This is going to be a great final and the AO organisers would be very happy with the outcome. Fed played an amazing semi final and has shown great form throughout the tournament. He was forced to lift his game straight from round 1 against Andreev when he lost the 1st set in that match. Since then he has looked on and will be hard to beat.

Murray has also had an excellent tournament, his best grand slam performance without a doubt. He has only lost 1 set through the tournament and the way he played against Nadal was amazing. It was the best I had seen Murray play. I think with the semi final, he wasn't firing from the start and I think that could have been a result of the 1/4 final against Nadal, which in his mind he would have set himself thinking it was like a final. It had a final intensity.

I am hoping that Murray can bring his 1/4 form again to the final. I am actually going to pick the upset and say Murray will win. Fed has lost 3 slam finals in 5 sets, and I think that is what it will take for Murray to win. Murray in 5.

Should be a good match. Hopefully Murray plays aggressive like he did against Nadal or else it might be over quick.

Anyways, I will be going for Murray!!

It was against Tsonga who and I'll put this bluntly..is terrible. He plays 1 good match in 20. Murray will do more to trouble Federer with his variety. However he MUST serve volley 30% of the time to mix it up to even have a chance at beating Fed.

Yes, if Murray is aggressive he has a big chance of knocking off Federer. Using the serve and volley like he did against Nadal would be hugely advantageous for him, but I'm not convinced that he won't go in with a defensive mindset. If he does, he won't get close to Federer, particularly if Federer is in red hot form like he was last night.

I don't look at Federer's last match as frankly it was against a useless Frenchman. He would have beaten Tsonga playing blindfolded!

As for the Murray match, variety is the key to beating Federer. It is well known that the players taht have troubled Federer have been serve volleyers as Federer likes to dominate from the baseline and you can't with a guy serve volleying as it requires you to hit winners off serves. Murray has nothing to lose, so he should go for his shots.

I actually think Murray has more to lose than Fed. Fed has the record now, so the pressure is off in a big way. Whereas Murray is the so called best player without a slam, and he has massive pressure on his shoulders to break his slam duck.

Fed is a brilliant defender who can attack so quickly. One of his major weapons. Murray is similar, excellent defensively, but can attack. Just a matter of who can do it better on the night. I think Murray can do it.

Also there serves on crucial points is a key. Murray served brilliantly whenever faced with pressure against Nadal the other night. If he can do that again, he has a big shot.

It wouldn't have mattered who he played last night in that form he would have smashed anyone.

His best is still clearly better than everybody elses.

It was Tsonga who is a pea heart. Cilic at least tried to the end of the match and he had played over 20 hours of tennis! The gap between Federer's best and the others is a lot closer. The key to this match is the first serve. If Murray serves rubbish he'll get smashed, if he serves well I firmly believe Federer may be in trouble. Murray's game troubles Federer at the best of times.

Agree, Tsonga was not up to it last night, was probably fatigued from his back to back 5 set matches.

On beating Federer, I thought the more common theory was that powerful hitters trouble him. Nadal, Del Potro, etc.

Should be a good match, and I probably want Federer to win, but he's starting to bore with with his effortless skill.

They mentioned last night that Murray is actually ahead against Federer in their head to head record.

I don't know if that's a Slam title head to head or if it includes the other tournaments.

Agreed, and that's why I'm concerned about how Murray is going to come out in this one, could be a bit too passive which tends to be his comfort zone.

Fed in 4 is my pick at the moment.

That's all tournaments, the only time they have played in a slam was the '08 US Open final where Fed won easily.

Big hitters he beats most of the time to be honest. He does struggle with volleyers a fair bit. Nadal is not really a big hitter per se anyway.

I swayed between a confident Federer victory and the thought its Murray time. Murray has a game that's ... very very good. A lot of variety, maybe a bit defensive ? Nonetheless, has a winning record against Federer. Federer has a game that is not 'very very good' its out right brilliant, the best all court player we've ever seen (IMO).

I look at the semi finals and see that Cilic, a player who is good without being elite, managed to trouble Murray. Tsonga, on the other, barely won a point. This sways me torwards stickings with Federer.

Then I look at the US Open final where JMDP managed to out last Fed in 5 and wonder how that could be - a rookie finalist beating a 21 slam final legend in 5, a 3 set thrashing would have been more explainable, but to out last Federer in 5 is another thing all together.

So we come to the conundrum of Legend vs Heir Apparent.

Does Murray have the 'firepower' ... probably not ... but he has the smarts and defensive game to make up for it. Watching his game vs Cilic, he was pulling out shots from all over the shop and running down balls that had to be seen to believed. I wonder if this is the Murray that will turn up?

Does Federer have the mental belief against Murray? Does Murray trouble him (mentally) as much as Rafa? Which Federer will turn - the one that trounced Roddick in the semi's last year? The one that we saw between 2004 - 2007?

But weighing it all up i'm backing Federer...

A lot of questions which will be answered in 24 hours time.
