2009?

Equally, Cousins could come to the Pies and then there could be Stuart Dew parallels.

A former premiership player at another club re-enters the fray of AFL in search of flag no. 2. Despite on-going health concerns in their year away from elite competition, and dodgy hamstrings, they become a driving force in achieving the ultimate success with their new teammates.

It's a stretch Sampler but great optimism all the same:thumbsu:

Great work BUT if you can fit in Ben Ried parallels with Buddy and Maxwell parallels with Hodge it would be greatly appreciated.:o:thumbsu::thumbsu:

and don't forget- the last time Hawthorn played (and won) a granny against Geelong. Both teams had down years the next year and the pies won the flag. I will take anything to cheer me up.

If 2008 turns out to be like 1989, I will be really looking forward to 2009. :thumbsu:

At 2 minutes before 3/4 time it was looking like a genuine possibility.
Interesting that for 1990, 2 quality midfielders in Francis and Russell arrived at the club. 2 quality midfielders is precisely what we need for 2009 and if we could find a ruckman with physical presence, then maybe we would be in with a show.

Hold on, aren't we chasing two quality mids in Cousins and Kerr?:thumbsu:

As Kissstephanie pointed out on another thread there is also the Hawthorn 6th last year year premiers this year parrelal. This is getting twighlt zone freaky.

Yes, and both sides beat Adelaide in the first week of the finals before losing in the semi-final to the team that would go on to play Geelong's opponent in the Grand Final.

You can do this all day long, and it amounts to nothing. It doesn't mean we win the premiership, and it doesn't mean that there's some kind of supernatural power at work.

It's coincidence.

I was clearly being a smart arse

It wasn't just a reply to you, it's the whole thread. It's silly.

Interesting that Kerr was spotted on Grand Final eve dining with Chris Judd, Greg Swann and Stephen Icke. I wonder if Andrew Walker and pick 6 will be on the Eagles dining table very soon???????
Yeah, I reckon West Coast would be super tempted to trade the contracted superstar Daniel Kerr for Andrew Walker and a pick.

Hi and sorry to barge into your thread like this, but as I am new to bigfooty cant create threads yet. Just wanted to point out that Paul Licuria is a fortune teller...Got home sunday after being hung over, and was talking with my aunt (shes a big collingwood fan) and she pointed out something interesting in the herald sun.
They had a page spread getting tips from football players and some celebrities, however only one got it spot on the money...Paul Licuria, he tipped the hawks by 26! So just wanted to ask if any people here happen to know PL could they ask who will be in next years grand final and who will win and by how much...think norm smith and brownlow might be pushing it...but want to get a bet on at good odds hehe.

Anyways sorry to deviate from the thread topic, and good luck to the pies in '09, also wanted to say I think Dale Thomas would make a great captain in a couple of years time...

Cheers.

if u ask me russel and francis were the inspiration and nucleus to our premiership team and i cant help but draw parallels between them and thomas (another blondy like francis) and pendlebury (russel). it gives me chills wen i watch the 1990 win and i can only imagine what our next premiership will be like. one things for sure, at collingwood we sure no how to celebrate, and for all the critisism we cop from everyone else, it will be worth it wen we get our hands on the cup.

Carlton won't give up Walker,
its not logical,
he'll be a star
That was the illogical part? I thought it was where WCE accepted Walker as half of a deal for Kerr... especially given they'd already gleefully accepted one dud top-five selection from Carlton in Kennedy. If they're so keen on Walker, we should have held on to Egan for his trade value.

Don't rate Kennedy TRS? Showed plenty in limited time last year I thought. Including schooling Brown in the game against us despite shithouse delivery.

He'll take a few marks if he finds himself in front, simply because he's a big unit and is hard to get around to spoil. I think he'll make a good, ordinary player well below his #4 status.

Its true he did, but for someone of his size he really doesnt take enough contested or pack marks he gets most of his marks on leads and hardly any above head

Will be a good player, but i see a more chris tarrant type player than the big contested marking forward he was said to be

Yeah, that's a fair call.

I tend to think that with good delivery, he'll be a very good player. Brown was step-for-step with him on a lot of those marks, and still couldn't spoil. And Brown's not small.

Like Brown though, needs to lose some poundage. Too heavy for what he is.

I am honestly confused at the non rating of Kennedy and the rating of Dawes. I think they are fairly similar prospects with fairly similar strengths and weakness's Kennedy probably does what is required of his type a bit better and Dawes has the ability to take a pack mark which looks great but I don't think you can make a career simply based around taking pack chest marks.

I dont think anyone is really under rating kennedy but he isnt the player promised pre draft.

Kennedy is just a lead up player, where as dawes can do both lead and pack mark ( he out lead gwilt and blake and beat Hudghton in one on one contests all in his first game)

Being able to pack mark especially at that size should be a given not, an optional extra that is where kenney falls down, although he can still do it very well abd be a good player but i feel dawes will be the better long term option
