Re: Josh Hill - How is he going?

Look at the 3 teams above on this years ladder and you can see they haven't made too many recruiting mistakes. But I guess rose coloured glasses prevent the truth from being visible to the fanbois.

Just a comparison from the time after Judd and Cousins left.

2007 ND & RD: Collingwood: McCarthy, Thoolen, Barham, Casey-Leigh.

WC: Masten, Ebert, Selwood, Notte, McGinnity, Stevenson Arrowsmith, Sullivan, Wilson.

Geel: Taylor, D Simpson, S Simpson, Donohue, Moles, Kangars.

2008: Coll: Sidebottom, Beams, Blight, Rounds, Francis, Blair, J Bennell.

WC: NN, Shuey, Swift, Smith, Jones, Bedford, Cockie.

Geel: Brown, Gillies, Motlop, Hunt, A Varcoe, Weadon, Allwright, Kangars.

2009: Coll: Sinclair, Thomas, Hunter, Carter, McNamara.

WC: Sheppard, Weedon, Stevens, Neates, Broome, Strijk, Hams, JON.

Geel: Menzel, Duncan, Christensen, Vardy, Cowan, Weston, Johnson, Podsiadly, Stringer.

2010: Coll: Fasolo, Farmer, Ugle, Seedsman, Stubbs, Young.

WC: Gaff, Darling, Lycett, Brennan, Wilson.

Geel: Smedts, Guthrie, Horlin-Smith, Schroder.

I'd say Collingwood performed the worst.

Geelong nailed 2009, we nailed 2008 and 2010.
Still have high hopes for Sheppard and Stevens too.

And why the obsession of calling people fanbois? Sounds like a word used by stupid people to 'save face' in a lost argument.

Your antagonistic and constantly negative posts do not mix well with your obvious stupidity....I know your probably immune to being hated by everyone but still, try to be a little positive.

Do you really believe that .

I am sure that the Hawthorn fans will beg to differ.

05 : Took Ellis @ 3. Pendelbury went @ 5
Took Dowler @ 6. Ryder went @ 7 Mitch Clarke went @ 9
Took Muston @ 22

06: Took Thorpe @ 6 . Selwood went @ 7, Ben Reid @ 8 and Frewley @ 12 Took Renouf @ 24. Dawes went @ 28 , Tippett went @ 32

So to say the teams above us havent made to may mistakes is just wrong

Pick # 6 in 2006 looks like a F**k up in the same scale as Fiora before Pavlich and Tambling before Franklin.

If you are bitching about our drafting just be glad that you dont follow Richmond.

Re: Josh Hill - How is he going?

We let players like Fyfe.

So did every club including Fremantle.

Overlooked by everyone, great junior that had a stinker in 2009.

Because Reid would be getting games at Westcoast? You would be calling him a dud and crying about not picking up Stevens.

Sheppard, Weedon and Stevens in 09 and in 2010 rookie draft we picked up Broome and could have someone like Crameri if we had done our due diligence.

Crameri is a real A grader isn't he. :thumbsu:

Natanui, Shuey and Darling have been the exceptions and maybe Gaff will produce the goods next year but fanboi's are dreaming if they think we have done better than mediocre in the last 4 years of recruiting. Include Jordan Jones and Tom Swift in 08 to that list as well as Bedford and Cockie.

04 - Rosa and LeCras
05 - Hurn, Kennedy

All these guys are 23 or under.

06 - McKenzie, Schofield and Brown
07 - Scooter, Masten and McGinnity
08 - Naitanui, Shuey, Smith
09 - Stevens, Sheppard, Weedon, Strijk and Hams
10 - Gaff, Darling, Lycett
11 - Neman and McIness

None of them have peaked, not a single player from this list is a declared failure. :thumbsu:

Am I making any sense ? or can't you see or wont you see the truth of the matter ? well if not add in 07 Masten, Notte and Ebert and you will begin to see the pattern....someone in our recruiting department likes seafood :D

No. Because Masten and Ebert had shocking years in 2011?

Re: Josh Hill - How is he going?

99 - 06 we did extremely well in the draft.

2007 we fked up

2008 we got (arguably) the best 2 players in the draft along with Smith

2009 I think Sheppard is a gun and Strijk and Hams are great rookie picks, dont know about Stevens and Weedon though... bit too early.

2010 We insterted a large, black, rigid, spiked dildo into the rear end of the draft

So.. we stuffed 2007 and we could of gone one better in 2009. Allthough you would think at least 2 of Weedon, Stevens, Strijk or Hams will become good AFL players.

*EDIT* And according to some boffin in the drafts and trades thread relative to draft position we won the 2011 draft also :)

Re: Josh Hill - How is he going?

So to paraphrase: You think the Eagles are doing everything correctly?

Yeah, pretty much. I was agreeing that they should be ruthless, I didn't agree they weren't.

Do you think we could have done anything better? Sample size is obviously small, but I like the way the two most recent drafts have gone.

Sure people probably aren't happy with the Ebert result, but that was just an unfortunate culmination of unique circumstances which really aren't totally preventable.

Re: Josh Hill - How is he going?

We have been reasonably ruthless, we cut Wilkes, Wilson, Jones, Notte and JON recently and let others go of their own accord like Spanhger, McKinley and Staker.

I think this year probably saved a lot of careers and prolonged some that shouldn't have been. We probably should of moved on Rosa, Masten and Dalziel as those players wont be taking us to our next flag. Ebert was my biggest problem and now he is gone there are only a few left I would discard.

What's Rosa done wrong? He's constantly improved in his time at the club and is one of our most consistent performers

I think overall our recruiters have done a very good job. That said, drafting is as much about what opposition clubs don't take, as much as it is about what we do take. Getting Shuey and Darling with the picks we had were enormous bonuses. I expect the same will be said of Lycett in the coming years.

Swapping DDD with Staker was always going to be a massive loss. I rate Staker very highly and our squad would look substantially better with him in it. I can't help but think playing him in too many positions contributed a lot to his dissatisfaction with the club. That said, I don't know what Staker was telling the club behind the scenes.

I am a bit concerned about our lack of genuine midfield talent coming through. There's a big gap between Shuey, Gaff and our next best. If Masten can produce his best consistently as he showed in mid to late 2009, that would be extremely handy. If Swift can come good and Stevens gets more opportunity, things will look far better. We probably won't get to see how that is going to pan out until Embley and Kerr retire.

Kick goals ? 30 career goals in 7 years as a Wingman, Embley kicked over half that this year alone. Gaff kicked 7 this year playing as a sub most of the season.

Re: Josh Hill - How is he going?

Wow. Rosa is so best 22 it's not funny. Had a wonderful year before being cut down by injury. Yeesh, the offseason.

Re: Josh Hill - How is he going?

Not everyone is a goal kicking winger. Embley spends half his time in the forward 50. Rosa runs between the arcs delivering to the chest of leading players.
