Who ever gets Carlton weeks 1-3 will get a cheap win.

And Hawthorn round 1 would be handy as well.
Nah only top 7 teams will. Carton won't need Judd to beat richmond and essendon who they will most likely play rd 1 and 3. Although rd 2 might be a really tough one especially if its a top 4 team!

I hope we play a home game against St.Kilda in Round 1, and that Andrew Lovett is part of the Saints side.

That way, Lovett might realise that if playing in a premiership was his sole reason in leaving Essendon, rather than the money, then when he sees the premiership flag being unfurled, he realises that he could've played in a premiership this year if money wasn't a factor, like he seems to claim it wasn't. :p

My guess is that the GF Replay in round 1 WILL be a saints home match at the G as they will get 70k+ - and the CATS will be happy to do so because it leaves them to stick with tradition in unfurling the 2009 flag down at kardinia park!!

and as for the mighty hawks and essendon in round 1 - this would be great...but lets hope it is a few weeks later so both teams are at full strength and rid of rust for another cracker!!!

surely the AFL will add theatre to round 4 with Brisbane coming down to take on the Blues in Judds first match back haha!!!

A few things i want to see with the fixture regarding Geelong's 2010 draw

1. HOME game for GF rematch(0 from 2 so far:mad:)...also keep GF rematch in R1.
2. Play either or both Collingwood/Essendon twice (i think next to no chance of that happening though)
2. v Essendon at the MCG (again, next to no chance)
3. no back to back interstate trips like last two seasons(even if the mid season break is between)
4. most Skilled Stadium games on Saturday like this year:thumbsu:
5. No home games against the Dogs\Saints at Etihad.
6. All three Melbourne based home games at the MCG(not sure if this is contractually possible)

And a few others
1. Scrap the term "rivalry round". You dont need such a lame publicity stunt for a round of footy. Spread the rivalry games over the rounds because clearly Saints/Dogs is no rivalry compared to say Bombers/Hawks or Pies/Blues:rolleyes:
2. Collingwood travel 5 times next year like the rest of us Victorian teams have to. Heck even Essendon get five interstate trips in certain years and at their best they are just as big a draw as the Pies.
3. As suggested leave round 22 date of games unscheduled until a month out from September. It would be nice for the wellbeing of clubs to be considered when the fixture is being drawn up for a change.
4. Scrap the Sunday twilight game (HA! would never happen i know) and forget about Monday night football
5. Go back to the old style "everyone plays each other once in the first 15 rounds" routine. And then spread the last 7 rounds as you wish. It's the fairest way and the best indicator to how your team is going by mid-July.

WCE v Brisbane on Sat night in R1 @ the Gabba.
Freo get a home game on ANZAC Day.

this is a good point.
I dont see why the AFL doesnt make full benefit of Days like ANZAC day and Queens Birthday holidays.
Keep existing ESSvCOLL and MELBvCOLL games and add a night game on both days i.e. Freo v StK at Subi for ANZAC and Port v Haw for Queens. Try and make a traditiion out of those fixtures or something like that

That's a good call. It didn't cross my mind, but I'm guessing you mean catching them early would catch them with a new structure and players still getting acquainted with players' styles/idiosyncrasies.:thumbsu:

...DOH! Noooooow I get it... The whole Judd pressure point / Buddy's bumping indiscretion thingy.

i'm interested in your rationale as to why it's humorous?

didn't play enough good sides perhaps? 5 of the other 7 top 8 sides twice in 2009 seems difficult enough to me. including "home" games v other top 4 contenders st kilda and the dogs at their home ground where the advantage is clearly greater than that enjoyed by any of the mcg tenants

perhaps more interstate games you say? travelled 4 times in 09 and won them all. missed out on away games v freo and port, so in effect we missed out on 2 victories by playing only 4 interstate games

missed out on return game in melb v weagles, played port freo roos rich once opnly, meaning we played 5 of bottom 7 once only

i'm interested to hear how the above is any easier than the draw of another melb based club

I can't believe it but I'm going to agree with Collingwood fans.

Firstly, the maximum games you can play against non-Victorian sides is 6. If any of the other Victorian clubs give up their home state advantage to play in Tasmania, Canberra or Darwin, thats there problem not Collingwoods.

Secondly, everyone wants to play a home game in Melbourne against Collingwood. Well, hello, there ain't enough rounds to do it.

Thirdly, I'd be more than happy for Collingwood not to come to AAMI to play the Crows.:p

5. No home games against the Dogs\Saints at Etihad.

We would all like that, but when they play 15 games a year at Etihad then they will always get them

2. Collingwood travel 5 times next year like the rest of us Victorian teams have to. Heck even Essendon get five interstate trips in certain years and at their best they are just as big a draw as the Pies.

Actually most teams usually travel 4 times a year to play the 6 Interstate sides, of course we travel less because no Melbourne team wants to play us interstate and we dont sell home games

But every year we play 4 away games, some teams only play 3, some teams may play 5, plenty of others play 4, but we always remain at 4, its consistent

If Vlad wasn't so easily criticised already, he would have Collingwood play the Crows in Round 1 at AAMI Stadium, (45 minute flight from Melbourne) then have them stick around Adelaide for a week to play the Power at AAMI Stadium in Round 2. Afterwards, Collingwood play the other 20 games of the season at the MCG, 11 home games, plus 9 away games against Victorian opponents. If the Pies are good enough, they would never have to leave the MCG after Round 2 and should win the flag.

Collingwood = $$$

Well that myth got busted quick smart. :thumbsu:

Just simply can't see why the AFL would limit the crowd at Etihad when it should sell out the place.

It's probably already been mentioned, but in '08 it was Port Adelaide that had it at their home in round 1. Hawthorn got to unveil the '08 flag in front of us while we had to do our '07 flag against Melbourne in round 3.

I was at the game last year and it was cringeworthy at best.

The flag should be done at the celebrations the day after the game. I mean there were like 3-4 players who were lined up in a haw jumper and they didn't even play in the GF.

I can definitely see the point some are trying to get across about the Collingwood lack of travel factor with regard to other melbourne based clubs selling home games and i agree, not Pies fault and every game Collingwood play against a victorian team it SHOULD be in melbourne, no agrument there as its an obvious draw card.

I am more getting at, when was the last time they played two away games at Subi or AAMI in one season? I dont have a problem with say Geel, NM, Haw or whoever travelling 5 times (occasionally 6 for teams like NM, WB) to play away interstate games against interstate clubs most years so long as everyone else does as well.

I do realise that alot of us non-Collingwood people rely on them to provide us with big home crowds, which they usually do and we love them for it, and every year every team requests to AFL such a thing to happen but its getting to the point where you can almost put your house on Collingwood not drawing more than 4 interstate away games
against interstate clubs. 13,14 or even 15 games at the MCG, no problem with that at all, just the travel factor.

The AFL love to talk about equity with the draw but in this instance it clearly is not.

I will be the first on this board eating humble pie (no pun intended) if the draw shows me otherwise when it comes out.

TBH does anyone actually think it would make the difference between us making top four or not. We have beaten every interstate team the last time we played them away except Freo.

We play in every state, ie Qld, NSW, SA, WA every year. I can't imagine another trip to Adel would have a large difference to where we finish.

Why does the opening game have to be Carlton Vs Richmond. Last years bottom 4 team playing a team who just traded there superstar full forward. Hardly watering at the mouth for that one.

To have a blockbuster involving Richmond, you need to schedule it in Round 1 when the Tiger fans still hold some hope for the season.

Was speaking to the Brisbane Lions membership department yesterday who told me that they will be getting the draw on October 14th.
I believe clubs are given a copy of the draw 2 weeks before the public so that any issues they might have can possibly be addressed. Usually the AFL site and the papers will run a story a couple of days prior to let people know that it will be coming out. Considering its the day before and there is nothing on either site, I'm tipping we wont see it for another 2 weeks.
