TAC Cup Finals ForecastBillie Smedts
Medium defender who works off his man extremely well. He is not afraid to attack as a backman using his judgement and reading the play to his advantage. Has excellent timing in marking contests and nothing seems to faze him. His poise and creativity off half back makes him a dangerous proposition for opposition sides.
Lucas Cook
The key forward impressed for Vic Country in the Under 18 championships and has taken his game to a new level in the TAC Cup. He is a mobile forward with a good leap and clean pair of hands. He presents well to the ball carrier and his set shot kicking is technically sound.
Matthew Watson
The Centre Half Back enjoys the challenge of playing on the key forward and limiting his impact. He provides superb rebound from half back and his kicking is laser like over distance. He is strong in the air in marking contests and is used as the main distributor off half back. Watson is a powerful player who uses his body work to advantage and he rarely misses a target.
Luke Mitchell
He has missed much of the year because of a shoulder injury, but has had a couple of games back and looks ready to regain his form. He is probably the best one touch mark in the competition and when it is kicked to him he inevitably gains possession. His body work is difficult to overcome and a player of his height is difficult to match up on. He is very mobile for a big man and he has a strong work rate.
Mitch Hallahan
The Dandenong and Vic Country captain is the heartbeat of the team and his role is integral for their success. He has a tremendous appetite to win the contested ball and is prepared to sacrifice himself for the good of the team. He is one of the toughest players in the TAC Cup and his grunt work will help players like Luke Parker and Adam Treloar in finding space on the outside of the contest.
Josh Caddy
Powerful inside player who wins plenty of contested ball and has the ability to shrug opponents and find space when there is seemingly none. His kicking is exceptional as he rarely misses targets and has the ability to rack up plenty of possessions. He is also dangerous when resting forward with his contested marking which is highlighted by his seven goals against GWS earlier in the year. His role is crucial for the Knights, because when he is on song no-one can curb his influence.
Ben Jacobs
Can play in most positions, but is probably suited to a half back flank where he can do plenty of damage. He is a powerful athlete with a strong vertical leap and a penetrating left boot which can launch the ball over 60 metres. He set up plenty of play off half back for Vic Metro, although he was mainly used as an isolated forward early in the season where he kicked plenty of goals. Jacobs can also step into the midfield and win numerous possessions in there.
Patrick Karnezis
A clever lead up forward who uses his body to guard space with great success. He has a knack of shaking his defender to find space inside forward 50, but he can also play as a high half forward and provides a target there. He is strong overhead and finishes his work with aplomb. Karnezis is so dangerous because he is deceptively tall, and teams find it difficult to match up on him. Has the ability to kick goals in a short space of time.
Dyson Heppell
He is probably the best rebounding defender in the competition and his importance to Gippsland is unmatched by any other. His kicking is pin point and his effective kicking sets Gippsland up for numerous forward movements. He is strong in the air and clean on the ground, and teams will be keen to curb Heppell’s influence before he tears the game to pieces. He has the licence, as a designated kicker, to find the right options and more often than not his decision making is spot on.
