Looks to be a similar story today, the AFL members looks mostly full but there are big gaps in the public section. Lots of empty seats in the MCC members as well.
AFL members sold out - I tried to get a ticket yesterday, but none available.

It was an as-expected turnout. The way the seating is sold in blocks leaving chockers bays adjacent to empty ones is aesthetically displeasing and atmospherically deflating, though.

Considering it was such a freezing cold and wet night and a live telecast I reckon it was a very good crowd.

Has the seating always been sold like that, or has it changed? For example, in the late 1990s, when you had a crowd of 75k at the MCG I don't remember that sight of entire blocks of seats being unoccupied. It really does look aesthetically terrible.

The MCG website says that the Geelong Vs Hawthorn game had 14,500 public tickets unsold. The Carlton vs Essendon game is completely sold out. TBH I was pretty disappointed because Geelong Vs Hawthorn in a Qualifying final should be a must-go game for both supporter bases. It would be disappointed if tomorrow's game doesn't get 83,000+, but I think that it would get more than that.

Collingwood Vs West Coast's crowd was a good turn out.

If a Grand final doesnt get the neutrals to show up why would they for a 1 sided Elimination final?

I agree. The only non-Grand Final that could conceivably get 100,000 to the MCG would be Melbourne vs Essendon or Melbourne vs Collingwood.

A Preliminary Final featuring either of those two combinations could pack out the 'G.

The irony of that, however, is that with the Demons being involved, the MCC would be full, but the general ticketing might not.

In 2002, if Melbourne had beaten Adelaide in week 2 (they came close) and it was a Collingwood vs Melbourne Prelim, there would have been about 97,000 I reckon. That 2002 Prelim was the Pies first MCG finals match in 12 years. A Coll vs Melb Prelim that year would have been a bigger crowd than what the Coll v Bris Grand Final got the week after.

Tomorrow's game will probably get borderline 90,000, high 80,000's more likely.

If they've sold 85K tickets you'd think there'd have to be a lot of "no shows" for the crowd to be anywhere under 90K because surely there'd be more than 5K MCC walk up on the day. I have mates who are getting there at 8am to line up.

Remember the Geelong v Collingwood '07 prelim was an MCC lockout, it does happen. Tomorrow should get 90,000+ IMO

Yeah good point. We have seen 100,000 for two of the last three Grand Finals.

But I still maintain that the only possibility of getting 100,000 to a Prelim would be if the Demons were involved.

yeah and next week will be lucky to get 90K to the 2 matches.

50K Hawks Vs Swans (especially without Buddy)

40K West Coast Vs Essendon ;) (or possibly Carlton)

As it will be the only final in Melbourne for the weekend, you would expect a big turnout of neutral supporters so you would probably expect 60,000 to this game.
