Pretty harsh, it was a very even match for the most part. hewitt did have 40-15 in that game he lost his serve too.

We won't be seeing Novak till London at least I reckon, he basically collasped to the ground when it happened, it was rather bizzare.
Hope Novak is alright. It sucks when a player gets injured especially when in such good form.

That was pathetic he looked injured but he could have put a better effort in then that 30 - love up and just 4 unforced errors from Lleyton and its gone f#*^.

how can it be that the only 2 grass courts worthy of holding a Davis Cup can be in Perth and a golf club in Sydney?

We don't play tennis on grass anymore, its all mod grass and en tout cas. They are incredibly difficult to maintain and especially in our sun the thing ends up no different to a cricket pitch. Aus picking clay in the fed cup tie a few months ago (which we ended up losing as well) says it all.

Well that was a quick death:(, I guess we'll just have to go again next time. I'm actually now pissed off we lost to Belgium last time around more than this, that was absolute bullshit.

And Hamish McLachlan is a shitfull commentator, I don't think he actually knows anything about tennis. E.g. Hewitt hits a crosscourt winner, and he says "Its down the line!" Or Lleyton looked comfortable in the second set when rallying with Stan, although Stan was really getting on top, Newc seemed to be disagreeing with him a lot, which says it all.

I totally agree. Some of Hamish's comments was truly cringe-worthy and his interview with Roger how he kept asking what he thought about Tomic and where will Tomic be in 5 years.

A valid point. Still, IMO having some variety in courts in Australia can only be a good thing. Makes it fairly boring if all our courts are exactly the same. Need more clay & grass courts so our players are getting experience on all surfaces.

If you've seen the state the token clay court at Melbourne Park is in, you would see that Tennis Australia has dropped the ball in variety of courts. The plans for the redevelopment are quite good, four clay courts I believe, not huge but a good start.

On the grass court issue, I know from my junior days (7-8 years ago) that grass courts were being phased out then due to costs. It's a shame but if TA aren't going to give them grants to cover costs, grass courts will become rarer and rarer. Nothing beats playing on a grass court but synth and hard are just too cheap to pass up.

Thank god I'm not the only one who thought that he sounded like a ****ing idiot during that interview.

Know we can all be hindsight heroes but surely the common sense thing would have been to stop after the fourth set when it was getting dark very quickly.

Plus unlike grass courts, you can play on them all year round and don't need a dedicated greenkeeper. Grass courts are usually put into hibernation for 3-5 months over the winter.

They're still extremely common in Perth though - I couldn't believe how much tennis was played on grass when I spent a summer over there. Would even go as far to say that it's almost the most common type of court in some areas.

Prior to being over west I'd only ever played on two grass courts - White City, and a court attached to the local croquet club growing up (which was the only grass court for miles around). Most players I know have never played on a grass court at all.

I haven't played tennis in about 4 years, but when I was in juniors I would say some seasons I played on en tout cas nearly every week. I must stress it was not a high level or anything though, just your usual local association. Unless maybe they're really common around my area (north-western Melbourne).

What a champion Ferrer is.He is a warrior.I feel sorry for Nalbandian yet another tie looks like slipping away from Argentina and this time he didnt even get to play in it.As a Del Potro fan i am happy with the way he played, the surface could not be any slower and Juan showed a lot of heart. He gave his everything really and was in tears :( .Sad to see.Chin up Juan, hopefully next year will be your year.

Agreed, great to see Delpo back in form, even if he couldn't quite get over Ferrer. Hopefully he's set for a return to the top 5 next year.

Can Delpo beat Nadal tomorrow? its do or die for Argentina, I think Nalbandian might upset Ferrer if Delpo can somehow scrape through.I think he surely stands a chance.

I read somewhere that JMDP's 3 wins over Rafa have all been on hardcourt, one would think Rafa will rap this thing up tomorrow.

Think I might get a stream going tonight.

Rafa has turned it up, Delpo is nowhere to be found atm *rolleyes*.His fitness and mental strength has always worried me.COME ON DELPO...fight!!!!!!!

Meh! i am off. What started out so promising ended up being a spanking. After that break back in the second set it was NID :( .Delpo played well though, Rafa raised his level after that set

I watched the first set on a stream, but ended up turning it off because it stuffed up too often. The 6-1 score in Delpo's favour was not a true reflection of how the match was actually progressing. Despite the score, it took over an hour and I think every game went to deuce. Delpo came into the net a few times, early, but I don't think he picked his moments very well and Nadal would hit a good shot to win the point. Nadal was really not doing to much at all to trouble Delpo, the commentators even noted at one point that he didn't seem to want to change the direction of the point. Delpo was teeing off a bit with his FH, but it was truly a grinding set. It was pretty much a given that when Nadal won the second he would win the match, thus I went to a bed after a set all.

Poor Juan Martin though, losing to Ferrer in 5, then after what happened in the 08 final (I think), the bloke would be rather upset. :(
