still can't believe we didn't take one last year

Hill or Rich were always going to be the options for pick 3 so it would have to have been a KPP instead of Ballantyne or Suban.
I was surprised at the time too with Jackson Trengove and McKernan slipping. Trengove didn't play and McKernan played a couple of games - can't tell how good they are going to be yet. Most of the talls that showed a bit - Hurley, Schoenmakers, Vickery - were taken earlier than our second pick.

of all last years draftees who would have you forgone? personally i wouldnt trade any of hill, suban, clarke, ruffles or ballantyne for anything, and as for hall or bucovaz, both were taken so late that most of the prospective key position players were gone. thats just my view

I wouldn't trade any of them either because they are "ours" now and we love them. It just seemed strange to go into a draft with 8 picks and not take 1 KPP. We don't have a single KPP under 22 on our main list which I find staggering

Maybe they figured Clarke has the potential to spend a lot of time as a KPF while Sandi is still around?

Maybe. He doesn't look like a natural forward but I guess that could be an option. Bucovaz was also touted as a KPP but he seems way too small

I guess the positive for us is having power KPP's isn't as important as it used to be. We can probably do OK with Pav, Johnson and Mayne as our main targets

Agree - aside from Drum in 2005, we have not used a high draft pick on a KPP since Ryan Murphy (12) in 2003:eek:.
We traded for Tarrant in 2006 because Schanolly didn't believe in drafting young talls and preferred an established KPP. The 2006 draft was quite strong in promising KPPs and we blew the Collard selection and landed Mourish at pick 89:(.

2006 Draft

Pick 31 - Clayton Collard

Pick 32 - Kurt Tippett

Kill me now

yeah now that is very depressing, imagine tippett in our team right now, would make our midfield look a lot better as well with a massive tippett leading at them

You are kidding, that is a massive error by Connolly/Smart
How?

You're talking about a guy who was talented but had mental issues versus a guy who'd played one year of football and was 2 years older than everyone. Look at the rest of the draft. Are North Melbourne ruing that they took Hansen at 3 instead of Tippett?

probably

We were always going to pick up Collard..

He seemed a steal at pick 31 also. Their may be some of his video's floating around on you tube still, take a look. He had a heap of talent, just wasnt to be..

No doubt Collard was elite junior talent but the club knew it was a gamble because of his personality/issues.

Rest assured if Harvey was in charge we would have been much less likely to have taken Collard.

I'll admit that I was very happy we picked him up at the time, but hindsight proved it to be a big mistake. A mistake most clubs realised at the time, he slid for a reason and certainly did not fit the mould of what Harvey wants in a footballer.

Whether we would have taken Tippett, I doubt it, as Smart has proven himself a poor judge of talent overall. There are plenty who slipped through who look decent players without being superstars (Krakouer, Dick, Hill, Moss, Riemers, Gray, Warren, Hogan). Adelaide nailed it with Tippett and MacKay at 48.

which is why I'm liking Harvey/Bond because they seem to add more weight to the mental side of the game.

Bingo! I was about to say the same thing.

Finally we seem to have leaders at the club that understand how important the attitude and application side of AFL footy is. That was probably CC's biggest weakness.

I have a feeling we are going to take Collard with our first pick ...personally I hope we grab a kid named Tippett.

Basketball background and not much footy (yes I can hear you all scream) but I have seen him play basketball and he has the athletic ability to make it.

Trust me give him a couple of year and he will kick over 50 goals a season and poll around 7 Brownlow votes ....Collard will be lucky to be on another teams rookie list by then.

but hey that is just my opinion ...bookmark this and re-post it when Collard wins the Norm Smith in 2010.

Praise here < > please.

dont know why, but i reckon if you mated adam campbell adn clancee pearce together, that is what you would get.... unsure on him. played will in that game though

Haha:thumbsu:
I reckon Temel looked slowish and not overly agile - maybe his size and strength makes him look good at U/18 level but not sure he'd make an AFL KPP. He seems to be well down the order in draft terms.

We have a stay-at-home contested forward type in Sibosado. Would rather look for an Athletic CHF type that will complement Sibo instead.
