it, it wouldn’t start. But then later on the system came on in the middle of the night. We got down there and the Richmond cheer squad was putting sand on the ground.

Re: Media Thread

Found some amusement in TheAge today:

St Kilda honoured Sam Fisher's 100th game in an unusual way in round four. The Saints' goal sequence across the four quarters was 5, 3, 4, 5. And 5345 is the postcode of the town of Fisher in South Australia.

No wonder the Magpies got slaughtered by St Kilda in the season's only Monday night game, in round seven. Magpies v Saints is an anagram of ''massive pasting''.

Re: Media Thread

SAINT NICK?

Word has it in Melbourne that former Swan Nick Davis is to be asked to train with St Kilda with a view to the Saints drafting him. The 29-year-old played 168 games for Sydney and Collingwood before being axed by the Swans at the end of last year.

What? Nicky's American adventure didn't work out? Shame.

Oh shit, I misread that. I thought we had already asked him and he said no. But it looks as if we are about to..Well shit, what can you say?

Re: Media Thread

Davo and Ross Lyon are quite close. If you guys are having another tilt at a flag this year (and I think you are) it wouldn't hurt to have him on your list (assuming the intention is he's a depth player, if he performs well enough to make your 22 then all the better).

Re: Media Thread

Is there a rule against too many Nick's on a team or should I change my username to Nick2Nick2Nick.

If he is fit he could possibly find a spot in our forward line.
Sydney had a Jared, Jarred and Jarrad take the field last year for a game against Hawthorn, who included a Jarryd.

I can't recall it happening, but I can only hope there was a turnover in there somewhere so there was a Jared to Jarred to Jarrad to Jarryd.

Re: Media Thread

Pretty sure Mulkearns was with us during our horror injury runs. Safe to say he hasn't been the difference in the turnaround. So not too fussed.

If we are going to take a washed up, last tilt forward, can we have Robbo instead? And don't let the fact he was delisted from Melbourne cloud your judgement. Still has value.

His Achilles were stuffed weren't they? And I'd rather we take Rhan Hooper actually, probably has more upside / value than the two of them combined.

Re: Media Thread

Hooper sucks, wouldnt want to go near him, worst kick in the league. Dont want any of those guys. Not like we need them.

Im pretty sure he was pretty right this year. He got dropped for trying to kick a goal on his back and of course failed miserably. Consequently he never returned. In the end he really was no use to Melbourne, yes he would've kicked them 2-3 goals a game but he would've been taking up someone's spot who will play in Melbourne's next finals campaign.

Sooper Hooper? Do. Not. Want.
He apparently forgot to turn up to a Richmond training session. Shit attitude. Can't believe Brisbane were paying him 350k, still had a year to run on his contract as well. Volumes spoken.

Looks like Goose might be a hawk. Nice. :)
I actually like Hawthorn, hopefully he gets to his 100.

And Irish lad David Moran is officially training with us too.

Robbo providing forward pressure? I think not Benchy.
