2010 Draft Watch Thread

Hey wasn't sure where to post this, there is another Chris Yarran running around in the WA U/16's who just kicked 7 goals. Any draft watchers who have an idea whether this kid will be good for two years time or is he a GWS target

Whats the news on Blake Bray? Playing for GWS and has been doing pretty good but don't we have him under NSW scholarship???

Was thinking about Bray too, seems to go ok at tac cup level, when GWS have played well he has kicked a few goals.
What sort of pick would be used on these NSW scholarship guys.
Anyone know his Height/Weight?

Should purely be drafted on EPIC name and hair.

Good kid.

One thing you won't have to worry about when it comes to Jack is that he'll make a concerted effort back up and look out for his teammates! Carlton needs more of that!

I used to call him the polar Naitanui when it comes to his hair and his look!

If we finish 8th what will our 1st pick be?

Any chance we could deal with West Coast for their 1st pick? Garlett in the deal.

It'd be pick 18.

Don't think it'd be enough to get West Coast to part with pick 4, they'll get a very good player there.

There's a SA lad named George Horlin-Smith who has come under some notice recently - particularly Collingwood. Not overly quick across the turf but razor sharp skills and Diesel-like footy brain.

Jayden Pitt is the one I really like this year.

Looks like I'll miss out on my guy this year :(

Who's everyone else got their eye on?

Falcon's bolt from the blue

Pitt dominated on his wing and again showed great poise in slippery conditions. His kicking to position made spectators glance down to their programs to check out the identity of the skinny prospect in the No.3 guernsey

His greatest strength is his kicking. Mick Turner, the Falcons' long-time regional manager, says Pitt's foot skills are the equal of any player to emerge from their program.

Been playing school footy in SA, there was an article in Adelaide now that suggested a couple of clubs were trying to hide him away. He goes alright on my limited viewing. As you say he makes good decisions, uses it well and is dual sided.

No use trying to trade with bottum 8 club who will most likely cherish there 1st round pick more this year than most unless something exceptional was thrown up in which case we can't afford to be doing.

If your going to trade with a club for low picks then the obvious is the club with 7 of the top 12 picks.

Asking Turner for his opinion on Geelong players is equivalent to asking HBF for his view on vanilla short people...

Based on needs and Daffey's opinion, what are the chances of these players being around for our first and second round picks?

The top 25 U18 players
Kieran Harper (5 June 1992, 187cm, 78kg, Vic Metro): Midfielder and half-forward with the ability to turn games. His under-18 championships were disappointing before he kicked four classy goals in the final game. Hard to pin down because of school commitments but he’ll go in the first round.

Tom Lynch (31 October 1992, 196cm, 86kg, Vic Country): The bolter. A year ago he was playing in the Sorrento under-18s. In June he was taking marks and kicking goals in the national under-18 championships. Only Sam Day would top him for potential upside.

Pat Karnezis (23 April 1992, 191cm, 77kg, Vic Metro): Clever forward who leads up and doubles back in the mould of Ryan O’Keefe while showing some of the tricks of Steve Johnson. Only decided to concentrate on footy a year ago, having always played soccer. Good upside.

Billie Smedts (8 June 1992, 187cm, 77kg, Vic Country): Half-forward and half-back who runs straight. Strong, agile and versatile in the mould of Jarrad Waite, but seldom able to show his best this year because of injury and school commitments. Son of Footscray and St Kilda player Albie Smedts.

Daffey couldn't find a spot for Blayne Wilson and Matthew Watson who have a fan club on BigFooty...

I would love a power CHB, but a Gilbee/Hurn type sweeper or a marking half forward would also address one of our needs.

Maybe Lucas can play as a marking half forward down the track.

I wouldn't mind Harper getting through.

The Dogs would have smashed this draft if Albie Smedts had have played more games.

Wallis, Liberatore and Smedts would have been gifts.

Stingrays earn coach's praise
"He [Lynch] just gave us a strong tall across half-forward, and presented all day and controlled the area really well," Yeats said.

"For a kid who's six-foot five, he was prepared to chase tail and put pressure on. He's almost the full package. He's improved a lot.

"You'd be silly if you weren't interested in someone who's six-foot five and had his mobility, stretch, attitude and appetite for the game … you become very excited."

Hughes will only tear out my heart again and stomp on it before he picks Jacobs or Wilson who are Wayne Hughes specials.

Scuze my ignorance, but what pick are we looking to get this year?
We'll have pick 18 if the final goes as many expect it to.

Beating Sydney will be tough.

I want to win, but getting pick 18 might be a blessing in disguise.

Lucac Cook might fall into our lap if we're looking for best available. :p
