As long as we get Newman with either pick I really don't care who else we draft - anything else is a bonus.

I think whilst Hill might be a chance to be selected by us, we are perhaps scaring Freo into picking him at 20, leaving some of the talents such as Newman, Manson, Lockyer, Nelson etc etc to us for picks 23 and 28. Just my two bobs worth.

Lockyer's highlights package.

Hard at the footy, doesn't shirk, can handle himself in a pack mark, good at ground level and has a good kick. Has a good pedigree and good head on his shoulders, really hope we pick this kid up at 23!

Newman at 28 would also be preferred over hill and manson, i'll take a good young kid with foot skills over an elite runner and flight risk any day.

phantom draft should come out today? usually reasonably accurate, should be interesting.

EDIT: didn't realise you(above) were talking about the phantom draft, lockyer and newman sounds like a win to me

Surprise. Someone told me Melbourne will take him.

Surprised as well. I would give PA zero to no chance of keeping him long term.

Really don't know how we are going to go. Would be happy with Lockeyr and Newman but Hill keeps popping into my mind. Can't teach pace and endurance. Could be anything. Manson could be anything as well but i think the lure home is always a big factor for players coming from very small communities. Is it Thursday yet?

FFS Neates has only had 2 years, by the same criteria we should have delisted and rookie listed Shuey due to his injury concerns.

Dalziell will be lucky to play a game next year and has no future at AFL level, Neates at least still has a chance to make it and should be preferred to Dalziell every day of the week.

FFS, Shuey was drafter top 20 in the draft who showed star potetial intraining and Neates went undrafted in the national draft and was only picked up in the PSD (should have been in the rookie draft). FFS, Dalziell actually stays fit and offers depth and would probably impact the salary cap more so it's actually not really an option if we need to pay Davis too.. FFS, would you really choose Neates over Davis??

GTFO!

Actually I can't see Neates getting a game next year. I would happily delist Neates and re-rookie him to draft Davis. That being said I think we will take Davis as a rookie and have someone on the LTI so he can play round 1.

Neates offers us pace and a little bit of X Factor and is a solid little unit - I like Him .

Heard on Sports Radio that Port are still interested in Davis but only in the PSD . Davis to Port is still a possibility but the $ 300 000 would be the sticking point there , WCE chances as a Rookie would be 20 % in reality !

Yeah, forgot a point. I don't think we can afford Davis on a rookie contract, he'd have to be on the main list. Our most likely move would be to pick up Davis in PSD and do the delisting and rookieing of Neates prior to PSD (is this allowed?) to accommodate. Our only advantage over Port is that we probably wouldn't balk at price, and all things being equal we're more attactive (finals, home, etc).

Does the RD work like the PSD for recent players? i.e. can they nominate with a price on their head?

If not, and they just get the standard rookie wage, surely port will take Davis!

Rookies are set on a standard wage - $ 42 500 , plus $3000 - 4000
per game if promoted due to injury .

Davis would earn more at Swan Districts ( Rio Tinto connection and work ) then as a rookie ! I think the final list lodgement was on NOV 16 so someone being cut or Rookied cannot be done now, BUT I might be wrong on that .

If Davis wants to continue his AFL career , most likely Port .

At WCE it would seem unlikely I would think , we neeeded to delist someone and we haven't and so I dont think we are keen !

We can delist someone after the draft but before the PSD, we've done it before (Stenglein, Hansen).

The problem is that the most likely candidates (Neates, Dalziell, Stevenson) have all just signed new deals I believe, as opposed to Hansen and Stenglein who got delisted before the final year of a multi-year deal. I'm not sure we can cut them before the ink is dry on their contracts.

Doubt Neates would be on big money... is there a minimum wage for an AFL player?

also, thanks new breed, suspected that we wouldn't be able to satisfy Davis with a rookie contract. So from our perspective it'll be either PSD or nothing in the Davis sweepstakes.

Really?

On anther note, if Hill has some decent foot skills (less than his brother but better than average) it wouldn't be the worst decision ever.

Murray Newman, Brad Hill and Fraser McInnes have all had private medicals with the club, Jordan Lockyer hasn't, so we could probably rule him out as one of our picks...
I'm hoping for Murdoch at #23 and Newman at #28. Would be happy with McInnes as well.

There is very little to see on McInnes which is very Eagles like, they do like to bury talented WA players and keep them out of sight;)

I'm guessing our plan at this 11th hour is to grab McInnes with 23 and then take Newman with 28, with the fall back position being Hill if Newman is gone and then Lockyer if McInnes is gone.

McInnes sounds like a good hedging pickup to cover for the retirement of Glass and someone who is well over 190cm and can play at both ends. A taller Hunter maybe?

First footage I've seen of him and he looks a gun. Would rather him than Talia by the length of Flemington.

23: McInnes
28: Newman

Btw what was his injury that kept him out of the U18 Champs?

Brad Hill Highlights - Very Skinny like Newman you would think he'd end up playing as a FP/HFF rather than pure winger like his brother who's taller, stronger and bigger.
