Ok, the St. Patty's U13 B's selection committee have nominated their best 22 (pre-draft!!!):D

Here goes,

B Whelan Garland Warnock
HB Rivers Martin Buckley
C Morton Bruce Green
HF Davey Miller Bate
F Sylvia Robertson Maric
FO Jamar McLean McDonald
IN Grimes Frawley P. Johnson
Jones

Not much height in the forward-line but i couldn't justify picking 'Juice' at this stage. Hopefully players like Davey, Green, Bate, Morton & Maric can start further up the field and push hard up forward into open spaces to provide alternative marking options inside the 50 when we get the ball with Miller and Robbo providing the focal points - may not be ideal but its all we got ATM...:(

Head's best 22 for 2009 at full strength:

HF: C Bruce, B Miller, M Bate
F: A Davey, R Robertson, B Green

I/C: C Sylvia, J Moloney, J McDonald, M Jamar

Others:

Watts will play in the NAB cup barring injury. Based on that and training he may be in the side come round 1. Robbo won't be there for round 1 though I'm pretty sure.

He'll be playing for Brighton Grammar probably, if he's on a Scholarship???

I don't know when APS football starts, but I'm not sure that we'll see too much of Watts (assuming we draft him of course...) in the regular season:(

Forget '09, I'm lookin to the future...

B: Garland Martin Bartram

HB: Petterd Rivers Frawley

*Bolded players will hopefully be replaced/upgraded through use of Draft Picks.

Bartram - Needed to fill the small defender role and he's probably the best option currently on list, maybe Bell will recapture his form and play that role for us, if not then Cheyney could. But at the moment unfortunately its Bartram.
Moloney - Probably need a quick midfielder in there with good skills to compliment McLean and Jones.
Miller and Newton - As hard as he tries, Miller is a long war from a premier CHF or FF, while Newton needs to work a lot harder. A high draft pick in the form of Jack Watts will save one of these positions, the other maybe helped by Pick 17/19, 35 or one in the '09 Draft.
Jamar/Spencer - Spencer is a long shot if he comes on while Jamar is workman like but your goung to need something better to win premierships. Ideally would like Johnson to play as a second ruck with our number ruckman coming from either Picks 17 or 19 this year.

Cheers.

Alot of people said Morton would barely play a game this year so i still hold my hopes for Watts:thumbsu:

I guess it is a bit different with him doing school and all, but i really hope to see him out there.

i think Morton/Watts are totally different cases.
Playing on a wing as a skinny fella you can get away with, playing uncontested footy.
As a full-forward, or even a 3rd tall or whatever, Watts will have someone on him all the time and opponents will try to crunch our new glamour boy at every opportunity.

Watts will play some games next year, i think like Maric this year, it wil depend largely on our draw the less sunday and interstate games we get the better his chances are of playing more AFL footy next yr.

Maric played quite a few games for Sandy this year, Sunday games too.

will you guys try and pick up ryan okefee in the psd or not?

No great player but not what we need at the moment, plus we are only playing 92.5% on the TTP to reduce our debt (we do have the approval from the AFL to go over it to get someone like O'Keefe) but it won't be in our interests

I think Sylvia will play in the guts next year, hopefully taping his stomach is working and he can build a decent fitness base(shock to here Jim say that only 50% of players started the 08 preseason without injury concerns) . I think he will spend 40% in the middle 40% in the Fwd line and 20% resting

Theres a big step up from AFL and VFL in terms of pace and phsycality hence more recovery is required after an AFL game than VFL.

What I was saying is that footy comes first for these guys, if there's a sunday game on and they're picked to play, they'll play regardless of whether they'll miss some school for recovery or something of the like.

Love the look of the backline. Flexible, young and bound to improve further.
Forward line a concern, esp if Robbo or Miller don't fire.
Midfield with plenty of options, lacking pace and polish but not the worst I've seen.

It is actually quite heartening to see in my team (as with most posted) that players as good/promising as Petterd, Moloney, Maric, Bell etc are all only emergencies. Makes me have hope that if we get a full team on the park next season we will at least be ultra-competitive.

I don't think you guys are in such a bad position to be honest.

I've put together a side that could play a minimum 6 more years (i think)

I haven't included pick 17 and 19 from the upcoming draft which i think is even more cause for optimism as 17 and 19 this year could be guns.

I think your back line stacks up fairly well.
-Still a lot of upside in Garland and from what i have seen he looks to be a super talent.
-Stefan Martin could be a gun too if he can improve his skills and knowledge of the game. He is almost like an irish recruit and has shown that he has the athletic attributes to stick with some of the biggest and best.
-Warnock is honest
-Rivers is very good when not injured.

In the midfield Jones and Mclean are good workhorses with Mclean having the ability to be a top class player.

Morton will be a running machine for the next ten years and is a good replacement for Bruce.

Grimes was very very highly rated as an under 18 and may be your future captain.

Maric, without a preseason, showed what he could do in his second game. 25 quality disposals. He will be the best kick in the AFL. I have heard it from Calder staff that he has incredible strenght through the core and apparently had done very little fitness work as a junior as he played 2 to 3 games of footy a week so trained minimally. A couple of preseason and he will be a star.

A forward line of J Watts, Aaron Cornelius, Davey, Wonamerri, Sylvia, Maric. That's a lot of quality (potentially). Throw in Millar as a third tall and Robbo in a pocket for the next couple of years and its not bad.

If I were down at Demonland (wherever that is these days) I would take Watts, and at least one key forward with pick 17/19 this year. Play the kids next year and try and get them experience. Finish in the bottom two and have a top 6 pick and then reassess. If Maric, Grimes and Morton develop accordingly and you have a very good draft this year there could be a very quick turn around. Especially as top sides who are in the process of sliding over the next two years will find it difficult to get anything good.

You have two PJ's there, and I'd rather have Rivers and Martin both in the side (at the expense of Warnock if need be).

Other than that, good effort. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Thanks for your great post Bigstyletiger. :thumbsu:.

You sound like you really know your footy, pity we coulden't adopt you onto this site for more of your insightful comments.
