Australia Vs China 8-10 July.

Australia:
Lleyton Hewitt
Bernard Tomic
Chris Guccionie
Peter Luczak
Marinko Matosevic

IMO it will be Hewitt and Tomic first 2 singles. Gooch and Looch in doubles. Then if its dead rubber last 2 singles Gooch and Matosevic.

Unbelivable Matosevic losing to a player ranked 404. Anyone got a link for llive scores the Davis Cup website one wont load on my computer?

Edit- The guy that beat Matosevic also beat Yen Hsun Lu in Davis Cup and narrowly lost to Matosevic earlier this year so maybe a bit harsh.

Tomic now up 4-0 in the 4th set.

Tomic got the job, tough 4 set win. Matosevic loss was very disappointing but no need for panic. Hewitt\Guccione will win comfortably and then even if the unthinkable happens if Tomic loses the reverse singles, Hewitt would play the 5th.

Opponents for the world group playoff: India, Russia, Czech Republic, Romania, Chile, Belgium, Croatia, Austria.

Without having a good knowledge of which top players play davis cup and which don't we really don't want to be running into the Croats, Czechs or Russians. None of them will be easy ties, even the Indians would have the doubles tie on a platter and Devvarman is not a pushover.

I would have to say chile with that line up, the tie would be here since we were over there a few years ago at the same stage. India would be here too I think unless they have a whinge about our forfeit. What we don't want is it to be played on clay, because that takes out Tomic. If we get clay, we are back playing Asian nations in 2012

Romania, Belgium, Russia, Czech Republic and Austria would be away ties, while
Chile and Croatia would be home. Not sure how the forfeit against India affects whether its home or away.

I'd agree that Chile at home on grass would be the best option, as their only dangerous player is Gonzalez, who is coming back from a long inury, and they'd probably play Capdeville or Massu as their number 2, who you would back Hewitt and Tomic to beat.

Romania away wouldn't be that terrible, as they have a pretty average team, and despite the tie probably being on clay you'd think Hewitt would be a good chance to beat Hanescu and Crivoi.

Russia also have a pretty average team.

Croatia wouldn't be terrible because at least we can make sure we aren't playing on clay.

Not sure if you'd play Tomic, regardless of the opposition if the surface is clay. Problem is there's noone really pushing to take his place on clay. Luczak is the only person that springs to mind, but hes been hideously out of form all year.

Russia could be dangerous, their team you'd think would consist of Youzhny, Tursunov and Davydenko. I guess only Youzney is in half decent form at the minute but if the other two rock up to play I don't like our chances. Someone like Tursunov in form would probably hit Lleyton off the court.

Seeding for the playoffs were done this morning, unfortunately Australia were not seeded.

Seeded countries are below, which means Australia has to play one of them.

Austria - Away
Chile - Home
Croatia - Home
Czech Republic- Away
India - Unsure
Israel - Ballot
Russia - Away
Switzerland - Home

Israel probably stands out as being the best option. From an entertainment point of view Switzerland would be my pick, if Federer decides to play. Would be nice to see Federer v Hewitt in Davis Cup.
