Billie Smedts

Medium defender who works off his man extremely well. He is not afraid to attack as a backman using his judgement and reading the play to his advantage. Has excellent timing in marking contests and nothing seems to faze him. His poise and creativity off half back makes him a dangerous proposition for opposition sides.

Lucas Cook

The key forward impressed for Vic Country in the Under 18 championships and has taken his game to a new level in the TAC Cup. He is a mobile forward with a good leap and clean pair of hands. He presents well to the ball carrier and his set shot kicking is technically sound.

Matthew Watson

The Centre Half Back enjoys the challenge of playing on the key forward and limiting his impact. He provides superb rebound from half back and his kicking is laser like over distance. He is strong in the air in marking contests and is used as the main distributor off half back. Watson is a powerful player who uses his body work to advantage and he rarely misses a target.

Luke Mitchell

He has missed much of the year because of a shoulder injury, but has had a couple of games back and looks ready to regain his form. He is probably the best one touch mark in the competition and when it is kicked to him he inevitably gains possession. His body work is difficult to overcome and a player of his height is difficult to match up on. He is very mobile for a big man and he has a strong work rate.

Mitch Hallahan

The Dandenong and Vic Country captain is the heartbeat of the team and his role is integral for their success. He has a tremendous appetite to win the contested ball and is prepared to sacrifice himself for the good of the team. He is one of the toughest players in the TAC Cup and his grunt work will help players like Luke Parker and Adam Treloar in finding space on the outside of the contest.

Josh Caddy

Powerful inside player who wins plenty of contested ball and has the ability to shrug opponents and find space when there is seemingly none. His kicking is exceptional as he rarely misses targets and has the ability to rack up plenty of possessions. He is also dangerous when resting forward with his contested marking which is highlighted by his seven goals against GWS earlier in the year. His role is crucial for the Knights, because when he is on song no-one can curb his influence.

Ben Jacobs

Can play in most positions, but is probably suited to a half back flank where he can do plenty of damage. He is a powerful athlete with a strong vertical leap and a penetrating left boot which can launch the ball over 60 metres. He set up plenty of play off half back for Vic Metro, although he was mainly used as an isolated forward early in the season where he kicked plenty of goals. Jacobs can also step into the midfield and win numerous possessions in there.

Patrick Karnezis

A clever lead up forward who uses his body to guard space with great success. He has a knack of shaking his defender to find space inside forward 50, but he can also play as a high half forward and provides a target there. He is strong overhead and finishes his work with aplomb. Karnezis is so dangerous because he is deceptively tall, and teams find it difficult to match up on him. Has the ability to kick goals in a short space of time.

Dyson Heppell

He is probably the best rebounding defender in the competition and his importance to Gippsland is unmatched by any other. His kicking is pin point and his effective kicking sets Gippsland up for numerous forward movements. He is strong in the air and clean on the ground, and teams will be keen to curb Heppell’s influence before he tears the game to pieces. He has the licence, as a designated kicker, to find the right options and more often than not his decision making is spot on.

Can we draft Bendigo's Brad Eagle for his name?

If any of the TAC Cup watchers can be botherd I'd like to hear some thoughts on

Blake Bray

Dean McDonald

Josh Walker

Seem like they could be good pick ups with later picks

Maybe add luke Mitchell to that group too.

I'd say no to Tom Lynch. Is an athlete more than a footballer, is effectively a smaller version of Hampson or O'halpin. Not saying he can't become a great footballer, but we need a player with smarts more than we do an athlete who can once or twice a game do something physically incredible

Unless we trade for a higher pick, it appears we've got Buckley's and none of getting Watson who is finishing the year strongly.

Watson fires for Cannons
ALL-AUSTRALIAN centre half-back Matthew Watson showed his versatility with five goals in a best-on-ground performance for the Calder Cannons in their 101-point demolition of the Eastern Ranges in an elimination final at Visy Park yesterday.

Cameron Guthrie kicked four goals.

Speedy midfielder Dyson Heppell was best on ground for Gippsland Power.

North Ballarat Rebels forward Jarryd Hill also boosted his draft chances with eight goals against the Murray Bushrangers in a 100-point win on Saturday.

IF we can get a nice pick for Sauce, I would love to get our hands on ( in no particular order) a KPF, a half back/general with good skills and a tough inside mid who is a leader.

I'm not sure where we are with our first & second draft pick.
If we are to draft "Buckley" (another midfielder) under the father son rule then we have to give up one of our picks which is the next pick after another club would be prepared to offer for him. Therefore if that happens to be our first pick at around pick 17 then our next pick to get a potentially good CHB prospect is around pick 33 or 34. I don't like our chances much of getting anything too great.

If I were the GC, I snap Watson up. KPD's who can shut down and attack don't come a long a whole lot and they aren't stacked with KPD's. Bock would be a great teacher (on field ;)) to him.

Yeah, wouldn't be surprised if GC try to build their future spine through first round picks this year.

Somebody tell me more about Karnezis, does he play tall as well as short?

Yes he does and is pretty underated around these parts IMO. Kicked 6 in a game earlier in the year, taking marks on the lead and a few contested pack marks. Runs all day.

I would be happy if we picked up Dion Prestia with our 2nd round pick. He would be perfect as a hbf / sweeper. Has pace and endurance, great skills and a lovely long kick

Where is Celtic Pride these days? Celtic would be throwing up names of Hurlers from Ireland to take with our first 2 picks. Or did we trade Celtic back to Geelong?

He lost a bet on Bay 13 (bet we would beat Essendon in round 3) and as a result he had to give up Bigfooty forever

Wont be there for our 2nd round pick.

Our best chance of landing Prestia would be to trade a player for another pick in the low 15-27 mark.

I like the sound of Prestia - he could be the Daniel Rich of our side.
