Correct. I imagine the Club will wait to see who is available and assess then.

With a couple of obvious exceptions we don't have a really strong history in PSD pick-ups, do we?

Having said that, perhaps with a lot of question marks over kids supposedly going deeper in the draft perhaps they'd like to see a few of them train with the club first...see who really wants it... *shrug*
You've only taken four overall... 2 in the last decade... Fixter (meh), and Rockliff.

50% is damned good batting for a late pick.

The ghost of Dylan McLaren still haunts these parts...

Is there still a chance to delist someone between the ND and the PSD period (3 weeks or so??) if we wanted a pick in the PSD after we see what happens in the ND????

McLaren wasn't a
complete write-off, especially not for (effectively) pick 80-something.

Just not quite good enough.

Clearly recall Charman letting Dylan know who was top dog in an intra-club a few years ago. Mentally wrote him off right then.

A bit disturbing to read the reports in this morning's Australian [yes, I know, the hate media] of the AFL's investigation into the efforts by Elliot Kavanagh'd father to dissuade interest in his son by at least one club. Apparently clubs are now recording interviews with prospective draftees as a self-protection. Draftees found pulling anything dodgy will now have their draft nomination voided.

Often wondered how James Cook's father years ago got away with a similar "hands off" trick before his son was drafted to you know who- that's right, Carlton. Poetic justice- turned out to be a dud.

Good to see the AFL is waking up to the Judd, Scully etc type tricks of the trade.

Without having read the article in the Australian, there's a good chance (based on where he is likely to be drafted) that we were one of the clubs that EK's father has tried to dissuade from selecting.

I reckon my dream draft would look like this, Greene at 8, Kersten,Kavanagh or Frost at 12 ( in the order of Frost, Kavanagh,Kersten,) Ellis at 30 and Ben Brown or Tom Downie at 47

anyway just found out I have a TAFE course on draft day which sucks, I missed last years one aswell.

Wonderful news. And only a few days 'til the draft. Negative publicity like that never bodes well. Kavanagh sliding to 30?? :P

The chance of us getting a "gun" with any of our 4 picks is not great.
I'd be happy with 2 x 150 gamers with 1 appearing 5 times in top 10 best and fairest or a similar averaged out result including both.

I reckon there is an even money chance of 2 of our picks not playing more than 20 games individually.

Re: Would you be happy if we took Waylen Manson at....

I'd love to have him at 30.. Can someone pls tell me if afl.com.au will be streaming the draft live ? Or is it only on foxtel. Thanks

I believe the website will be streaming a radio feed of the draft, but live video coverage will be exclusive to Foxtel.

Devon Smith

While it may have delayed his start to this year, the injury hasn't stopped the Geelong Falcons midfield dynamo from becoming a possible top-10 pick in next week's national draft.

He is a fearless clearance machine who averaged 27 possessions a game in the TAC Cup, including 12 contested. What elevates the 175cm midfielder above other prolific ball-winners is his decision making and ball use.

He sounds awesome, just like all the others...

Hehehe, thank god we're into the final week. It is usually about now I start second guessing all of my very loosely held beliefs.

"I know I've been saying for weeks we need talls, but 1.75m isn't *that* short, is it?"

"OP rumours? Eesh, maybe we should give him a miss then..."

"There's just no way Rich could slip to 7. No way. Could he?"

I already had concerns about Kavanagh with his injury problems, but if his Dad is a tosser and a control freak then leave him alone I say. Pick up a kid who is just wants to play regardless of the destination. Come on Greene.

Injury and monster parents concerns aside, he's got talent. And if he's still available at pick 30, he'd be well worth a punt right? ('scuze the obvious pun)

Yeah. Let's not forget that Luke Power's dad asked the Lions not to draft him. We did anyway and it turned out pretty good for us in the end.

I wouldn't be too worried about the Kavanagh dad situation. In a "all other things being equal" situation, yes it would probably sway me, but if he is the clear best option at whatever pick of ours, then I'd back us in.

Probably should have begged us to take Sam. Aaah, those we're the days. Every year the "will we trade for Sam Power?" threads.

I agree. I also think it is worth remembering that clubs tend to put the players under a heap of pressure at these things. A few clubs/coaches have been total ********s at the interview (**Choco-cough**). While you'd like a player to stand on his own two feet, it is not beyond understanding that a dad might seek to protect his son in that environment.

Not surprised. The buzz around him is tremendous. Clubs love this sort of player coming into the draft - late season form with what seems like plenty of improvement in him.

Seems a Hadley-ish pick too.

He'll be long gone by then, by the sounds of it. 12 or bust.
If Tomlinson goes at #7 and Haynes at #11 (looking to be a likely outcome), we're going to be left with some options at #12. I think there's a good chance that GWS may also pull the trigger on Elton, Frost or another tall in the #9 to #11 bracket.

A potential top 12:

Top 4 Patton, Conoglio, Tyson, Wingard/WHE

5 Buntine
6 Greene/WHE/Wingard
7 Tomlinson
8 Greene/WHE/Other
9, 10, 11 - Longer, Haynes, Frost/Elton
12 ???

Every chance we'll come out with 2 mids/flankers (potentially WHE and then Greene?), if GWS pull the trigger on Tomlinson early and take 2 talls plus Haynes at 9, 10 and 11.

IIRC, didn't something go down when Choco interviewed Rockliff? I thought I read or heard something to that effect in the year after he was drafted.
