Would love him if WHE is taken before our pick. Only downside to us picking him is that Polec and Bartlett are kinda similar players and might not get many opportunities if they're fighting for the same position. Think we can still fit all of them in somewhere though, Bartlett might become a quality half back flank runner for us while Polec and Sumner will play in the opposite wings/hff.

I can still see the likes of Polec playing wing/HF with Bartlett doing an Adcock type role now, playing back with stints thru the middle. TBH, if these guys play to their potential, no one will kick them out of the 22. It's more likely that players like Bewick and JOB will be fighting hard.

Hi Guys,

sorry if this bloke has been mentioned earlier but is someone like casey scorpians Tim Mohr 195cm 98kg KPD 22-23 a better fit for us than an untried kid?

I think he'll be prelisted by the GWS if he hasn't been already.

Without knowing too much about the players and just going on what people on this forum say, it looks like the GC did really well with their KPP's even prior to the draft while GWS haven't been as lucky so it would be interesting to know why they didn't think both those guys were worth getting a year early and fast tracking their development.

Found the answer to Elton not getting taken.

''They told me they wanted me to work on my strength and that they didn't have enough footage of me playing forward and down back, so that's been what I've been concentrating on this year, to do more of that,'' he said. ''It was good to know that they were looking at me and that I was in the mix, so even though I missed out on it I didn't take it too badly.'

It is strange that they wouldn't take a fair few of the promising talls, but i guess it seems like they didn't know that much about him. That seems kinda strange too TBH, wonder who is doing the recruiting/drafting/list management...

Yeah it is strange. Gubby and Silvagni were slack.

I wonder if GWS now have him in their sights now with one of their top 10 picks considering he was apparently so close originally.

Thinking a little more about the GWS mix, they recruited 4 blokes who are essentially ball winners - Scully, Ward, Palmer, Reid. Throw in Power and Macdonald and you'd think that is the GWS midfield mix for round 1. It is hardly a pacey, skilled group. Morever, 4 of those are long term players recruited, you'd think, as 8-10 year players. That lessens the need to find an abundance of ball winners in this year's draft. They'll obviously take Conoglio who is all-round quality but how many more ball winners will they take?

The fact is, amongst the top 15 or so, there are several prospects who would appear to play inside mid roles. Given the GWS have 4 youngsters of that type (2 of whom were top 10 draft picks themselves), it will be really interesting to see how many more they take (and who). They can afford to be selective or, if they rate the depth of midfielders, they can afford to take someone like Kavanagh, Adams or Greene with a slightly later pick if they believe that he is roughly equivalent to a Wingard or Tyson.

Chris25 currently has GWS taking WHE and Buntine at #4 and #5. I reckon that's a good guess at this point in time. I also think Longer at #7 makes sense given Port's ruck stocks are looking stronger than before trade week so GWS can afford to wait.

That's my early take on it POBT. Unfortunately GWS' needs seem to be pretty similar to ours. :(

Picks 7, 9, 10 and 11 on draft day have the potential to make for pretty agonising listening.

A month to go till draft day and a lot can happen to influence where individuals are picked. At this point in time IMO Wingard looks the slider and may very well be available at pick 8.
What will we do if that is the case?

With GWS having the top 5 picks I severely doubt Wingard will slide to 8. I think GWS will take him in the top 5, If they don't most would think port would snap him up.

I reckon if that happened irel the Club would read out the Chad's name faster than they did Rich's.
In that case I'm not sure if I'll be able to catch Kerrey's dulcet tones on my Commodore 64.

Wingard feels like Rich. I remember leading upto the draft wanting rich, but really looking at him as it didn't look like he would be at our pick. I've not seen 1 sec of wingard for the same reason. I can't see Port passing up on him.

Had a look at Dobosz vision and his highlights look pretty good. Definitely has a talent in positioning himself and an ability to win the ball one on one. No idea of his defensive and chasing ability. I like him a lot. What is everyones take on him in relation to
(a) his likely pick range
(b) his comparison to other talls;and
(c) worth compared the mids that may be available?

For me he will go pick 15 to 40.
I rate him as the second best KPF in this draft.

My take on GWS needs:

They have all the inside ball winners they need really with Scully, Ward, Coniglio and Shiel there as well as an assortment of lesser options. They need some class on the outside and so guys like Sumner and WHE come into it. Tyson also is a very capable outside player. There are a few already on the team like Darley but I think they lack a little class in this regard.

I cannot see GWS giving Port a shot at Wingard let alone us. The thing to remember is not only is he an excellent midfielder he is also probably the best small forward prospect in this draft. GWS have a need in that area and I am sure they will take him.

GWS have a few runners off HB like Hampton who I really like but they could use an elite ball user. I can see GWS taking Grigg at some stage and using him like WC does with Hurn. Buntine will probably end up there to although I am dropping him a bit in my draft order.

In the ruck they have Giles who will be solid next year as their starting ruck and Phillips who has improved a lot and can play as a fwd/ruck. They will not give Port a shot at Longer who is head and shoulders the best ruck this year and probably the best to come along for the last couple of years. That gives them three legit rucks which is the minimum they need. They will probably pick up a ruck or two in the rookie draft but its not out of the question they could take Elton (who I am off) or a flyer at 14 to boost their depth.

Their KPFs will be the strength of their team. Cameron and Patton have enormous potential. Folau has looked good and Phillips and Longer will spend time down there. They also have others waiting in the wings. With that said I would be surprised if they didn't take another KPF probably Dobosz or Kersten. Probably not two of them though.

At the other end they had a few talls but I thought they were pretty week this year when I saw them. They have gone out and recruited Davis and Mohr who will do okay next year. Personally I think you could make a case that no KPD warrant being picked in the top 15 this year but given its a need I think GWS will take a couple. From what EQ is saying Tomlinson looks like one and I would expect Frost to probably be the front runner for the other spot.

So I could see the GWS picks going something like:

1 Coniglio
2 Patton
3 Wingard
4 Tyson
5 Longer

7 Sumner

9 WHE
10 Tomlinson
11 Kersten

13 Frost
14 Grigg

Based on that Q - who do you really feel port will get with 6 and more importantly we will get with 8 and 12?

Interesting Quigs.

Where does that leave us? Who is your first choice in this instance?

Probably doesn't carry much weight - but speaking to a few of the guys involved in the QLD U18 program over the weekend (not recruiters, so keep that in mind). They seemed to think Buntine and Adams are two kids who the recruiters really like who might not be rated that highly externally.

Also asked them for a smokie - they mentioned Ross(?) not sure where he is from/what position. Any idea who that could be?
