I posted that not sure if it was in this thread and People said why should we draft another number one ruck and so on.

We need 1 or 2 promising young rucks to start developing, Longer is this, plus he can play forward. 4 years time, if he could hold down a forward spot, it's a huge win.

Rob Kerr is writing up a detailed overview of the entire Trade Week which will be published on our site tomorrow. But a couple of things that will probably be revealed include the following:

* With respect to the young KPP's in this year's draft, the Lions don't believe there is a huge range of quality big men available in 2011 past the first 15 or so. Lisle, at only 21, was considered a better propsect than one of the possible 18 year-old's that might have been available at pick 29. Time will obviously tell, but that was the rationale.

This would suggest that if we go tall, it will be at 8 or 12, unless there is an unexpected slider (???)

That's what i first thought, but actually, after read it, it sounds like we would be going small early up. We don't rate the talls in the draft at pick 29, we thought Lisle was a better use of the pick, so we took him. That means we were looking to go tall at 29. We might actually go small early on. Although, to be fair, we might just go either or / best available.

Longer won't slide to us at 8, surely....

That would be a Rich like win....

I really hope the reverse top 10 is ditched this year. If there is any year to ditch it, it's this year.

No way! I hate it, but this year we'll be the 3rd name called out.

We should take either Ben Ried or Jimmy Bartel at pick 8 and either Cyril Rioli or James Frawley at pick 12. I know they are a bit risky, but I just have a gut feeling on these guys:D

Going to be fun imagning what quality players we could pick up :) Die if we pick up a spud like Lewis Jetta:eek:

I think we all agree we must draft a ruck in this draft.

I think we should do so with pick 30. I reakon Tassie's Brown.

With 47 i would look at Fletcher Roberts or backman Schade, again from Tassie. Both a little speculative, but welcome to pick 47.

We might sneak Frost at 30 but couldn't be too certain Brown would be available at 47. I rate the need for a ruckman more highly.

Just my 2 cents

Will be interesting who the club has in mind because there is no way we will go into next season with only 2 ruckman capable of playing there for 80% of the game. I've liked what I've read about Ben Brown in the phantom drafts but if no club traded for him, especially us, then there has to be some doubts on whether he can play at AFL level.

Next year is a normal draft again yeah? Perhaps if we don't have more luck this year Grundy will be an option. I would prefer to play finals of course.

We need another gun mid, you cannot ever have enough of them, preferably someone in the 187-191 range!!:D

As for key position, history will show that ruckman really are the easiest blokes to pinch from other clubs, we have a gun in Luey, a back up in Hudson, i would hate to use a first round pick on one, that would be over playing our hand.

Cox was a rookie list pick up, i am pretty sure Sandilands was as well. Generally you will find a ruck gem elsewhere or late in the draft.

I just love the fact that we have filled 2 voids on our list and picked up another elite pick. Early draft picks give you great opportunities- culture brings the rest!

Does anyone else have a feeling that 47 might be used for Mitch Brewer from Broadbeach.

Would seem a good fit a 19 yo Ruckman from QLD, late joiner to the game as well.

Could well be. We'll need to take a ruckman at least 1 of our picks in this draft. If we go for a mid and Talia with early picks then we may be looking for Rucks with 30 and/or 47.

This would be my strategy.

Quigley, any idea who the young ruckman coming through our Academy program are and how far they are away? I would guess that our first chance to draft them is next year?

None of the guys I have been following have been rucks but at 15ish its very hard to project who is going to become a decent ruck. Lots of late growth, stopping growing, growing into your body etc.

Just mentioning with regards to Port Peter Rhode was interviewed last night on radio. They speculated about pick 6 and Wingard and the first thing he said was 'it would be nice if he was available but there are also some good options here including a promising ruckman'
IMO Port will either take Wingard, then Longer. If both are unavailable who knows?

Thanks quigley, just found it interesting that kerr, when talking about Hudson, mentioned that we had a few tuck prospects coming through our academy system

Cheers
