I'm really warming to the idea of Buntine.

All the good teams have smart half backs who use the ball well and set up rebounds.

He'd also give us the flexibility to move Hanley or Adcock into the middle. I don't think he will last till our pick 8 sadly.

Could pick up Forster. Unfortunately he is likely to go between picks 12 and 30.

First the appointment of Muzza, now a game in Alice. Is the Club warming to the Territory? Are there any likely NT kids they'd have an eye on?

I'm scorching hot on the idea of Buntine but don't think he'll be still available by pick 8. If he is, then lock him in I say.

Have a look at Buntine's video on AFL.com and tell me what you like from it.

He seems to make good decisions, but he looks like he has mittens on his hands when ever he tries to pick the ball up!

Buntine all the way with pick 8. He MAY be around still; there's still plenty of speculation as to how GWS will make their selections, and it's still any anybodys guess.

Aside from Buntine, with no other real classy "lock-in" standout forwards, rucks or defenders available by pick 8, perhaps we should go with best available. And almost certainly there will be one, two or even more very classy midfielders still up for grabs by pick 8 and maybe even 12 too.

Having a surplus of mids isn't a bad thing. They develop quicker than other positions, which means paid dividends sooner. Plus it will give depth, and out pressure on the other players in our current roster to keep their position, or perhaps be more better suited to an alternate role.

And perhaps if a season or two from now we do have one too many quality mids on the roster, we can always trade for an already developed KPF/KPD at that time.

As much as I think Buntine would fit straight into the side and provide immediate support, I still would be pleased if we we picked up any 2 mids out of Kavanagh, Greene, WHE, Sumner. All of which seem far more worthy of a high 8 or 12 pick than perhaps Dobosz, Paine, Frost, Talia.

I'm still wondering about Kersten though... Strong mark, clean hands, big body, quick lead, pure FF... But is he worth pick 12?

Somebody mentioned Elton as a real dark horse too. I like the sound of him. A tall with experience playing ruck, forward and down back. I wonder if with our young team we should be looking for guys like that who can be moulded at AFL level into the best position for the team, more than a pure one-position player. We really could use help at both ends of the field...and the flanks :(

A gun mid + Elton?

So, to clarify, with McKeever staying as an international rookie, Collier delisted, and Golby to be elevated, that means we elevate Golby with 88 and 69 is now a live pick, correct?

Interested to see if Hadley has an unfound gem!

If that's the case (and I haven't kept up with the List Maths) we might hold one over for the PSD...?

Ok - so far off the senior list we have lost 7 players Clark, Fevola, Power, Austin, Clarke, Charman, Collier. We have brought in Zorko, Isle, Hudson and Golby. That means there is 3 spots available - surely there is another delisting to come presuming we use pick 47 or have i missed something or someone?

If we wanted to we can also move Brown to "off the list" veteran status.

Anyone think kavanagh could slip to pick 12, just that knightmare has him listed with patton, coniglio, tyson and wingard as the only A graders, not saying knightmares predictions are perfect but he seems to have the most popular phantom draft.

Of course he could. I think he will be taken around the 7 to 15 mark.

May I ask where the view of Bartlett being inside has come from? Every time I've seen him, whether live (admittedly rarely) and from U18 footage it looks as though he plays an outside

In his comeback game against GWS he was more in and under than most when the ball came near him (he spent most of the game down back with stints through the middle). That's all I've seen of him, admittedly, so not much of a sample size.

I sent an email but haven't received a response.

Before it came out I also emailed the club to see if they were doing anything or knew how to get tickets. They got back to me but at that stage didn't know anything. I thought I might have gotten an email from the club about the process now that its known but you know the Lions. The Lions membership dept don't tend to follow things up very well. They take your money but that's the extent of the effort they put in.

Honestly I'd be surprised if the Lions knew anything. Last year was very Lions + GC, so I was expecting this year to be organized through GWS and Sydney. I suspect the Bombers didn't know much about invites last year, for example. Anyway I've sent a request, time to see if I get any response.

Don't forget GWS have been scouting these kids hard for the past 2 years, much longer than other teams. If Kavanagh's injuries really are nothing to worry about, and he's a gun steal, you'd think GWS would be all over him. So perhaps he'll be gone by 8.

:
I think you will find that GWS has had a recruiting and drafting department formed only in the last two years. Other clubs would have had an opportunity to scout the current crop since their Auskick days.

True. The only difference is that, for some of the potential draftees, GWS had to decide whether to take them last year or not. That would presumably mean that they cast a more critical eye of them in 2010 than other clubs would who had another 12 months before they had to make a decision. However, I think this is going to work in the negative rather than the positive. eg If GWS knocked back Elton in 2010, has he improved sufficiently as a footballer to override whatever their concerns were 12 months ago?

Elton's exclusion from GWS' initial 17 year old intake IMO is being overplayed a bit. Same with Kirsten. Recruiters are individuals looking at players from different perspective and in most cases their own club's perspective.

One can argue that time and circumstance conspired against Eliot in that situation. I am not saying that they were wrong not to select him, just that ITO he had areas of deficiencies that they placed greater value than perhaps another set of recruiters. What one recruiter (or club) is looking for another is not. Thus the disparity when recruiters list their priorities.

Elton would have been on recruiters list long before GWS had to make a call on him. Maybe if Hadley had to call on him last year the result may have been different. Anyhow it is all conjecture.

True. Speaking of Elton I noticed that Knightmare now has him going at 29 in his mock. If he slipped to 30 I would definitely want us to pick him up.

Don't be surprised if we pick up Jackson Merrett with pick 30. Strong word coming out now that we're very interested in his services and he seems like the perfect "needs" player for us.

I'm expecting a midfielder with 8, tall with 12 and Merrett with 30 while pick 47 will probably be a Hadley smokey.

Exactly. But when that same club has the vast majority of early picks, it is very relevant. I don't think it is overplayed at all. If you touted as a top 15 pick, and you've been overlooked by the club that has 11 of those picks, surely it is indicative (but not determinative) of how that club rates you. A lot changes in 12 months but right now, the only known fact is that GWS didn't have Elton in their preferred list of players 12 months ago.

That's what we know. What we don't know is if GWS have changed their minds, Elton has improved (in GWS's eyes), how GWS rate their list coverage in that position, etc.

Would be happy with Merrett at 30. If this is the case would definitely need to go tall with one of the first 2 picks.
