Umm, why would we trade our best player in Sylvia, just as he's starting to peak?

I was asked what his value is worth and I said we wouldnt want to trade him but if we were offered something good we would consider it.

Ill ask you the same question SA - what would you trade Sylvia for?

Not the SA you were refering to but I'll chime in cos I got a strong opinion here.

For a team like ours, with a lot of young players (<50 games) with potential and a core group of older players approaching retirement, players of Col's age and callibre are just about priceless. I certainly would not be willing to trade him out for any combination of draft picks alone, as the time it would take to get those picks up to where Col is at and the gamble inherent with any draft pick would negate the benefits (IMHO). I'd go as far as to say it would have to be a player and a top 5 pick at minimum, and the player would have to be 22-26 years old and have more than just potential.

Maybe I'd trade him for Roo Junior, maybe...

Col is a hard one and not the type of player i was refering to as trade bait, at his best he is indespencible in our forward/midfield. How often has this been lately?

This time last season Butcher was still a top 3 type prospect and went at what 7-8? so all you darling fans may get that chance with our first pick and he sounds like a likely type and fit to our forward line....

It is early for this type of talk though guys especially when we are winning games and played well on the weekend. although i do enjoy it

Maybe use bate as bait? our first pick and bait to gain those 3-4 pick space upgrade and secure that top player that there are so few of in each draft?

We can't afford to lose Sylvia, in my view.

I don't think he's been playing fit for much of these season, and if some of the reports in the papers are to be believed, that toe issue had been bothering him for around 6 weeks before he had it properly treated.

He just looked so much better yesterday, both in terms of his movement and the way in which he was kicking the football. Moreover, his inclusion made us look a lot stronger as a team, and if we were to lose him or another important senior player, I think it would create a rather large void for us, and one which we most likely wouldn't be able to fill for quite some time.

Yeah, McKenzie the only guy likely to be upgraded (based on form up until now), with Spencer a chance after mid next year if he shows something...

Spencer may get an end of season elevation along with Jordie but atm I am being conservative. All I'll say at this stage is that I wouldn't be surprised one way or the other.

PJ in trouble IMO although I acknowledge there are still 7 games to go.

Sorry i misinterpreted.

Frankly I wouldn't trade him at all. Seems like he has passion for the club, is getting his body right and has all the tools to become an elite midfielder over the next five years all going well.

But i guess you want trade value don't you, would have to be a potential elite midfielder at least 21 years old with a strong body, plus a reasonable tall forward. I don't think draft picks are that beneficial to us after our drafting of recent years.

i looked in the contracts thread and you are 100 percent correct, strange even discussing it. Sylvia doesnt seem to want to go anywhere either

Gorringe sounds like a future star and there are some questions starting to be raised about Darlings size etc.

Gorringe looks great! I just worry about taking a ruckman with a first round selection. They are just so hit and miss, but his tap work is so developed for a junior its hard to ignore. I can't wait to see Gawn playing a few games later this year, and if he looks alright i'd think i'd rather the club look to further boost our ruck stocks with older rookies.

I still think another KPF should be our primary objective this year. Mainly because there seems to be quite a few good options. We took 4 mids in the top 20 last year and 4 out of 5 picks in 2008 were also smalls. Further more we will assumable have to use our first rounder in 2012 to get Jack Viney. Basically I think in the next 2 years we really need to take a couple of KPP early in the draft.

Gorringe / Gawn could play out of the goalsquare via rotations. Both have shown they can kick goals when they go forward. Jamar to a lesser extent but he is a good ruckman.

I would prefer a quality tall forward as well but if Gorringe is still around at our pick it would be hard to find a better player. And at least he can be used as a forward as well.

I can see us taking another running player like Atley or Jacobs if we stick to best available.

Hes 1 cm shorter than Fev I think. Its a bit of a long bow to draw if we're hoping he has that level of talent.

You could also say Darling is shorter than Bate, Dunn, Bruce, Garland, and Morton.

Still I would be satisfied if we land him - he is good.

In some sense, being a KPF is about the way in which you play, as opposed to your height.

For instance, Bate is taller than Fev and the same height as Pavlich, but we all know he isn't a KPF because he simply has a set of attributes which suits the hit-up HFF role more so than the CHF or FF position.

From what I've seen of Darling, which is admittedly not a great deal, he looks like a KPF in the way he plays, and more importantly, he also looks to be a very talented footballer.

the way he uses his body is very KPP, has good tackling pressure and his size makes me think he will be able to have a fairly imediate impact at a KP post... just what we need
