With regards to deledio and his midfield counterparts-

If the past is anything to go by a strong midfield can only benefit the group. E.g the fab four for any of brisbane, west coast and now geelong. Almost every player would have been worth owning during their period of dominance..

thoughts on des headland. i know hes a huge risk but seems a pretty good price(260,000 odd). can he play 22 games.can he average 80 for the year. definetly can find the footy when fit.

Guys i got a tough choice to make....

J.Selwood Vs M.Boyd

Both players valued at similar prices and both with huge scoring potential.

Selwood is about to play is 3rd year of footy and is already classed as a gun midfielder. He goes in hard and racks up the possessions (like most geelong players). However with these trends he is a high priority tag option. He IMO is 2nd behind Ablett for the priority tag and this could weaken his ability to score well depending on the side he faces. But even being tagged he still manages to find the ball and signs suggest he is only going to get better.

Boyd on the other hand isn't high up on the tagging priority lists at all, infact Boyd is considered a tagger. He like Selwood is bloody consistent and scores well even if the dogs are winning or losing (a good trait to have). Last year he finished 9th for overal points (2332, average of 93.4). So he is a proven scorer. With West gone and Higgins stepping up in the midfield i feel Boyd will produce a similar result to 08, if not better. He has also been good so far in the Nab cup games with scores of 96 and 83. Boyd will also be alot less popular than Selwood and being more unique can be great to get an extra edge against other teams.

Wrong thread, but Selwood. Brilliant end to last year, showed he can score even if the Cats start losing with a 100+ GF, and in his third season will probably start getting more game time, which cancels out the possible effect of tags a bit.

John Anthony? Been thinking about it for a while. Should play in front of Rocca after that performance. Takes lots of grabs and converts. Set for a big year?

Rocca will not be playing in the 2nds very often, so Jack won't play in front of him.

Ok a serious answer, Anthony is a bit of jack of all trades, he will not get a permanent spot in the forwards, you have the likes of Rusling/Reid/Rocca to come into the side yet, well 2 of them are certs for most weeks. Soon as Rusling does a shoulder jump on Jack then if you must.
At 221k your better of with one of the dearer rookies.

Chris Masten.

Mid Priced ($306k) and has played very well in all pre-season games this year (including top scoring for WC with 85ish against Collingwood and another good game against Adelaide with 2 goals). Played 9 games last year but was managed with groin problems and got very little TOG, especially in the midfield. Still managed to average 69 though which is very good for a first year player.

He should spend a lot of time in the midfield this year and I think he is definately going to be a future DT gun but is he worth it this year or a bit over-priced? Otherwise is there anyone else in his price-range or should I look for a rookie/bargain player and upgrade someone else to a keeper?

Apparently he should be back for round 1/2 but I need a replacement just incase.

What about Houli from essendon? i reckon hes got a pretty big upside. played well against collingwood last night without getting a big dt score, but increased TOG during the season proper with some Essendon mid guns out might give him a chance of getting the ball more. and essendon mid isnt the best going around so i reckon he, like simon buckley, is one that could avg 85 this year and could may well turn into a keeper.

Cheers KH.
I was actually considering Houli but I can now afford a player around the 370k mark.
Any suggestions?
Also, Houli was a good player this year but he comes at a heavy price this year.. so I think he is a bit overpriced.

370k can get you a select and forget keeper. Find someone durable with a bit of upside and save a trade :thumbsu:
