Re: Jones and Wilson cut

I expect us to turn over 4 players at the end of next season of the main list. Not including trades. Dalziell, Stevenson and Neates will be playing for their careers as will Swift.

You could add Strijk, Weedon, and Hams to that list.

I'm shocked about JoJo. Personally rated him highly, certainly above others, namely Dalziell. And if we were so keen on keeping Dalziell I don't understand why we didn't delist Neates instead, as we could of probably rookied him. We might not have the chance with JoJo.

And INTENSE I had a look at Brad Mackenzie a few days back. Really impressive! Him at 23 and Newman at 28 would be great!

Extremely surprised JOJO got the arse:(....I really, really like him. Some one will take him for sure. Wilson going is no surprise. Lynch, Darling and JK are all better as tall forwards and more versatile too. Wilson will also get taken imo

Looking to the draft for a sec....I'm officially opening up a bandwagon and filling it with 'Brad Mckenzie @ pick 23' fans. Just watched the SA v WA match and shit....He was the standout imo. For those who haven't seen him, think (in physical size and style) of a better looking version of Heppell with a bit of white Stephen Hill.

Great size and will easily put on muscle. Very good overhead mark, great reading of the play in defence, poise, an awesome left foot, more pace than Heppell and gets in to the physical side of play too.

Listed as a HB in the draft combine (don't roll eyes yet) but is a genuine forward and mid too (in SANFL under 18s last year, kicked 34 goals in 13 matches). Can run and carry and kick goals from midfield/wing.

I'm officially set on getting him at 23 and Newman at 28. I will kill myself if it doesn't happen.
Highlights package of McKenzie:

Does look quite good. As you said very nice left boot and strong overhead. Was also top 10 in the combine for agility.
Knightmare described him as:
#23 West Coast – Brad McKenzie (SA – Mid/Def)
Height: 188cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 29/05/1993
Recruited from: Sturt
Style: Dyson Heppell/ Trent McKenzie
Player comparison:
Range: 10-35
Profile: The thing that stands out with McKenzie is his skills by foot, is the absolute feature of his game. Has a great penetrating left foot kick on him and can consistently find targets or kick long goals from 60m out without any difficulty. Even under pressure executes by foot without any difficulty. Not a sensational athlete but makes up for it with his skill level. Seems to have a really good understanding of the game and reads the play well. Inside work is also very good. Was one of SA’s best midfielders in the u18 champs and had a couple of big games. A bit of a flanker but can play midfield. Quality ball user.
Sounds and looks a lot like Luke Hodge. His versatility would be important as i'm not sure we need another HBF.
Going by his size, clean skills and marking ability, he seems quite similar to Lockyer, with Lockyer being a little taller, a little quicker (?) and a little more versatile, but without such a damaging kick and midfield experience.

Must have faith in B. Wilson (especially) and also Sheppard, Brennan, Stevenson to let go of JoJo. I would personally prefer to let go of Dalziel but he might be insurance if we lost 2-3 midfielders next year.

His kicking action reminds me a lot of Simon Black, just more accurate and penetrating. Darling and Kennedy would love McKenzie kicking the ball to them.

Don't judge Black's kicking by the last few years.

Re-watch the 2003 grand final and see the laser passes he was dishing off.

Agree with both of these statements. Very effortless, natural style.
Simon Black was a freakish kick. Remember a particular kick a few years ago that he did lace out, 35m drop punt to a forward 70 degrees to the left of where he was facing. Best individual field kick i've ever seen.

J Jones could be rookied I suspect , I see that Dalziell has been maintained for midfield depth especially after Ebert has gone and the fact that we might not draft another midfielder this draft .

I can see why we maintained Dalziell , certainly like Swift can get a lot of the footy just disposal is poor . J Jones has had three lots of ankle surgery also with the latest at the end of the season needs time to recoup and taking the pressure of could be good for him .

Delisting makes sense.

Didn't he slip last preseason doing something stupid which caused him to need the surgery?

J Jones broke an ankle early in his career and has had surgery in off seasons since , reasonably bad break too so time off would be good for him to give it time and Jones still has a good chance to be rookied or taken by another club .

mackenzie looks kinda slow to me in that video. also looks like one of those blokes who somehow finds a heap of time despite this.

surprised to see so much support for drafting another south australian after recent events!

Very disappointed to see JJ cut.

However if it gives Neates another chance on the senior list I'm for it. Neates has potential.

Why is everyone so suprised? he was a prime candidate. What is it? 2-3 games in 3 years? If you dont get games your in danger of being delisted simple as that.

Added to that.He plays in the backline. We have a shitload of defenders of front of him.And he was never gonna be given a run as a mid, even though he played there a bit for Peel.

Im not suprised 1 bit

Jojo delisted.

Boooooooooooooouuuurns

Seriously, this kid had all the attributes of a handy utility. Could play third tall, HBF, wing and I reckon even in the guts. A poor mans Goddard if you will.

Tall, versatile, can find the ball, good disposal (not great) and a good mark. Thought he'd be an upgrade on Ebert now that he's pi**ed off.
Certainly not delist worthy. Particularly when we have the like of the big D on the list. And considering we're mostly likely to upgrade the Ham with 63, we're basically straight swapping the two.

Either JJ wanted to leave in search for opportunities or we've plans to rookie, otherwise I can't rationalise this decision.

But look at who we kept ahead of him?

Who? Dalziell? Id suggest he was kept for midfield depth. We had a dream run with injuries this year, next year we might not,i cant see him getting games unless a lot of mids are injured, hes back up only. Can see him being delisted next year.

Neates was probably kept coz we are desperate to find a genuine crumber.Has had a few injuries too.Think they just decided he needs more of chance to show what hes got.

Stevenson is in a similar boat to Jojo, the fact that theres a lot of defenders in front of him. However he can play on a wing as well,he wasnt recruited as a HBF,WCE have tried to turn him into 1(maybe to add a defensive side to his game).Has got really good foot skills,is a nice size.My only question mark is hes a bit timid, doesnt go hard enough at it when its his turn.He was just a skinny kid when we rookied him.Maybe he was used to playing as an outside mid.But hes well built now,and should be playing more an inside game.If he can do that, will be a very good player.I rate him,i think he gets harshly treated on here.Im happy to see him stay on the list.

Who would have thought we would have kept an outside mid over a HBF/utility?? Because we have so many outside mids and such a lack of HBFers...

An outside mid who is slow and can't hit the side of a barn, that is something we can do without actually. Besides JoJo has shown in his time at Peel he is capable of running through the middle or even on a wing, should have been retained ahead of Dalziell due to the extra flexibility he brings.
