While you can knock SOS's style of defending, he would no doubt adapt. He would have to change his tactics no doubt, but so would the forwards that he used to play against. SOS was the master at walking that fine line between free kick and good defence, almost the best from memory.

More than saying SOS wouldn't make it, Kramer is saying maybe he wouldnt be as good in this style of the game given it has changed so much. We will never know but it is an ok point to make.

Same as Brock Mclean looked like a top 5/10 player 4-5 years ago but is now being caught out on pace/rotations. The game changes means Mclean can be a good player but maybe not a great player. Just unfortunate but an example of how changes in the game favour different players. Another example would be the Hasleby's/Bells of the world are no longer in demand at all due to game dynamic changes. I doubt a Hasleby would be drafted right now. Mitchell from Hawthorn is one of the last of their breed.

I haven't come close to knocking his style of defending. He's the FB of the century for good reason...don't start joining the dots general style. It's a very different game to when SOS played...I miss it.

Why should put Watson forward without explaining it?

All that matter is that he's massive and potential KPD.

It's Talia all over again.

I brought up SOS because you get said get a player who can create, when we need a guy who can beat his man.

I think you suggested that we should get 33 and Sellar for Jacobs, so you can LOL at your own posts. Stating that SOS wouldn't get a game today is dumber than anything celtic_pride has ever written. Especially with Dawson and that plodder Nathan Brown playing in the GF.

O'Brien gets away with bending the rules, so why couldn't SOS?

Prestigiacomo got away with grappling and holding Fevola in the umpires' blind spots.

I want McCarthy because he looks better overhead and more athletic than Watson.

Brown started faster than Reid and Frawley who are now better defenders than the manchild they drafted with pick 10.

Nope. It's Talia STILL. Maybe because nearly a year after recruiting the 'best available' we still have a F#cking great hole at CHB and have no-one anywhere near good enough to play there permanently (with the exception of Waite whom we want to stay forward).

Can't wait till the pessimists go back into hibernation during the season.

Bower will come good. McLean will come good. White will develop further. Austin will have a full preseason. We have great young kids coming through the ranks.

All is well, adding a great kid to the club from pick 18 is all that we can be assured of.

What I would be interested to talk about is which player will slide like Lucas did (which none of us saw, or talked about)

It will be interesting to see if Talia ever becomes this CHB that is a better option than Bower.

When you make a statement like SOS would struggle big time with his defending style, not sure if that is joining some dots. Maybe you should stop making outlandish statements, general style. ;)

SOS defending the way he did for much of his illustrious career would struggle in today's game without significant modification to his approach.

Maybe highlight the outlandish bits to make it easy for me.

Agree the style he played in his era wouldn't work now. Just how much he could change to be relevant in today's game is the big question. Such a competitor first and foremost, so elastic in his body, i'd hope he could adapt to today's game.

Still, it is open to conjecture.

Could always have adapted into a forward. .. Was a great swingman SoS. ..

Won his first B&F (and finished very high in Brownlow if i recall correctly) playing CHF for most of the year in 1990.

I'll never forget the day he destroyed Gary Pert, Alastair Lynch and Paul Roos kicking 10 against the Roys or the day he booted 8 against the Hawks. Absolute champion! :thumbsu:

Or the 23 that he kicked in the backyard against his kids in the summer of '08. There is no way those kids are father son worthy, leaking that many goals...

Nothing beats the 50,000 fellow Serge sperm SOS kicked away on his way into the ovum.

Too crude?

Hood said Delaney, the younger brother of North Melbourne rookie Luke Delaney, struggled in the second half of the season after suffering a foot injury.

"His first half of the year was exceptional," Hood said of Delaney's season. "He lost a bit of his speed (after the injury) and that was his biggest asset."

Might be a good selection at pick 33 or 41 if Watson is gone.
