Levi. Patience.

Levi will be starting to come into his own in 2012 as he develops his skills in the FF position. I think that he will get limited game time next year just to give him a taster and then in 2012 explode onto the scene.

All is good in the world in the FF position.

Now we just need a big bodied CHB to slot straight into the side.

Well worth the punt
Ariel Steinberg feels the stop-start, high-intensity nature of the game enhanced his pace and strength, and clearly benefitted him on his return to Australia.

"He dropped off the radar when he went to Canada and we didn't even know that he'd come back," Pioneers regional manager Ray Byrne says.

"But then we started to hear reports about him kicking bags of goals up in Mildura. I went over to watch him at an inter-league game in Horsham and he'd just improved out of sight. We invited him back into the program and the rest is history. He's just been terrific.

"He's missed a year playing TAC Cup footy, but he's come back into the system after a year and you wouldn't know that he'd left. From that point of view there's a lot of upside to him.

"He didn't train with us, he trained in Mildura, and he really trained hard. He just did everything right. He was always ready to play and he prepared himself really well. We gave him some programs once he got down with us, but he's basically done it all on his own."

Steinberg played just seven games for the Pioneers, but impressed with his endurance and disposal by hand and foot.

Allowed him to play multiple roles from full-forward right down to half-back, Byrne likened his versatility to Geelong's Steve Johnson.

"But my No.1 desire is to play football at the highest level. If that doesn't work out this year then I'll still find another way to get there. I'll just keep working."
Well worth the punt

starchamber will call him the little mermaid.

Big Pond videos keep cutting out halfway through. :thumbsd: :(

He could be a smokey for 41.

looking at nightmares draft

#18 (Carlton) – Matt Watson (VIC)
Height: 194cm, Weight: 99kg, DOB: 16/07/1992
Recruited from: Calder Cannons
Style: Michael Hurley/ Brian Lake
Likely destinations: 7-20
Why: Reads the play well. Strong mark overhead, has a thumping left foot and is a big readymade key position defender who can also play forward. Good enough to contribute from season 1. Might get a little exposed on the lead with his slight lack of leg speed but otherwise I like Watson allot. In style really reminds me of Brian Lake allot with the way he provides good rebound from defence.

#33 (Carlton) – Mitch Hallahan (VIC)
Height: 182cm, Weight: 77kg, DOB: 23/08/1992
Recruited from: Dandenong
Style: Lenny Hayes
Range: 8-36
Why: Hard as nails. Doesn’t shy away from the contest and will put his body on the line. Real inside player. Loves to tackle. Has a bit of penetration on his kick. Good decision maker. Was outstanding for Vic Country in the U18 champs. A real solid citizen who should play for a long time.

#41 (Carlton) – Warrick Andreoli (WA)
Height: 182cm, Weight: 73kg, DOB: 28.02.1992
Recruited from: Ramblers GFA
Style: Stephen Hill
Range: 23-51
Why: Very clean and can easily pick up the ball with one hand or on the run seamlessly. Has a fair bit of acceleration and likes to take the game on. Clever in traffic. A lovely left foot kick. Not a bad decision maker. Fair bit to work with here.

That actually would be amazing :thumbsu:
Hallahan falling to 33 is a dream! Andreoli is a very good player will be a beauty in a few years. Matthew Watson will slot straight to FB. Not quick enough for CHB. Watsons a Michael Hurley/Tom Hawkins type more than Brian Lake.

TBH I expect Watson to fall at least till pick 19. His upside is limited, and I can't see us foresaking a shot at a kid with a lot of potential to fill a gap this early. My bet is:

18. Hallahan (Probably won't escape the 20's if not taken here)
33. Mitchell (Great tall forward prospect who has bounced back strongly from injuries)
41. Hartigan (Taken earlier than most teams will have him pegged to go, will shore up our tall defender stocks)
67. Sewell (Should be good midfielder cover now that Hadley has departed)

Is Mitchell likely to be around for pick 33?

Genuine big men who stand 198 cms don't grow on trees.

Brisbane might be fishing around for some young talls with picks 25, 27 and 31.

I'm not convinced that the argument that a KPP who plays well due to his size can't improve or play well at the highest level. The likes of Tippett, Hurley and Dawes have done well after entering the AFL system. I'd still take Hawkins if there was a chance we could get him to play deep full forward. If they have good legspeed at that size, then that's a positive and more definable than a player who might slow down once they put on muscle. Jacobs and even Casboult have changed their body shape dramatically once Cordy got a hold of them.

If only we had Cordy when Whitnall was playing.

It seems many people are rating Watson exactly the same as Hurley two years ago, with a pace weakness, l suspect he will be quite similar to Hurley and have no problem adjusting to Afl quite quickly as a long term key position defender.

Hurley has had no trouble with the pace of AFL from Day1, unlike some of experts saying this was a major flaw in his game at the same time two years ago.

Those that are supposed to be the real 'experts' all had Hurley in their top 25 or so that year (I never liked him because I always thought he looked like a bit of a blockhead) but they seem a bit more reserved with Watson, for whatever reason.

Hurley was always rated in everyones top 10. Days before the draft i remember seeing a mock draft in the paper and they had hurley going to us at 6 and yarran at 13. Hurley was slower but he had an outstanding all-round game on him. I would compare Watson to tom Hawkins. They have very similar builds just one plays forward and the other plays back.

18- Lucas Cook / Jed Lamb
33- Josh Green/Luke Parker
41- Ben Jacobs
67- Kyle Hartigan

Had a mate at AIS and i asked to keep an eye on the carlton boys and he said we were looking at Cook and Lamb were likely. But then again this guy thinks Prestia is going at 8 and Matthew Watson will be pick 9

Just quietly, Prestia will be a fantastic player. Is in the Harvey, Ablett, Murphy mould of small but smart and skilled. The team that picks him up will be very happy. If the Bombers really want him and can't see him getting to their second, they might jump early. Doubt it though, Polec, Smith, Harper are all fantastic prospects that seem to line up with what they want

Countdown to D-Day

CARLTON
NAB AFL Draft selections: 18, 33, 41, 67, 70
Delistings and retirements: Richard Hadley, Shaun Grigg (Richmond), Sam Jacobs (Adelaide), Simon Wiggins
Additions: Andrew Collins (Richmond), Jeremy Laidler (Geelong)
Approach: The Blues love Paul Bower, but are starting to come around to the idea that he might be more-suited as third-tall defender rather than centre half-back. Mark Austin has been viewed as another option there but his body cannot be trusted at this point. At the other end of the ground Lachie Henderson is coming along nicely and Jarrad Waite will be better with a season under his belt following a knee reconstruction, but Setanta O'hAilpin's disappointing finish to the year will see him moved back into defence, leaving the Blues to shop for another tall target on draft day.
Dream selection: The Calder Cannons' Matt Watson would slot into centre half-back early on and is a reasonable chance to still be available at their first pick. The 195cm key prospect already weighs in at 98kg, has a strong left foot and is a composed decision maker coming out of defence. Will also consider SA lad Patrick McCarthy if Watson isn't on the board. WA forward Jack Darling could be a smokey if neither is available.

What pick will Jack Darling go at ?

before our pick I presume...

Darling is a loose cannon and one I wouldn't think we would select after the whole Fev fiasco. On the other hand he has a tonne of potential and would be hard to overlook at 18. Plays as an undersized forward but he believes he can move into the midfield as well.

He's certainly one that I will be interested in following on draft day.

The article Sin quotes refers to our need for key position backmen but doesn't mention Laidler who it later informs us was the FB cover at Geelong and that they too will be looking at tall defenders. A bit inconsistent

Laidler is too small for KP but some KD are not that huge anymore... so who knows?

On Watson/Hurley i have never been a massive fan of Hurley with a top 10 picks.. he isnt overly tall and he isnt fast.
Not sure how fast Watson is but he is proper KP size...... having said that.. the trend is not so much the KP defenders nowadays its about pressuring the ball carriers to not get the ball in cleanly and having some sweepers third man up types to help out defenders

I was more referring to the fact that the author though both Carlton and Geelong's KP stocks were low, in the Geelong article he mentions Laidler as depth they have lost, but in the Carlton he doesn't mention it as depth we have gained.

Can't say I believe Watson will be best available at 18, I have a huge man-crush on Hallahan though

Would love to draft Isaac Smith with our 2nd or 3rd pick if he is still available.

Have watched him 3 or 4 times (including once live in the VFL grand final) and was very impressed.

Over the last few months he really put his foot forward as a draft candidate after a string of fantastic performances at VFL level.

An absolute certainty to have his name called out on draft day, and would love that to be by the Carlton recruiting staff.

I'll qualify my statement first by saying it is all based on the one youtube clip, but I just watched the Watson clip and am seriously stumped over the hype?

By gee he looks WAY shorter than 195cm, I thought the video had been mislabelled when I first saw him on screen. At best looks about David Teague height if not smaller, body shape of a Jarred Moore (could also be the number 33) but seriously?

Also looked more like a third tall or a loose man in defence, just on that didn't see him play on a particular player and spoil, just sweeping the ball out of defence.

Obviously there must be more to him than that to justify the hype (would like a comment from the seasoned draft watchers) but just based on that, seems like no scope for improvement.

Can someone correct me?
