I have a feeling that Elton is going to go a lot higher than he is currently being mocked on BF.

Even if only ends up being a solid player he has a skill set that can give a team a great level of flexibility as a forward/backup ruckman.

Found this posted in Snoops draft.

FYI, was told today that Lions hope for WHE or Sumner at 8.

Kavanagh not on their radar at 12, which is hardly a surprise

Source was a mate who is part of the Lions' most exey coterie, so hardly rock solid insider, but there you go

I see it has similar to Trengove from Port who certainly dropped in most phantom drafts and had that same 'not quite a ruck, forward or defender' feel about him as is currently the case with Elton. Trengove probably turned out to be a steal for Port. Admittedly, Trengove also had injury issues which affected his draft rating.

The thing about Elton is that he is built to play modern footy. He's tall enough to be a pretty decent second ruck and is able to play at both ends of the ground. While I'm no expert, I really think that someone will pull the trigger earlier than what some of the phantom drafts are projecting.

In his comeback game against GWS he was more in and under than most when the ball came near him (he spent most of the game down back with stints through the middle). That's all I've seen of him, admittedly, so not much of a sample size.

Honestly I'd be surprised if the Lions knew anything. Last year was very Lions + GC, so I was expecting this year to be organized through GWS and Sydney. I suspect the Bombers didn't know much about invites last year, for example. Anyway I've sent a request, time to see if I get any response.
dlanod - pm me if you haven't got an invite and I will put you down as a guest.

By my count we have 36 listed players (including the elevated Golby) and 4 rookies (McKeever, Dyson, Harvey and the soon to be Newell) for a total of 40 players as of today.

Unless we delist a further player(s), would it be fair to assume we will use all 4 selections at the draft and have a primary list of 40 players?

Therefore, if we nominate 2 players outside the primary list, which subsequently reduces our rookie spots by 2, does that mean we are able to select (if we choose) a further 3 rookies this year for a total list of 47 (40 primary + 7 rookies)?

Writing up the first few picks for GWS and have it like this so far, 1 patton, 2 coniglio, 3 wingard, 4 tyson , 5 longer, 6 port? (WHE:() 7 Buntine. 8 US= ?

so....
FB ...... ....... Folau
HB Cornes Davis Buntine
C Palmer Ward Coniglio
HF..... Patton Wingard
FF..... ....... Power
R Longer Scully Tyson

Just a bit of mucking around but if port take WHE, who would we take?someone said kavanagh may not be on our list.I'd probaly go for greene?
I have my doubts about him but havent really followed him so i can't really say, whats his play like? does he attack or is he more defensive?

Folau is an absolutely certainty to line up in the forward line IMO. Started down back this year but was completely lost. As soon as he was moved forward, he showed form and genuine AFL potential - was kicking multiple goals every week.

Yeah, Folau to full forward. Giles or Brogan will be the starting ruck, I'd imagine. I think they'll play Cornes forward given they signed Davis and will take Mohr. I've got some time for Macdonald and think he'll play round 1 despite missing a season. There is also the group of players already there - Hampton, Treloar, Carey (or did he end up leaving?), Phillips, Shiel etc are all potentially more likely to play round 1 instead of most of the 2011 draftees, given they have a year in the system.

I am not so certain Port will take an outside player like WHE. They have plenty of speedy guys like that already, who can easily play in an outside midfield/HF/small forward kind of role.

They have more of a shortage of tough, workhorse, clearance & inside contested possession types - so they may be more likely to select a ball magnet like Greene or Tyson if he is still available.

Let's hope ;)

They did get Ebert who is far more inside than outside.

In talking to a couple of Port fans, they believe that they need skilled outside players with penetration. That is supported by the stats - Port are 6th in terms of contested possessions differential, 16th in uncontested possession differential. That indicates that they aren't running hard to make space and, when they do, they don't have the skills to get the ball to those players.

I think they need both, to be honest. They can afford to take the best available, knowing that they aren't flush with quality midfielders anyway.

Now this should make this year's top fifteen even more intriguing. Will someone other than The Eagles or the Dockers pull the trigger.

WA teenager Simon Tunbridge has walked out on a promising career with Greater Western Sydney just months away from the Giants' first AFL season.

The Dongara product quit the Giants after a protracted battle against homesickness for much of this year.

Tunbridge, who told his family of his decision to leave the club on Wednesday, is expected to be de-listed within days.

Tunbridge, now 18, was selected under pre-draft concession rules allowing GWS to snare a dozen of the country's best 17-year-olds born between January 1 and April 30 in 1993.

Can't see any club before Richmond taking him. We've got similar types already, Port will surely go a mid and GWS aren't likely to take him again.

I do wonder why he can nominate for the draft this year. He must have been on a two year deal. GWS must be being awfully understanding. I'd be minded to tell him to stick it out or spend a year out of footy.

Mitch wanted to be with his ill Grandma........ Believe nothing of what you hear and half of what you see.

True but a kid won't be getting a massive pay cheque to make him change his mind

Must admit Quigley's summation put me off WHE a bit.

My greatest interest is in attacking defenders. Buntine and Docherty sound great.

Lets face it, we have holes everywhere as long as we pick up a couple of guns I'll be happy, whether they are attacking defenders, inside/outside midfielders, small forwards, key position.
