The question that must be asked is;

Which Mitch Brown?

Do you mean Mitchell Brown from the Eagles, or Mitch Brown from the Cats.;)

I'd take either one.:)

I think he meants the one at the eagles becuase the other one is already in Victoria and we have been linked to the WCE one last few years. I think we can get him very cheap as well a third rounder I rekon would be great and he grew up as a Pies fan as well:)

I think a third rounder is extremely optimistic.

the 3 best non collingwood listed vfl players this year would be

sunberg
eddy
couch. surely they are possible selections for any club.

I was always a fan of Patrick Rose who kicked 8 on the weekend... He was rookied by the dogs but let go?

I'm really struggling to see who the Pies will drop off the list at years end and with all the prospective players the Pies can add to the list this year (Witts, Harley, Mooney, Starcavich, etc etc), I can't see too many live draft picks this year. We seem to have most positions covered and a large number of "development" players who could provide options with another pre-season under their belts.

For mine, just go for best available regardless of their "position".

Brandon Ellis from Calder Cannons sounds like a Hine Kind of Pick.

Would be a 2nd or 3rd round pick I would say and here are a few things said about Him:

  • ive seen this kid play hard at it midfielder who reads the play well /disposal usually very good by hand and foot .
  • Too Slow, but when he becomes a team player he will be alot better
  • has been playing well in the champs and is very much a team player

That Does sounds like a Hine Type who is not Super Quick but Reads the Ball Well like Fasolo and Sidebottom.

I would like the following picks to occur at this years draft IMO:

1st selection - Taylor Adams - drafted to replace Luke ball as the inside midfielder, incase Josh Thomas doesn't come on.
2nd Selection - ????
3rd Selection - F/S -Startevitch - drafted to replace cloke or dawes in years to come.

Adams will probably be gone by our selection. Not tall but a quality young talent who looks composed enough to play AFL footy now if he wanted to. Will be good value to whoever selects him.

But as others have noted Luke Ball needs to replacement. We have more than enough midfielders who can't even get midfield minutes now.

Starcevich is no lock to go in the draft. But if finishes the season off well worth looking at again.

There is a lot of discussion about Brett Eddy. He sounds as a good prospect. If we were to get Eddy do you think that it would be in the National Draft or the Rookie Draft?

With ACL more likely rookie.

I'd still go after him though. Knows our system. Even as our depth KPF to replace Perham. Better than Perham + Reilly for that matter.

Just on a replacement for Ball I think we've definitely got that area covered internally atm, but if we were to look for an inside mid I'd rather we chased Koby Stevens than use a first round draft pick in the 2011 draft on one.

Stevens went higher than the pick we'd get (he went at 20 we'll get something around 25) and would've gone higher still if it were't for injuries in his final year of U18's. He's currently not getting games with WC and is a Vic boy so he may be vulnerable.

TBH I really don't see any holes in our list atm except at a stretch maybe that 3rd marking option up forward (if he were old enough and available Mayes from S.A would fit that role to a tee) but Maccaffer will play that role when fit anyway.

So I won't bother putting forward any names because (outside of a ruckman) I'm 100% sure we'll go best available with each live pick we have and it's impossible to know how the club rates each individual without inside info.

Koby Stevens is a good one and his performances have been fantastic in the WAFL. Was a 1st round talent in his draft year even though he went 2nd.

Would love him at Collingwood also, but even though he hasn't played for WCE they rate him and don't want him to go anywhere.

It's a case of come back next year since still so young unfortunately. But with the improvement he is making I can't imagine there will be another year unfortunately.

As for best available. Agree. Only way to go. Our needs have been filled well over past seasons and I'm pretty happy to take a leaf from Geelong's recruiting and go best available and see what we can get and who can slide.

Can someone tell me how GWS could reject one of these deals as a trade for Jager O'Mera (is that how u spell it?)

1. Buckley, Goldsack and Farmer/stubbs

2. J-Mac, Buckley, farmer/stubbs

3. J-Mac, Goldsack, Farmer/stubbs.

Where I have said Farmer/Stubbs - could we trade both of them (so 4 players) for Jager?
Surely there are not too many clubs who could offer something like that (a premiership player)?

sadly i dont think GWS will accept 2 fringe players and an ok VFL player for a future star.

teams like GC who can offer high picks would more likely get it.

To get someone of the quality of O'Meara you'd have to offer a player (or two) that GWS would really want.

(HOPEFULLY NOT) but perhaps reid for O'Meara and a good pick after 2012 season is something that might happen

Understand this but GWS have to on-trade these 17 year-olds yes? If we're offering a premiership player and a fringe midfielder (who would get a game almost anywhere but collingwood) and 1 or 2 average VFL players and that is the best offer they get...?
Our coaching staff would rather die than see Reid go

They say you need to have 3 selections in the National Draft. Would the AFL allow these to be J Witts (NSW scholar), J Starcevich (f/s) and Jye Bolton (rookie promotion)? Or do you have to use some live picks?

Bolton wouldn't count as they need to be 3 live picks. Also Witts as a NSW Scholarship holder would go on the rookie list from memory.

Those deals are too weak, but I have considered whether they'd be interested in a deal involving Macaffer/Goldsack/McCarthy/1st Round pick for one of those 17 year olds.

It's a lot to give (quantity wise), but we're talking about a Top 5 pick in the draft, essentially - A Dale Thomas/Scott Pendlebury level talent, potentially.

I have wondered if GWS might be interested in such a deal to actually fill out their list with more experienced AFL players. Sheedy has already said that they intend to take more uncontracted players than GC did, so it only stands to reason that they are (rightfully) concerned about the impact that a non-competitive early start could have on their franchise.

I think three AFL caliber players under the age of 25, two of them premiership players, could be a tempting offer to a side trying to fill out a best 22.

A) They changed the rules a while back so that rookie elevations count as live draft picks to account for the weaker drafts due to GC/GWS involvement.

B) NSW Scholarship holders have to agree where to be placed - The club can offer him the rookie draft, but he could hold out for the senior list and go in the draft if the club didn't agree. We put Tom Young straight onto the senior list at the end of last year, rather than putting him on the rookie list.
