2010 Rising Star Winner

I have no idea why his name is not in the poll.

Ben Stratton has been a sensation for the Hawks.
Poll was made early in the season, I'm pretty sure the OP didn't know who Ben Stratton was.

Also I feel quite confident in declaring Hannebery as the winner now.

It is a fair point though, he obviously got alot of possies in the back half. I didn't see it but someone could confirm!!

No, the vast majority were around stoppages and in link play. Generally the first touch after a clearance, that sort of thing. While he wasn't superr effective with his ball use, he wasn't picking up cheapies. He was definitely in our top 3 for the game, alongside Jack and Mumford.

I'll be interested to see where Stratton finishes in the final standings of the actual count.
If he doesn't poll better than a certain other more publicised player in the black and red it'll be the end of credibility for the award for me.

You realise that it is a 5,4,3,2,1 voting system right?

You aren't going to get a 1-22 ranking of all the nominated players.

More than half of them wont get any votes.

Yeah, but I'm saying if I see that player get a 3,2 or 1 and Stratton get nothing, I'll have a laugh.

average disposals for 2010 best performance

tom rockliff 22.6 31 disposals

tom scully 20.9 39 disposals

dan hannerberry 20.6 38 disposals

jack trengove 19.6 26 disposals

ryan bastinac 18.6 24 disposals

dustin martin 20.3 24 disposals

jordie mackenzie 18.2 (no nomination yet is laughable considering he is ranked 8th) 26 disposals

so i dont think its all that clear cut on who will win i think scully hannerberry and rockliff will be top 3 but in what order im not sure

Stratton's been as good as Reid really, so don't be surprised if Reid polls as many if not more than him mainly due to the fact that he has been the starting CHB of the top of the table team.
The thing that counts in Stratton's favour though with comparing those two is that Stratton has played a couple of extra games, but Reid should be back either this week or next so no big deal I don't think.

If I were going to give votes right now it would be:

5. Daniel Hannebery
4. Jack Trengove
3. Tom Scully
2. Tom Rockliff
1. Ryan Bastinac

Stiff: Reid, Stratton and McKenzie

5. D.Hannebery
4. T.Rockliff
3. T.Scully
2. B.Reid
1. J.Trengove

Unlucky - Fyfe, Stratton, Bastinac, Hurely, Morabito.

Yeah, Reids been good this year too.
I had forgotten about him. Should probably be rated higher than Stratton, but then again, Stratton's almost been our best defender in his debut season.

My comments are not so much about Stratton but that I think the Rising Star may just sway towards high draft picks and hype, in a way of cross promotion for the AFL and it's drafting system.

Fyfe won't come close to winning (I predict) but in terms of x-factor, he has been one of the most impressive of the nominees this year. So long as he has his fair share of luck on the injury front, he is showing all the signs of becoming a high impact player.

I think few have any doubts that Hurley will become a very good player (at worst) but he hasn't consistently demonstrated it based on his performances this year. He has missed a huge chunk of the season and, while his best games have been super, he's not had that many of them. If the votes are awarded based purely on actual performances this year (rather than the voters' beliefs on who will become the best players in the longer term) he really shouldn't poll many votes at all on the voting system the competition uses.

Morabito hasn't even been nominated has he?

In terms of the top 4 smaller ball-winners (from whom the overall winner will probably come), it is hard to predict who will come out on top. Given that watching every game every week doesn't appear to be a requirement the AFL typically places on those who vote on this (or the AA team), it is likely to come down to an element of chance in terms of which of the youngsters' stand out games most of the panel happen to have seen.
